Physically dragged out of the bar, and then my gf was punched in the face twice by the manager. Then he and multiple other men punched and kicked me, knocking one of my teeth out. At no point did we put hands on any of these people, but they thought attacking us was OK. We spent the night in the ER and both have head and neck injuries. Also punched a girl in her face twice busting her lip open horrible that this place allows men to beat up a woman“

“On August 16, 2024 my dear friend Eberta Wright celebrated her 103 birthday. We celebrated it at The Lazy Dog Restaurant in the Highlands were we used to go for lunch every Sunday after church. Our waiter was always Carlos. One Sunday he told me to let him know when she was to celebrate her next birthday because he wanted to do something special for her. I called him and told him it was here so he talked to his manager and WOW!!!!! Kyla, Alexa, Andrea and Carlos put together a spectacular birthday celebration. Mrs. Wright and I both were so surprised and delighted with what they did. The decorations, the gorgeous flowers the cupcakes that Kyla made and decorated to spell out her birth year. Everything was just wonderful. Carlos came in on his day off and got to have lunch with us. He is a very special young man. In fact everyone there is very special. The Lazy Dog will always be my number one restaurant not just because of the good food but because they are a group of very special people.“

Although I’m not typically a wine enthusiast, I was pleasantly surprised to find a refreshing German Gewurztraminer served cold, which paired well with the meal. As a vegetarian, I found the options a bit limited but decided to try the Caprese flatbread; it was decent, though not particularly memorable.

We've had the pleasure of being served by Anna a few times now and she does a great job. She is attentive and watchful, without being overbearing which is a difficult skill to master for a lot of servers. Aside from that, I love that it is a safe place for folks with food allergies and I feel very well taken care of in respect to that issue. I can tell that everyone from the hosts to the servers to the bartenders to the kitchen staff are very well trained in creating a safe and welcoming experience for each guest. “We were very disappointed with our "Student Run" dinner at Waterleaf. In the past the students who prepared the meals presented and explained their course while it was being served. There was no mention or description of any course at all. The wine pairings were read from a script. The chef instructor came out to thank the diners but did not once mention any of the students who cooked, served and poured wine. Waterleaf is not Student Run anymore, it is Instructor Run.“

“Greetings my Foodzies, tonight we decided to try a restaurant that we have passed by numerous times. The great escape on Irving at 9540 w Irving Park rd. in Schiller Park.
This is a unique restaurant that has been around for years. The property has a rich history (see the picture I have posted with the story).
The restaurant’s bar area is very rustic with a bar that was hand carved in 1889, very impressive. TVs have been added to draw in a people who want to eat and have a drink while watching TV. Also a gaming section in the bar area.
Music is old school 50-60s, our server Mareen was pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable.
We started with Grilled Calamari it was grilled nicely but could have used a few more seconds to get a little more char flavor. It was also missing the signature balsamic. Glenda chose the Rigatoni in Vodka sauce with chicken; the chicken was scarce and the sauce was not the traditional sauce it had an odd flavor, not terrible but not what we expected. With a cup of lentil soup, tasty but needed a little extra salt. I chose the baby back ribs and broasted chicken (these dishes they are known for) the chicken was very good, crispy skin and very juicy. The ribs were tender but a little dry. The BBQ sauce was the recipe is the recipe of the owner’s grandfather. It was a Kansas City type sweet sauce with a nice smoky flavor (as a first time patron we were given a bottle to take home). I had the baked French onion soup topped with mozzarella, I’m used to Gruyere, Swiss, or Gouda but ut was very good.

“Our server, Dee(?), was amazing! Great recommendations and she anticipated all of our needs. The food was top notch, as well. Started with the flaming cheese fondue served with fresh focaccia bread. Yum! I had the Surf and Turf and my husband had the Grouper. Both were perfectly prepared and the sides were delicious. Cocktails were fantastic and their Bourbon choices were great for an after dinner pour. We finished with their blueberry cheesecake and devoured every crumb! It was our Anniversary and they even poured us a toast! We will be back!“
