“I recently attended the Basil Hayden culinary tasting at the James B. Beam Distilling Company in Clermont, Kentucky, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment I stepped into the historic Baker Beam home, the warm hospitality and authentic atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable afternoon.
The Tasting
The experience began with a brief, engaging walkthrough of the distillery’s heritage, led by a knowledgeable member of the Beam family. We were then invited to sit at a beautifully set table where four carefully selected expressions of Basil Hayden—ranging from the smooth, lightly spiced original to the richer Dark Rye—were poured in precise, tasting‑size pours. Each pour was introduced with clear notes on barrel entry proof, aging, and bottling proof, allowing us to appreciate the subtle evolution of flavor across the lineup.
Food Pairings
What truly distinguished this experience was the thoughtfully curated small‑bite menu, designed to complement the bourbon’s profile. Every bite arrived promptly, allowing ample time to savor the bourbon before moving on to the next pairing. The chef also offered optional wine and non‑alcoholic pairings for those who wanted a broader palate experience.
Atmosphere & Service
The setting—an intimate, historic house surrounded by the rolling Kentucky hills—added a sense of authenticity that modern tasting rooms often lack. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, constantly checking that glasses remained at optimal temperature and that each guest felt comfortable exploring the flavors.
Overall Impression
The Basil Hayden culinary tasting is more than just a bourbon sampling; it’s a curated journey through flavor, history, and craftsmanship. Whether you’re a seasoned bourbon enthusiast or a curious newcomer, the experience offers a perfect blend of education, indulgence, and hospitality. I left feeling both enlightened about the nuances of Basil Hayden and delighted by the overall experience—a true testament to the Beam family’s dedication to quality and tradition.
Highly recommended for anyone seeking an immersive, flavorful, and memorable bourbon experience.“
“Somewhat off the beaten path, but the hospitality was well worth the drive. I stumbled across this winery on Harvest Host as since I was traveling thru the area, I decided to give it a try. When I first arrived, there were few people there, and the owner spent time explaining the history of the winery, the various grapes, and some wine making terms. Soon, the place was getting crowded with many patrons, and so I bought bottles of wine and headed to my RV. The owner was concerned about people parking close to me and stayed in touch via email while there to ensure I had a comfortable stay. My favorite wine was the Black and Blue Berry. Little food selection since they don't have a kitchen. The roads getting there were no different than any other place you go off the regular mainstream in hilly areas.“

“My husband and I decided last minute on a Friday night to try this place for the first time. They were busy as any place would be on a Friday night but were very efficient with their crowds. When we were sat, our server Rachael did a great job of taking care of us. I ordered the ribs and my husband got the ribeye. Both were DELICIOUS. We will definitely be back!“
“Best winery on our trip to Bardstown. We loved every wine we tried(sweet and dry), loved the peaceful atmosphere and the owners were amazing. If you miss this little gem, you are missing out! Will return again 100%“

“Best bar on the Bullitt and Jefferson county line bar none. A real deal sports bar and grill. Cornhole, huge TV's, live music, great food with generous portions and the best bartenders in the entire state of KY. This is the epitome of a good time. Highly recommend!“

“Very friendly, they don't speak Spanish so you have to read the menu carefully or use an app, although the person who served us was very friendly and helpful, the food was very good, but it's not something we do the same or cook much.“

“Best Chinese food. Always clean and the food is always good. Been eating here for many years. If anyone complains, that means there trying to get something for free. Or there trying to steer business else were. I read the bad comments and they are fat lies.“

“Absolutely the best calzone I’ve ever had. These things are massive! Two meals for sure and they are already priced very well.
I love the wall painting and the overall design. The place is big enough for work lunches and they seem to happen often which is good for them!
Service has been great the times I have been and will continue to go back.
Parking: Parking is on the sides of the building and is slightly annoying when it’s busy.“

“Absolutely one of the best meals I've had in years. We did the burnt end pizza, wings, and side of green beans. Don't skip the pizza and do order a side a green beans, the best I have ever had. Our server was Brooklyn, outstanding service.“
