“Decided to walk through Allston on a grody, misty afternoon and look for some food. Walked in by chance and at my SO’s insistence that we give it a look. I loved everything about the aesthetic, and enjoyed the soft music playing in the background. Being able to choose the ingredients I wanted - knowing they were organic and that they looked more than delicious raw...that was the absolute best part. The gentleman at the front was supremely helpful and answered any question thrown at him - by anyone in the shop. The price was more than worth the amount of food received, and the care extended to us as guests was wonderful. I absolutely would recommend anyone to give this a try. Don’t hesitate to ask a question, you will definitely get an answer. :)“

“Spontaneously chose place after my graduation. First time being here. Party of 10 and we all enjoy ourselves, and the food. Our servers were friendly and organized. Definitely a place reserved for celebrations, our bill was over $600.

Side note: if they had a buffet style, One Price all you can eat, it would be realistic to come here more often. I like a balance between quality and practicality. The quality was good, but not practical on a consistent basis due to the high (accumulative) prices. Everything is priced individualy and separately, including the broth. This can add up quickly. “Mala Restaurant is a well known Chinese restaurant serving mala dry pot and other spicy dishes near the Packard's Corner area of Allston.

The service is quick, there is smaller tables at the location so it may not be for larger parties, but take-out is an easy process and comes out quick.

We got the mala dry pot, squid skewer, and szechuan noodles. The szechuan noodles was packed to the brim, though all the oil sat at the bottom so mixing it within the container was not feasible, and it was dry on top without the mixing. The squid skewer was good, chewy with a nice flavor and seasoning. The mala dry pot stood out, not too spicy but can add more spice if needed. The portion sizes is good, with the small being in one container and large being in two. For the price, they give you a decent amount.“

“Came here with a group of friends while visiting Boston and this meal was truly the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Wow wow wow. We came in right before close but ordered a great variety to share between 6 people: dumplings, garlic green beans, a chive pocket, orange chicken, and these spicy beef noodles that were life changing. I wish we got two plates of the spicy beef noodle dish & considered coming back the next day for more before we left town!!“

One of the first things that stood out was how much cleaner the Boston market felt. Even during busy hours, the seating areas and food stalls were well maintained, with staff regularly clearing tables and keeping the space tidy. It made the whole experience more comfortable and less chaotic than what I remember from Lisbon. Pricing was another pleasant surprise. While food halls can sometimes feel overpriced in tourist-heavy cities, Boston’s Time Out Market felt noticeably more affordable. Portions were reasonable for the price. The variety of options was also a positive note. There was a strong mix of local favorites and creative concepts. It’s a good place to bring a group! The atmosphere was also better as there was a Red Sox game that evening so there was definitely excitement in the market combined with live music made it an exciting place to be. Overall, I’d give the Boston Time Out Market four stars. It’s cleaner, more budget-friendly, and offers a more versatile food selection compared to the Lisbon location!“

I was anticipating an amazing wagyu beef burger given the $35 price tag, but it was very ordinary and forgettable. It was cooked well-done even though I asked for medium-well, and it had absolutely no flavor, not even a hint of salt and pepper. The fries were dry and not very good either. But the corn bread was absolutely delightful and probably some of the best I’ve ever had, and the pita bread with hummus and pimento cheese was delicious, as well. Overall, about 4 stars considering the appetizers saved the day, as the wagyu burger was a flop.“

Also make sure you don't miss Tracy Chang's homemade nonalcoholic sparking teas - my favorites are the genmaicha and the hojicha - again I've never tasted a drink like this anywhere else. Pagu's dishes and drinks are across the board innovative but also welcoming and absolutely delicious!“
