“The fish soup was flavorful, and the portion size was generous. I also liked that you can do a half-and-half soup with both fish and beef if you want to try both.

There are plenty of side dishes to choose from, and the cucumber was refreshing. The sticky rice cake and the spicy sour noodles were just okay and didn't stand out compared to the soup.

The seating area is fairly small, so it's not the best choice for larger groups, though we had no trouble walking in without a reservation. The staff were friendly and efficient, making the whole experience smooth. I'd definitely come back for the fish soup.“

Really amazing and authentic taste- the flavors take me back noodle shops in China I’ve visited. A perfect balance of umami, sweet, numbing, salty and crunch of fresh cucumbers. As a gluten sensitive eater I also appreciated that all their noodle dishes use rice noodles.“

“I just finished reading VERA WONG'S UNSOLICITED ADVICE FOR MURDERERS, and all the food Vera makes had me Googling the best place for Chinese Buns, since I've never had any before and the food in the book made me so hungry! There aren't any places near me, so we drove 40 minutes out to Frederick to eat at THE UGLY DUMPLING, and it did not disappoint! The food was AMAZING! I got the UD Bun sampler to try all the different buns Vera makes in the novel, and my kids wanted the Chicken Stir Fry Noodles. My husband ordered Orange Chicken and Fried Rice with Chicken, and we also ordered some Spring Rolls. When I tell you it was more food than I expected, I mean our table was overflowing! I tried the Taro, Mushroom, BBQ, Custard, and Scallion Buns, and Scallion and Custard were my favorite--my 2 year old loved them, too! So soft, like a pillow, and delicious! We brought home enough food to eat again tomorrow, and I'm so excited for it! This was an amazing dining experience, and we're already planning our next excursion back! Highly recommend!“

I have gone here a few times and its always been delicious food, but especially today (Christmas Eve) I want to give a thanks to them because although the wait time was very long because they were over flooded with orders, it was absolutely worth the wait. “The lunch special is a great value (~$10 for an entree, rice, soup, and a spring roll). The orange chicken was great. You can tell the sauce is homemade because it was filled with real orange peel. The chilis also provided just the right amount of subtle heat. Definitely one of the better orange chicken dishes I’ve had!“

“A huge vegan/vegetarian menu! We had one of the best restaurant experiences, with so many delicious tapas and dim sum options- all you can eat!

Dorris was amazing! She helped us pick the best choices. We had authentic, home-cooked style Chinese food, while a few with a slight twist with newer ingredients that married beautifully together. Everything we tried hit all the right spots! The grandma noodles (at the other location, same as hand pulled chili oil noodle at this location)- absolute must try!

The best part was the feeling we got every time the servers brought food to our table. They were smiling and was proud to share those delicious dishes. It felt like we had gone to someone’s home and they were excited to share their food with us.“

“This place has the most authentic Shanghai food in DMV. Well if you argue it should be from your mom's kitchen then you win. I am just comparing this with Shanghai Taste and Bob66. (Shanghai lounge and Nanxiang has nothing to do with Shanghai food from my humble opinion.)
Back to the business. If you are fine with any dishes being sweet then I suggest give everything a try. Something you may find weird, but it is just how things are done in Shanghai. If you want something salty you can get Fuzhu 腐竹 or Moyu魔芋， both are nice cold dishes. But I still suggest Kaofu 烤麸, Lajiang 辣酱 and Ribs小排 even you don't have sweet teeth. Meatball 狮子头 are nice to try as well, and Shenjian生煎 is a must try - I served Shenjian to my parents who still live in Shanghai when they came and they gave a positive feedback.“

“The shrimp with broccli is really good, no need to add soy sauce at all! I always get it a lil spicy, it gives it a kick! The wings are really good too and not all hormone injected looking!🤣! They just need to make their mumbo sauce a lil thicker and flavorful, its a bit watery! Overall their food is on point! The fried rice is good as well!

“I have nothing but good things to say about Gourmet Asian Bistro (7224 Muncaster Mill Rd, Derwood, MD 20855). It offers Chinese, Thai, and sushi. I've eaten there 3 times in the past 2 weeks, and it's been excellent every time and affordable! The vegetable tofu soup ($2.95) is huge, satisfying, and full of veggies. The wonton soup ($2.95) has 3 good sized wontons. Both soups come with a bowl of tastier-than-average fried wonton strips on the side that I end up munching on during the entire meal. The sizzling black pepper beef ($16.95?) was tasty, but I was more impressed by the noodle dishes. The beef chow fun ($14.95?) and the Singapore mei fun ($13.95) were beautifully seasoned and cooked perfectly. I've also gotten the salmon nigiri ($5.95?) a couple times, and it's generously portioned and fresh with great quality salmon. Every meal ends with a complimentary tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream and fortune cookie. There are plenty of good Chinese restaurants in MoCo, but Gourmet Asian Bistro is my current favorite for best flavor and value.“

“When my family moved to this area over 15 years ago, this place was recommended to us. Still, after all this time, this is the only Chinese place in the area that I will order from, after sampling many in the area (Frederick/MoCo). They have the best hot and sour soup in the area. Actually flavorful. The cream cheese wontons are different, not as crispy as you would expect, but the flavor is great. veggies are always fresh and crunchy, never overcooked. Both the more traditional dishes and the Americanized dishes have great flavors. Food is always ready fast.“

“Super happy with their Walnut Shrimp dish! It is the dish that is easily made with too much sauce, but House of Fortune makes it wtih the perfect amount of sauce and broccoli that I'm craving for more! The broccoli is lightly cooked, is fresh, and has a light crunch. The walnuts are perfectly glazed and crunchy. I took a picture of the food after I already ate two bites!

I have tried Walnut Shrimp from the surrounding restaurants and I like House of Fortune's the best.

“The Dim Sum are tasty and staff are friendly. They have the traditional push carts going around which is nice since you can see and pick the one you like. They do have some speciality items that other dim sum restaurants do not have that I like to eat. There are few dim sum restaurants in the area but I do recommend to give them a try.“
