“I found this place one day as I was passing by and I bought three of their different pecan cookies. The next time I went in, I bought a bag of their small medium cookies. These are some of the best cookies I’ve ever had soft and chewy, There’s a butter taste that gets you in the beginning and a slight saltiness As you finish it off. I stopped by now every time I pass through PG County“

“I come here on a regular basis for there tortas which are delicious! Be sure to ask for it extra toasted with extra jalapeño (at no charge). It’s seams like they had a big issue with customer service in the past but nowadays The staff provides great customer service.“

“The music is fine and it plays to a level that allows conversation, there are seats outside for those who like to be al fresco early in the morning. I like the lighting and there is a combination of live plants and an artificial garland inside. I had the ube cake, croissants, the savory bun and they were great. I'm not a fan of donuts but friends rave about them. The coffee is excellent. If you eat in place they serve the pastries on China plates. Do you have a sweet tooth ? Try the vietnamese coffee. Black coffee is your choice - drip, expresso iced and hot are fine and mellow. There is an interesting choice of teas too. When it comes to the banana cinnamon cookie, not so great, took a bite and the prevalent taste was baking soda. Nice touch to combine salt and sweet on the cookie but the baking soda ruins everything. Tried the cookie at the other end and it had no cinnamon flavor. Stick to pastries and you will be safe. Should have got the hojicha roll not the cinnamon cookie but this will be for next time.“

“No other bakery like Seylou. We travel in to the city every weekend to eat here. The staff is so kind and feels like an extension of our family. They’ve taken my child behind the scenes and shown him how grains are killed and bread is baked. I could not ask for a better community and diet staple.“

“Huge cookie! And they are delicious. I couldn't eat one in a sitting but it was nice to get essentially two cookies for one. The cookies were really good nailing the texture, and sweetness. My oatmeal raisin cookie had the perfect reason to cookie ratio, I can tell they spent time in the lab on that one. If you're walking M street after a good meal this is a place that I'd recommend stopping into for a nice dessert.“

“Bread Alley is a handy bakery for picking up fresh bread and a pastry or two. I went in during the morning and tried a savory pastry along with one of their breads. The pastry had a flaky exterior and a good amount of filling, while the bread had a crisp crust and soft center. The selection was varied enough to find something for breakfast or to take home.“

“Got the breakfast plate (forgot the name already, sorry) with biscuit, eggs, meat choice (I got thick cut bacon) and 2 hash browns. Damn was that good. I normally don't love thick cut bacon so thick that it's chewy, but it was like pork belly consistency, and damn good. Hash browns were nice and crispy and golden brown, eggs were cooked perfectly, biscuit was delicious with some of their honey butter and blueberry preserves. And the cashier/server who took our order, she was great and super helpful. (Sorry I didn't get a name, I'm doing great on memory today lol) Will definitely be stopping by again here soon.“

“I can't believe that I have lived here for nearly 20 years, walked past this place many times, and just discovered it several weeks ago. WOW! The pastries and, cakes, muffins and croissants are excellent. Their homemade jams are wonderful. Their breads, quite yummy! I love their iced coffee , which has s a very subtle taste of cocoa. And, I am a very picky coffee snob. Service is sometimes a little chaotic, but the staff is super friendly. Weekend mornings are insanely busy- a reflection of how good they are. Amazing, spacious outdoor seating! LOVE this place.“

“Ordered on Uber Eats: the portion said for 2 but easily fed 3 of us for 2 days. The injera was good, sour, and soft. I wish they would have labeled what the items were the top 4 were veggie options: cheese of some kind, a salad, lentils (the seasoning on this WOW) cabbage and spinach. The bottom three contained meat, a collard green and maybe lamb? Doro Wat, and an oxtail / lamb dish? Overall really good, would go in person to try individual things. I wasn’t a fan of the cheese it had no flavor, the cabbage and spinach was missing something - usually i enjoy them at a different place; and the collard greens/lamb weren’t my favorite either due to the acidity in the greens but i enjoyed trying new Ethiopian dishes.“

“Sylvan Cafe has a quiet and quaint atmosphere with lovely jazz playing in the background. The staff is very kind and lovely and the food comes out fast.

The food is amazing and I mean really good for the price. 17 dollars for a veggie platter, is an amazing deal and the quality is out of this world it tastes delicious. Would recommend for anyone passing by in the neighborhood to stop by and support this small business.“

“What a beautiful cafe. The West End location sits on a corner with huge glass windows that flood the space with natural light, lovely decor, and an open glass kitchen that adds to the atmosphere. It is also a very comfortable place to sit with a laptop and get some work done.

The menu has a strong Middle Eastern influence, which immediately caught my attention. I started with the House Latte, flavored with honey halva and cardamom. I could pick up that sesame/tahini-like note and was initially worried it might be loaded with sweet syrup, but thankfully it was not.

The lamb shakshuka, though, was on another level. The tomato sauce reminded me of an exceptionally good Jordanian gallayat banadura: rich, deeply tomatoey and beautifully seasoned. The lamb, dollops of spicy labneh and whole parsley leaves each brought something different without fighting for attention.

Then you cut into one of those perfectly cooked eggs and the bright, runny yolk spills into the tomato sauce, making it even richer. Dip a piece of their soft, perfectly toasted bread into that mixture and it is difficult to stop. My only complaint: please give us more bread!

This is one of those dishes where every element seems to have been thought through. Creative, balanced cooking without trying too hard. Easily one of the best breakfasts I have had in DC.“

“Rolling Sloane did an amazing job on my daughter’s mermaid birthday cake!! She did a beautiful purple, pink and blue glitter frosting with adorable sugar cookie shells around the side and a mermaid tail sugar cookie for the top. It was exactly what my daughter wanted! On top of that, the cake was so good and we all fought over the last piece! Highly recommend a cake from Rolling Sloane!“

The offering has something for everyone- and it is a great way to introduce those who may be unfamiliar with Turkish fare.“
