“Adorable little bakery tucked into an alleyway in Union Market. They're in the middle of the alley and impossible to spot (unless, as there often is, there's a line out the door), so it can feel a little sketchy to walk aimlessly through a random alleyway, but Bread Alley makes the walk super cute with a lovely string of arrows pointing you to their gorgeous black brick and wooden storefront.

They don't have a full-time cashier, so if you get to Bread Alley during one of their off-peak hours, you have to knock or ring the bell and wait for one of their bakers to come open the door for you. Once they do, you'll be welcomed into a cozy little shopping area with just a cash register, small pastry case (which just includes a few exemplary pastries -- the rest are in the back), and a wall of various types of bread. I didn't end up grabbing one of their breads, but I'll definitely have to make my way back for them; the harissa black sesame sourdough looked incredibly enticing, but I just, unfortunately, didn't have a need for a full loaf of bread at the time. However, I was in the mood for a sweet treat and decided to get a classic pain au chocolat. They don't have an indoor seating space, given their relatively barebones front-end, so I just ate my croissant as I walked home. It was a beautiful croissant, with a gorgeous lamination inside and nice glossy finish. It was a smidge too doughy for my taste, as I generally prefer really light and airy croissants, but it was still delicious.“

“No other bakery like Seylou. We travel in to the city every weekend to eat here. The staff is so kind and feels like an extension of our family. They’ve taken my child behind the scenes and shown him how grains are killed and bread is baked. I could not ask for a better community and diet staple.“

“I went to purchase a birthday cake for my daughter and I noticed how delicious the cookies looked. I also read on all the reviews how amazing their cookies are especially the snicker doodle. Alejandra who was simply a sweetheart, helped make suggestions/recommendations and she was so pleasant and helpful. I was so impressed with the customer service and the quality of the baked goods. I give them a 5 star if not 10! They are all very sweet and the cake and cookies are just amazing. I was very a very happy customer!“

“Came here for coffee and breakfast. I ordered bacon and eggs, wife ordered a croissant sandwich. Hers was better than mine. The small hash brown patties came soggy and almost undercooked. The eggs were fried nicely. The toast was supposed to be sourdough, but it was more like a thick cut of white bread and under toasted, probably because it's so thick. Bacon was nice. I had a cappuccino and it was acceptable, but not good enough to finish. This is a really clean, nice, professional coffee shop with a lot of working professionals stopping by. “First visit, and the experience was mixed:

- Atmosphere: great, location is very convenient, suitable for working on a laptop, reading, small gatherings, etc.

- Food: very good

- Coffee: asked for it a certain way, but the barista who handled my request decided to not listen and make it the way they think it should be made, despite me notifying them twice.

There were two emplyees:
- A young man who was professional and warm in handling customer requests and responding to different incidents, which was very appreciated.
This is a five star review because of him.

- Another young person who needs more training on listening and delivering customer requests.
I tried to gently give them feedback on how they handled my order, but I was met with an “I don’t care about how you want your coffee, I follow the lines, take it or leave it” attitude, which was very cold even though they used polite words, low tone and gave a meaningless “have a good day” at the end.

“This bakery is located in the historic Eastern market on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC. My favorite thing is the molasses ginger cookie, with no icing and I like them gooey in the middle. I asked for them that way and I get them that way. Their snickerdoodles are also good and they have a nice selection of breads. Not everything is baked on premise. The owner and the other workers are all very nice people.

Parking: They are very busy on the weekends. The whole market and parking gets more difficult but come on Tuesday through Friday and you'll have your pic of parking spaces. Everything is almost everything is metered.

I went there to get Bolillos, there was a family who had taken all, about 20 pieces, when the fresh got out, they return all the bread they already had to get a fresh bread (thats what they said) they asked an employee if they can change it and the employee said: if you want. That is a nasty thing to do because they had already manipulated the bread and now someone else will take that bread. The owner should educate the employees that no bread should be returned once a customer already touch it. Other than that I recommend this place but that was a very unsafe ans unhealthy thing to do.“
