The only unfair reason for the 4 star atmosphere is because yesterday's breakfast overlooked the harbor in Bar Harbor. At The Hoot, we watched the parking area, but it was a glorious morning with beautiful fall foliage. It's as nice as it can be, but it's not Acadia National Park. Of course, if you won't be in bar Harbor then the Hoot merits as good a rating as anyplace in Belfast or Northport”

“Extraordinary and unlike any other restaurant in Maine. We found the establishment on our Michelin Guide portal, pretty much the only place recommended by Michelin in Maine. “French influenced restaurant with a large, heated overflow tent. There Is good but abbreviated wine list. This is not a full service restaurant; table service was good. The Shrimp Dumplings are very good, just crisp on one side. The Shrimp and Grits are slightly spicy, the andouille was a little chewy. The shrimp Linguine has a lot of textures and flavors and was perfectly prepared.”

“I might be too much of a traditionalist but...I had my mouth all set for red flannel hash, was really looking forward to the sweetness that only beets can provide...and unfortunately they used pickled beets :( The description said "beet slaw", so I had anticipated thinner slivers to be in the equation, - but not vinegar. So close to perfection! (sigh). Maybe next time they'll go "old school".”

“This review is short and sweet. It’s a five. Go there and eat.

Ok. Don’t roll up on this place and roll your eyes and leave. That haddock sandwich is something to write about. I snagged that baguette the second the baker put it on the shelf. Still warm! The tartar sauce is scratch made and delicious. Skip the fries and get the onion rings. Slaw is yummy.

In the cooler are some fresh made sandwiches. The sandwich bread is perfection and they are made fresh. I loved the egg salad. My husband had chicken salad and said it was very good.

Grab some seafood from the market on your way out to take home.

“We stopped down at the harbor for a snack on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Harbor Dogs is a tiny little stand, but they do a lot more than hot dogs! After a bit of deliberation we walked away with a million tons of food. Poutine! Asian fish tacos! Chili cheese dogs! Lobster rolls! Everything was delicious and those guys at the window? Top notch chefs. Get down to this unassuming shack and get yourself some amazing lunch.”
