“Went to FrameBar yesterday for the BirriaBar pop-up with chef Eddie Vargas. Food was excellent and a great value for the amount of food at the price point. I loved that the chef was making the rounds in the dining room to ensure every customer was satisfied. The birria platter and quesabirria were both great, as well as the salsas, queso, and aguacates. Lastly, the bar had good Mexican-inspired drink options, with the smoked Oaxacan old fashioned being my favorite for both taste and presentation. Great work all around.“

“Tried this place for the first time today! Rider was my server and he was absolutely amazing. Knowledgeable funny and sweet. Genuinely had such a good time just being in his presence and he was very attentive! Tried the flaming fig, although without the jam. Didn't personally find it too spicy without the jam, although my friend found it slightly spicy with the jam. Either way it was the most delicious grilled cheese ever. Great wine selection, and don't be afraid to try the espresso drink made with blood orange soda, it was very good! On the store side of things, there was a great selection of product and the service was great. Will definitely tell as many people as possible about this place and will come again!“

“Ladder 4 had a great atmosphere, it was warm, not too loud and clean. Loved the old historical firehouse, I believe they said 100 years old. Started out with a glass of champagne and Alison, the bartender, was amazing and so kind, she also helped us pair some delicious wines with our entrees. We had Chelsea as our server and she was so nice and big smile. Now the food, was DELICIOUS! I don’t think I’ve ever had duck that tasted so moist and almost steak like. The trout was so buttery and soft and we were surprised with the endive and jamon appetizer, mouth watering. Overall great experience and definitely planning on coming back. We did take the bosque cheesecake home and had it the next day and it was very good!“

“The Royce is a wine bar with an absolutely fantastic vibe. Their menu is easy to understand as it goes from top to bottom light to heavier. Im a tannin based wine drinker so the deeper and richer the better. This spot also has light bites, great decor and plays Disco. The kind and welcoming Joe from NYC was fun and taught us the menu effortlessly as we are always doing ‘research’ with our wines. Bobby knows everything to do to make your time here in Detroit fancy and fantastic. Thank you Joe and Bobby for making us feel like locals. We will be back and looking forward to trying more of your wine selection.“

We're Sipper Club members and it's worth joining - special pricing, special events and early notification of our favorite wines from wineries throughout Michigan. Snacks are available to purchase, but we sometimes take our own meat, cheese and fruit tray with us to enjoy there with our wine. It's a great place to meet up with friends too.“

“Wow. What an absolutely fantastic final dinner of 2023! After we managed to find a late dinner reservation for New Year's Eve, it was a relief to discover that our excitement about the tasting menu was well-placed. I would definitely recommend the drink pairings as well! The amuse-bouche featuring oysters from the West and East coasts was a delightful way to splash into the meal. The wasabi and the mangosteen featured in each of the oysters, respectively, complimented the beautiful brine of the oysters in such a wonderfully playful way. This first tasting urged us to pause the menu progression and order an extra dozen oysters to explore the other possibilities. Tasting from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island, they were beautifully prepared and of excellent quality. The first course of lobster salad felt like a summer in Maine. Not that I've ever been to Maine, but the imaginary scene flashed across my vision as I took that first refreshing bite. The grapefruit emulsion worked almost majestically with the light, refreshing flavor of the lobster salad. The tapioca chip was perfect for the crunch to fully bring the different elements of the dish together. A fascinating intersection of refreshment and comfort. The second course was the potato pavé. I'll be thinking of this potato often for the foreseeable future. It was one of those dishes that makes your eyes pop open a bit when you bite it as you realize how good it is. A beautifully layered and seared rectangle of flaky delicious potato resting with a lovely salsa brava speckled with trout roe, topped with tarragon, cured trout, and black truffle flakes. I don't even know what else to say. It was stunning. Sea urchin buttered ramen, the third course, will always be what I wish my at-home thrown-together ramen could be. It was rich, it was luscious, it was comforting. Growing up in southeast Texas, crawfish boils were always some of the most exciting times of the year. The crawfish tails in the ramen brought me back to those summer days eating crawfish with a cold beer. The duck breast for the fourth course was exceptionally cooked. It was juicy and flavorful and made a perfect bite with a bit of cauliflower, raisins, apricot, agrodolce, and foie-sauce. Each bite was such a symphony of flavor that kept me coming back. Last but absolutely not least was the gâteau ardéchois: the chestnut cream cake. Accompanied by cranberry coulis and crispy meringue bites, this dessert was a sweet but still mellow finish. While the coffee mascarpone ice cream was a robust and complementary flavor, we both agreed the vanilla coconut ice cream was the star between the two. Thank you again to the stellar crew at Mink! For example, MCW had Georgian wine, very few people know how good it is. I can't recall how much I spent, but the flavor was brilliant. I prefer MCW for wine by a parsec rather than a grocery store.“

“Went here for our 11th anniversary. Was recommended here many times. We had the tableside tomahawk for 2. Sliced by the tableside by the manager and plated as well tableside. When i tell you, this steak was absolutely PHENOMENAL! Seared to perfection, excellently cooked, and very conservatively seasoned to bring out of every flavor of the steak. The house salad and dressing is unlike any around, leaving you wanting more. Our waiter (Joe) i believe was absolutely stunning. He caters like no other, but also lets you enjoy your meal, without interupting and still servicing. If i could rate higher, i absolutely would. I will DEFINITELY be back here. “Absolutely delicious and elegant food- worth every penny in my opinion. Loved the beet salad -chock full of golden yellow beets and dressed in a delicious and flavorful vinaigrette. I ordered the Vineyard chicken as my entree- delicious and moist chicken breast with a delicious smashed potato and cippolini onions, mushrooms and ca to go along with it, swimming in a velvety sauce. Loved and finished every last bite, it was that good! I haven't been able to say that about any nicer meal I've had lately. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be going back in the future. “I visited this past Valentine’s Day weekend and visited again this past Saturday night. I didn’t have a reservation but still got seated very quickly. It was a hot, muggy night and the hostess said she had a seat on the patio which I was fine with. I had a magnificent server, Florence, who was kind, thoughtful to recommend a drink to the person I was with and even when our drinks were brought out within a short time, apologized for the delay (which wasn’t necessary). I wish I could give a review on the party next to us because they were extremely rude, not only not giving consideration to others being on the patio but were also incredibly rude to Florence. One woman in particular was grandstanding in front of this group and demanded to speak to a manager. Florence and the Manager were both composed and dignified in spite of a rude patron that was looking to get her bill comped (for a party of nearly a dozen people) going so far as to threatening to have everyone at her table write a terrible review. I have worked in the service industry and so have so many people I know and love so this situation had me worked up and I felt it necessary to write a review that our experience was magnificent. Don’t be an a-hole to servers of any kind just because you’re an a-hole yourself. If you give respect, you get respect. Go to The Sugar House. Be a good customer.“

“Yes, but - the order and pay by phone ruins the overall experience of Mudgies. Can’t ask an app about the menu. Spent 10 minutes looking on the interface to order an ice tea. Figured it was my lack of finding the menu. Had to flag someone down to learn they were out of ice tea. All those things a server would tell you. But alas you don’t get. So good food, crappy experience! Lower your expectations, taking on the McDonald’s approach, sad really. Oh and if you want an item on the side they charge extra for that?! And with this order system no one asked me how my lunch was- or if I needed anything. So my sandwich was cold and sat awhile before it was quickly dropped at my table. I am so bummed - loved this place. The good news is there are now a ton of amazing options for lunch in Corktown. I recommend tipping much less because you are really on your own.“
