“This is a family owned resturant in Highland Park. The food is fresh and made to order. The service is welcoming and feeling your being serviced by a member of your family. There is no indoor seating but when the weather is nice the small outdoor seating space is very nice. Highly Recommend. 😀“

“Had a taste for Soul Food. I was traveling 75N through Detroit and wanted to find an authentic place right off the interstate. When I got my food and had a side of hot sauce that I didn't specifically request, I knew this was the real deal. Took me 10 minutes to get there off of the interstate. Most people probably place their order online and pickup because there is no in person dining. Option 2, which is what I did, is to walk up to the window and order. My food took about 20 minutes to get ready. I ordered 2 plates. Each plate comes with 2 sides. The serving size is large so you definitely get your money's worth. I'm from the South. The food reminded me of home. Altogether between both plates I tried fried porkchops, meatloaf smothered in gravy, collard greens, yams, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. I will definitely stop here again.“

“As soon as I got out of my car, the smell of delicious food assaulted my nose. I was hoping the food was as good as it smelled. I was not disappointed. Even though the food was basic, everything was seasoned just right & that made the difference. The jerk wings were not jerk to me, but had a nice smokey flavor. The mac & cheese did not look that great & I wish it had been baked longer, but was still tasteful. I prefer fresh green beans these days, but theirs was the old school kind with potatoes & again, seasoned just right. The cornbread was sweet if you like a Jiffy box flavor. The wait time was a standard 15 minutes. The decor is very old & outdated, but there are a few tables if you'd like to eat inside or wait for your food. I drove over 30 minutes to try their food and If I'm ever in the area again, I'd return.“

“Yall I literally love this place! This is one of the spots that I gate-Keep because I really don’t want a lot of people knowing about this place, not even my siblings. The workers are always nice and the food is good and Great prices! they have soul food and pizza and it doesn’t taste extremely unhealthy like these other chain fast food places. I just got some food from them on Monday and I’m going back again today 😂 As a Detroit native if you haven’t had this place, I HIGHLY suggest eating here!“

“My first time here and I am hooked!

I tried the beef rib slab dinner that comes with two large sides (macaroni and yams) and two whole wings that did not make the pictures since they were devoured in the car! (I paid for one and got two, what a pleasant surprise!) I had to try the dessert, so I bought a large peach cobbler. ( I was also gifted the fried biscuits that were a 10/10).

Nita R hooked me up and really went above and beyond and made sure I would be back. Make sure you take care of her! $$$

“For a soul food restaurant the food was very close to homemade.The collard green were good.The bathroom left a lot to be desired. It was very nasty.The floors were sticky even in the bathroom. Overall the food was good and I would go back again.“

“I went to Velle's Grille yesterday for dinner in the hope of supporting a black owned business. I have no regrets. I had the Turkey Chops with Mac & cheese, collard greens and a side of yams. Good portion sizes. Everything was hot and seasoned perfectly. My meal was delicious. My husband had chicken wings with baked beans and macaroni. He also ordered a burger. He says the burger was delicious and the sides were on point. He woke up and ate the chicken for breakfast and he says we gotta go back lol. Overall we are definitely giving this place another chance.“

“We loved it. The server was wonderful. The food was delicious and the presentation was nice. I did not like the greens, but everything else was a hit. The bread was made to perfection.
We lucked out and did not have to wait long, but I recommend calling ahead because tables are limited. Also, a 20 % gratuity is automatically added. Would definitely return.“

Walking in you notice how delicious everything smells, how clean everything is and how friendly everyone who works here is. The food is top notch. The breadding on the catfish fritters made my mouth water, the greens made me want to write home, the mac and cheese was perfectly cooked and the meatloaf was so tender and tasty. Then the dessert! Peach cobbler that made me make obscene noises, the creamy vanilla scoop and the amazing red pop sorbet were bursting with flavorful perfection. I highly recommend going here and trying everything.“

“First time at the restaurant on a busy Sunday. The food did not disappoint and either did the service. Stacie our waitress was attentive and on point. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We had everything from fried catfish, meatloaf, short ribs, BBQ ribs, fried pork chop and chicken and waffle along with a variety of sides and beverages. I even got a ToGo of the short ribs because they were so tender (a little fatty but tender still). We were a party of 9 and they seated us with no problem. “husband dont eat pork beef as of 25 yrs. He recently stopped chicken and will only eat turkey. ive made so many turkey dishes the last few months since him stopping chicken and i know hes getting bored. We decided to give Gingerberry a chance since we only had it once years ago. OMG! soooooo delicious! We ordered the turkey chops, got 3 large chop, a nice large scoop of mac and cheese and mash potatoes. Weve been dragging about it all wkend.
