“Seen a flyer for Soul food Saturday and I just had to try it. Ordered the catfish dinner and it comes with two sides (I got Max & cheese and dressing). Also, I ordered banana pudding and caramel cake for dessert. The catfish was seasoned well and moist; the dressing was moist as well and had a lot of flavor and the mac&cheese was good as well....lots of flavor with all the different cheeses and very cheesy The caramel cake was awesome the cake was really moist and spongy and the caramel sauce was fire ! The banana pudding was great as well and the serving sizes were just right. The entire meal was amazing and will definitely go there again to try another meal. The owner is very nice and personable and cares very much about the food she cooks. She cooks to order so the wait time may be a few minutes, but getting fresh food is always worth the wait. The restaurant is clean and has plenty of seating. Overall, it was a pleasant experience“

“First off I would like to say that Principle is and has been our go-to restaurant in Kalamazoo since we moved here 8 years ago. We are always pleased with the unique menus, service and quality of food and drinks. The prices are reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food. Last night was a slightly different story. Our server, Alex, was great and attentive to our needs. When the drinks took an excessively long time to be delivered, she not only corrected the order for how my husband prefers his Manhattan, but she also took the charge for the appetizer off our bill without us asking. Kudos to her, and honestly we weren't that worried about it, the bartenders were clearly busy. However, the entree my husband ordered was AWFUL. He got the Butternut Ravioli which was described as served with kale, mushrooms and sage. What came out was ravioli that tasted like pure brown sugar. It was sweeter than many desserts, and I'm not sure how that qualifies as an entree, especially when brown sugar was not mentioned on the menu. It was a big bummer, because it looked delicious, and if it had savory, I'm sure it would have been. The menu either needs to indicate that it is a VERY sweet entree or have brown sugar listed as a first ingredient. Again, Alex took care of it with the bill and also said she would be sure to let other patrons know when they ordered it. My scallops were wonderful. We will be back, but thought it was worth mentioning that this particular menu item does not fit with the rest.“

“Stopped in today before work to try their new Italian beef sandwich and it almost brought me to tears. The meat was perfectly seasoned, juicy and tender. The bread held up beautifully even after being dipped in that succulent au jus. By far the best Italian beef in town, and I'm a portillos stan. So glad I don't have to drive an hour away for good Italian beef anymore, thank you Monty!!!! ???“

“If it weren't for the greeter acting astonished that I walked in there on a Wednesday evening, I would give this spot 5 stars. The waiter was great and the food was extremely tasty and well presented. We had the brick oven chicken and the salmon and the flavors were excellent! The chicken was tender! The dessert was okay and I wonder if we should have tried something else. Overall, it was a great meal and I will return.“

“Very good food sandwiches, burgers, real fresh fried French fries, potatoe chips, cheese curds. very interesting building and layout of the bar. Wide selection of beers on tap, the prices of drinks fluctuate after 8pm. I googled the buildings history while waiting for dinner. It turns out the building used to be a Gibson Guitar factory and warehouse.“

Café '36 American • $$

“Had a superb first meal at Cafe 36 this weekend. Had heard of it, but never been. It was eVerything we hoped for. Food was superb: from our appetizer (roasted cauliflower in a chili pepper sauce), to the entrees: beef stroganoff for my companion, (a creamy, delicious take on an old favorite comfort food), and the whitefish special for me (superbly cooked, tender, with a crispy sear, on a bed of corn and mushroom; a bright dish, with a hint of lemon in the sauce; really, really good.) Cocktails were very good, and the desserts were perfect. Really nice meal, and delighted by the intimate restaurant. In short, an impressive meal all around: our first visit, but it won't be the last.“

“Don't sleep on this place. I know it shows 4 stars, but we can not do half stars. It was a solid 4.5. The food was delicious. My wife had the steak, and she said it was the best one she had all year. The wings were excellent as well. The only issue was asking to omit something and still getting it on the plate. So that was the ding to service. The place had a great vibe as well. We will be coming back.“

“The food here is phenomenal. Their waffle selection is insanely good. Their freshly milled oatmeal is also the best oatmeal I've ever had. The biggest drawback is the service. The service can be super hit and miss, so be prepared. The food is so good that the service struggles aren't a big deal. This restaurant is definitely worth checking out.“

“I contacted them via Facebook messenger twice in August (month before my event) to order 30 cake pops. The first time I was told someone would reach out to me with pricing and details. The second time they responded right away saying they would look into it. I called a few days ago to follow-up as my event is now in a few days. I was not provided a definitive answer - just that she would pass my info along and hoped someone would get back to me. I never heard back from them. I was trying to order cake pops for an engagement party. I realize I could have gone to the actual store to order, or just ordered somewhere else. But I have read all of the reviews (great ones!) and I heard they have amazing desserts. I don’t doubt that. Just disappointed.- I am changing my review as this was resolved and the business followed up with me after I posted it. I obtained my cake pop order on the short notice from them. Thank you for making the order for me and putting such detail into the cake pops. They turned out beautifully.“
