“We had an engagement party held at Clayton Winehouse. The space was perfect! They were easy to work with, and the best part was we could bring in our own food. We had many dietary restrictions with guests and were able to accommodate them since we had food made specifically for them. The bartender was on point all evening!! When we got there, none of the decorations were working out and the bar tender fixed them all. She was truly amazing and made the stress disappear. At the end of the event, I look over and she had things packed up. She was fabulous and had a great personality. I highly recommend Clayton Winebar for your social gatherings and I hope we have a reason to use them in the future. Oh, and the wine….mmmmm!“

Wine & Food, service, atmosphere are all outstanding at this hidden gem in St. Louis.

First, as a wine bar this place excels. The owner seems to have a particular gift for finding unique, superior quality, yet affordable wines. Everything I’ve tried here has been not only excellent but also a fantastic value. A bonus is the often changing selection, providing return customers with a fresh palette of offerings.

Second, the service is unparalleled. The staff know their wine, know their offerings, and can happily point you to something fitting to your tastes. They’re happy to provide a sample to make sure you’re happy. Besides being knowledgeable and helpful, the staff is professional, yet charming and engaging.

Third, the atmosphere is comforting. In colder months the wood burning stove lends a charm that can be found no where else in St. Louis. The bar is a great place to meet new friends or catch up with old ones, while the side room with couches and table, and the small wine shop attached, are nice spots to gain a little quiet privacy. If that’s not enough, the outside garden in the back is great outside option.

Fourth, the food. So it’s a wine bar primarily. Or is it? The food here seems almost an afterthought but is so good. Everything I’ve tasted here (Goat Cheese Tart, Poutine, Crostini, BLAT, Meatballs) have been as good as anything you can find anywhere in the city. The pasta special rivals anything you can find on The Hill. The food should not be overlooked.

Come for the wine, or the service, or the atmosphere, but stay for the food.“

“Our waitress was absolutely amazing, but unfortunately, our experience with the hostess was incredibly off-putting due to her passive-aggressive attitude and the unnecessary confusion surrounding the complimentary wine tasting.
When we first asked about being seated upstairs, we were essentially told that there was no seating available up there. We then clarified that we were interested in doing the complimentary wine tasting and were told that we would still need to be seated to participate. We accepted this, but asked to be added to the waitlist for a table upstairs near the wine tasting. We were told the wait would be approximately an hour, which was completely fine with us since we planned to stay and continue drinking regardless.
However, the hostess then began explaining that we would be waiting for a table with a party whose entire group hadn't even arrived yet, and that she would put us down for at least an hour and 20 minutes, which she described as “being generous.” Her tone and delivery made it very apparent that she was annoyed by our request and didn't particularly want to accommodate us. We gave her our phone number and continued enjoying our time there.
After two hours, part of our group had left, so we asked our waitress whether we could potentially split into smaller groups to make seating easier. That's when our waitress informed us that we didn't need a table at all to participate in the wine tasting and could simply go upstairs. We explained that the hostess had explicitly told us otherwise. Our waitress apologized and offered to keep an eye on our table while we went upstairs to participate.
Thanks to our waitress, we just barely made it to the final complimentary wine tasting of the day! Even on our way upstairs, the hostess stopped some of our group to question what we were doing.
I'm genuinely not sure what the hostess gained from making the experience so unnecessarily difficult or why we were given incorrect information in the first place. Had we not spoken to our waitress, we would have missed the wine tasting entirely because we were told we couldn't participate without being seated.
Thankfully, our waitress was an absolute angel and completely turned the situation around. She was kind, helpful, and accommodating, and the woman conducting the wine tasting was wonderful as well. In fact, thanks to their hospitality, she ended up selling us several glasses and bottles of wine!
The waitress and wine-tasting staff (Ava and Denise) deserve recognition for their excellent service. The hostess, however, could benefit from a serious lesson in hospitality and customer service. It's unfortunate that one person's attitude created such an unnecessary frustration when the rest of the staff made the experience enjoyable.“

“I think the atmosphere and wine itself is great, but this facility is SUPER deceiving. I came with a larger group, but when I checked out, the tip being shown seemed low, but the server does not inform you that’s because they’re already adding a 22% tip on your receipt. It is a digital checkout, so they just show you the total, no physical receipt of the purchase breakout. I also received an extra crostini for the app I ordered and without being told, I was charged for this extra bread. If they were upfront about the fees, it would be different, but they aren’t. Incredibly disappointing to try and support a local company that’s stealing during this current economic state.“

“Ok, here’s the thing… I love food. And when I say I love food, you might think I’m a huge person or a food critic or a chef or just a dramatic fan. Well, I am actually an artist, and I… I can tell you in no uncertain terms, that the food we received was *high art.* I don’t mean the kind of pretentious high art food that is served in tiny portions and so beautiful that you almost don’t want to eat it. I mean that it was masterfully created—flavorful, textured to perfection, filling, and lamentable *only* in that I wish I’d had room for more. We started with the stuffed mushroom appetizer—which I’ll admit is not usually my favorite, but my wife generally loves—served upon a sprinkle of arugula and a slashed drizzle of balsamic glaze. Imma tell ya… I like stuffed mushrooms now. My wife ordered an entrée of eggplant Parmesan—one that she doesn’t care to make often for herself only because (and I’m quoting), “It’s a pain in the a$$ to cook.” I ordered linguine Pomodoro with added shrimp and had the steamed mussels appetizer served with my entrée, so that I could add them in (as I *do* love a tutto mare). Since my wife’s entrée was one of her favorites, and I don’t generally care for it, I left her to it, concentrating on my own. I shucked all the mussels and strained their accompanying shallots and bacon into my linguine leaving the garlic and cilantro pesto behind for bread dipping. OH [*clap*clap*clap*]—I forgot to mention the bread. They served a fantastic mini loaf of the softest bread topped with caramelized onions alongside fresh grated Parmesan in olive oil. Upon our finishing it off, I asked for a second helping. Back to the entrée… My first actual bite was of the mussels, and that bite was fantastic. Then I had one of the shrimp… and… here’s the thing… I am a poet, and I also write children’s books, so when I tell you that I simply do not have a superlative sufficient to describe the shrimp, you know I’m being serious. It was warm, seasoned, and snappy as shrimp should be, but it gave me pause—as Anton Ego in Ratatouille. * First, doubt—that I had experienced something so specifically wonderful before * Then, a quick scan from childhood to now for confirmation * And lastly, the comfort that can only come from those happiest memories of childhood—Christmas mornings on receiving more than you could ever have hoped for, Halloween nights’ preparations for what giggles and terrors were to come, and burrito-you ensconced in soft blankets straight from the dryer Then of course, the rest of the dish, twirled and slurped—not too quickly… every bite a confirmation and yet still a revelation. Here again, my only lament that I must see a portion of it boxed to leave room for dessert. And… dessert. Oh, boy… Seeing all of the items, my wife and I—in celebration of our 26th anniversary—decided on the sampler. Listen up, folks: flourless chocolate torta, crème custard napoleon, and gooey butter cake. JFC are you serious? Every bite more sumptuous—more scrumptious than the last. Every bit a reassurance that I will return. Our server, Chelsea, was commendable not only for her menu knowledge and sense of humor, but it’s not for nothing that she was absolutely on top of it with regard to my tea refills (which were many, as our dinner took place after a dehydratingly-busy workday for me). We will definitely be returning to Eleven Eleven, whereupon I intend to try a few different items, my palate then flooded with new sensations—new wonders… my only lament that I will not ever have that “first time experience” again.“

My husband and I came here for a cocktail and apps one afternoon; we loved it so much, we decided we wanted to come here on our wedding day with our bridal party! Our bartender was attentive and kind, bringing water to our party of 12 and the cocktails shortly after.
