“Vimala is a very gracious and friendly host. She also is a first rate chef. The food here is totally authentic (I’ve traveled through India for years), delicious and reasonably priced. The portions are generous. We had lamb, chicken and fish curry dishes at our table, as well as their delicious naan. Every single dish was on point. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere and there is an inviting courtyard where you can have your meal as well. This place is among the very best places to eat in Chapel Hill.“
“First time and we loved everything. Best Indian experience in the area. We had mango lassi, Thai iced tea (different in a good way), saag paneer, veggie momos (wow!), aaloo gobi (veggie and delicious blend of flavors. The complementary lentil (?) crackers and chutney were appreciated. I look forward to going back with friends. Very good service too.“
“Vegetarian options: The vegetarian menu is extensive and clearly marked. Also they offer a vegetarian thali combo for people like me who suffer from menu indecision, or just want to get something for a date night in, or a small family thing.“
“My spouse and I enjoyed our lunch here so much, we returned two days later with our son and daughter-in-law and two granddaughters. Everything was delicious! All but one of us ordered the special thali lunch--7 little bowls with everything from rice to salad to two chicken dishes and luscious chickpeas. It was a bargain at $15!“
“A nice lunch in Chapel Hill. The restaurant was quiet due to the university out for the holiday break so nice for lunch. We had the shrimp tikka masala and the chettinad shrimp. Both delicious. The chettinad was a lot more spicy but really good flavor. Only downside on both entrees was the shrimp was left “tail on” so made it a bit messy to eat since covered in sauce. The house garlic naan was exceptional. We will be back!! Friendly and prompt service. Restaurant was very clean.“

“Was suggested this place to try and I'm glad we did. Husband and I shared lamb appetizers, and it was delicious. We came just for a small bite and almost ate the entire menu. First time truly having Indian food and this place did not disappoint. Service was impeccable. Atmosphere was great. Can't wait to come back and try more items whenever we visit NC again.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options“
“I am a student at NC State and I’ve eaten Sitar catered through different events on campus. I was able to come with my family to Sitar tonight, and it was just as phenomenal as before. I am absolutely obsessed. The restaurant environment was cozy and clean, and the employees were all kind. Additionally, they were keen to fill up our glasses and take away empty plates. Ram checked in on us a few times to ensure our comfort, and it was an overall great meal. I ate until I couldn’t anymore, and I am so excited to eat it again sometime in the future. Thanks for a fulfilling meal!!“
“I've been here twice since they opened. Got the vegetable samosas with the 2 chutneys and the butter chicken with garlic naan and everything has been SO good. Samosas hot and crisp out of the fryer. Chutneys and butter chicken on point. So glad a great Indian restaurant opened up in this little neighborhood of south Durham!“
“Fantastic Indian food, among the best in Durham. We’ve eaten here several times, dishes are distinct with fresh flavors, not too much reliance on ghee. Staff is friendly and helpful. It’s clean and well lit for eating in but really designed more as a takeout, fast casual atmosphere. It’s our new go-to Indian takeout place in west Durham.“
“India Gate has become a special place for me. The food is incredible. The spices and seasonings are curated per dish to absolute perfection, while the portions are plentiful and flavor packed. Every bite gets better throughout the meal. The only disappointment I have is that unfortunately, every meal must come to an end, and I'm left wanting to order more! The staff is extremely pleasant and courteous. I cant say enough great things about this place, I'm so glad they opened right up from where I live! Support this place with me, so we all can enjoy many more years of excellent food and service here!“
“We love the buffet! Unfortunately, the buffet switched from weekdays to the weekend. We still prefer this Indian buffet over all the other in the area. The buffet changes daily, and there's always plenty of good vegetarian and meat options. They also separate the meat and vegetarian options at the buffet, which I think is a big plus. Not all their food is spicy, but some is. If you like spice, this is the Indian restaurant to try.Vegetarian options: One section of the bar is completely vegetarian!Parking: Never an issue with parking“
“This is my first ever review. My wife and I were passing through Durham and decided to give this place a try. It did not disappoint. It was the best Indian food I’ve ever had. My wife studied abroad in India and she said it was the best she has had in America. We got samosas, aloo naan, onion naan, mix veg pakora, butter chicken and palak paneer. Every single dish slapped. Go here.“
“We just ate lunch at Lime & Lemon for the first time today. Muhammad was so kind and helpful with our hearing impaired son and helping us with food and drink recommendations. We really enjoyed the lunch special with Chicken Tikki Masala. It was very reasonably priced for the generous amount of food we ate. We are traveling, but we will be back when we visit the area again!“
