“We usually enjoy the drinks, food, and great atmosphere there. However, something seems to have changed with the food.
The burger I got the other day was disastrous. Not only was it not tasty, but it also caused serious stomach discomfort. The patties were paper-thin, overcooked, and basically just two pieces of charcoal.
I don't know what changed, but please bring the good burger back.
Also, to truly enjoy the outdoor space, it would be nice to have some sort of screen or barrier from the road and passing cars.“

Live music on the weekends But we also hosted our one year olds first birthday party here! We had about 40 people. “The Freedom Cafe has been my go-to place this year. The people are so welcoming and friendly. Angie is always all smiles and somehow remembers most of the patrons' names (how does she do that??). I love the ambiance - good music and great vibes. Amazing drinks (the Almond Joy latte and the tiramisu latte are both oh so good!) and delicious healthy fresh food (my favorite is the 2-egg omelet with pico de gallo and spinach). Durham is so lucky to have this place. I will continue to make the drive from Dover.“

“I was planning to go to a different downtown restaurant and walked in to this one as it started raining. The waitress took every effort to ensure our dietary requirements were taken care of. They had quite a few veggie burger options. We picked The Cool Beans, which came with a black bean and corn patty. She was quite transparent with the fact that they used the same fryer and oil for frying meat,veggie appetizers and fries. So, she substituted fries with freshly sliced avocado. The burger itself was thick and juicy. We ordered a PB& Chocolate milkshake that capped out dinner. They went out of the way to limit cross contamination. Will definitely return.“

Food - Menu has good variety, the lobsters come in daily, cooked just right. The view across the river to Portsmouth is like no other, plus the river traffic and bridge openings, lobster boats, big ships, tugs, you name it. River breezes tend to keep things a little cooler. No substitutions. I was willing to pay for the upgrade. No go. I live in the area and there are a lot of other options which I'll be trying.“

“I was at Aroma Joe’s the other day and I had a great experience. The girl working was so nice to me and made my drink and food so well. She even asked me about my vacation and we bonded over it and realized that we were at the same resort in the Bahamas. My hot chai was steamed to perfection and she even added my dairy free milk. She was the cutest thing I had to add a tip to her. Hats off to this lovely young woman in our society.“
