The amenities and thoughtfulness they put into this experience puts this place in a league of its own. We did the 4lbs (we are a family of 6) with the Cajun sauce. “Can I please give it 6 stars? I recently went there with a group of five family members while visiting New Jersey and we had a truly extraordinary night! As an investor in restaurants I'm very critical when visiting any restaurant and not often impressed even with well known critically acclaimed restaurants. It's very rare when a place has truly incredible food with every appetizer and entree as well as first class VIP vibes for service. You could literally taste the passion and care put into every plate with beautifully prepared flavorful abundant meals. In fact, it was the first time in almost a decade I brought home leftovers as the meal was delicious and easily sufficient for two people. Our entire table raved about their meals and the attentive but not obtrusive service was always there to refill our wine and assist without any of us having to look up for service. The food alone would have made for a great night but what truly made it memorable besides the great waitstaff was the manager, Eli. When was the last time a manager, GM or owner greated you at your table to share a polite, interesting and passionate conversation about the food and why they love sharing this experience with their valued customers? He made our entire table feel like VIPs and made perfect recommendations for wine and dessert. It felt more like we were in someone's home as we were there for close to 3-1/2 hours talking, eating, drinking and laughing. The ambiance is warm and unpretentious and the memories of a great experience will certainly bring us back again.“

The soup was incredibly tasty, and the 'mini' size with extra fish was more than enough to feed three people—it’s a great value. I was also pleasantly surprised by the fried milk; I had never tried it before, but the lady was kind enough to give us a sample, and I ended up absolutely loving it. Several dishes stood out, especially the scallop course, which was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. The duck dish was another highlight—rich, tender, and beautifully balanced. It’s also BYOB, and they offer some excellent non-alcoholic drink options that pair nicely with the meal.

Dessert was the perfect ending, with a bright lemon cake and a decadent chocolate dish that were both outstanding.

“I ordered family lunch. 16 pieces of fish, 8 whiting/8 flounder; reasonable at $56 no sides. The fish was very fresh. It was fried well, crispy with a slightly thick panko breading. I prefer a thinner corn meal breading. I did not detect any seasoning, i.e. Old Bay, salt or pepper so sprinkled it on when I got home. You can also order fish, scallops, shrimp, combos with fries and sides. Overall, it was a good substitute for having to fry it myself and I will likely go again. There is a good variety of fresh fish and seafood for purchase too.“

“It would be easy to overlook this place. It’s buried way in the back of a strip mall. The interior ambience isn’t anything to brag about, either. Yet it is a true gem with amazing food at good prices and excellent service. My wife and I each ordered pizzas. She got the 12” Chicken Pesto and I ordered the 12” Meat Lover’s. Both came out promptly. It was amazing, the best pizza I’ve had in years. I can’t say too many good things about it. Everything was in perfect harmony, a symphony of umami and cheese. Meatballs, sausage, bacon. It had it all. Each bite a delight. My wife also loved her pizza. We stopped in on a Monday on the way up north for a show. There were a few tables occupied but I would imagine it probably gets busy on weekends. Even so, I would make a point of stopping in here again next time I’m passing through the area at dinner time.“

It's always a pleasure to be greeted like old friends by owner Stephane Bocket and seated at what we think is the best table in the tastefully decorated, elegant restaurant. We both chose the prix fixe menu. For starters, my wife had the always terrific moules and I a lovely mixed salad. We both chose beef bourguignons for our main course and asked Stephane to suggest wine from the by-the-glass list. His selections of a chablis for my wife and pinot noir for me worked perfectly with the outstanding bourguignons. We finished by sharing a delicious Baba au Rhum, prepared by Stephane at tableside. Dining at Chez Catherine is always a special event to us. Everything about it is first class. If you are unfamiliar with Chez Catherine, it has been one of New Jersey's Top 5 restaurants for nearly 40 years.
