“I can’t tell which is better, the food or service. We came in around noon on a Saturday. While it looked packed they were able to seat us the bar within 2-3 minutes of coming in, coffees served quick and the food was out in no more than 10 minutes. The vegan options are plentiful and soooo good. I had vegan salmon benedict and the missus had the vegan penny benny. It was my first time and the vegan salmon is damn good here.“

“I appreciate talent and I believe you can find talent in anything. The art of "bread-tending" is observed to the highest level here. It may just be a piece of toast you use to dip in your egg yolk or eat with a little dollop of the best jam east of the Hudson river. BUT, that toast is more than that. There is a set of well trained hands that prepare that toast for you. Someone that has prepared toast thousands of times and everything from the sound of her slicing the toast is perfect. The execution is impeccable and if I can get this excited about their toast, just imagine how well everything else will taste. The talent at this place is appreciated and recognized, keep it up guys! We had bacon and egg buns, plus treated to chocolate maple syrup pancakes on the last day. Also best earl grey I’ve had outside of England!

So glad Shaun himself stepped out as well as a gentleman who came to pick up his order. We got to ask his opinion of the food. He told us this was his 7th time back so we thought, Let’s give it a try! $58 later, we got 3 meals and WOW! Delicious!!! Everything was so GOOD! Catfish, Yams, Mac n Cheese (and I am VERY picky about Mac n cheese), Honey Garlic Salmon, BBQ wings, rice and gravy and that cornbread!!!! Definitely coming back! I hope this review helps another skeptic not miss out on a GREAT SPOT!!!!! Worth the try! The portions are hearty! So glad we decided to give it a shot!!!“

“I really wish I could give a five star because the sandwich I received was amazing. I’m giving four stars because the atmosphere of the entire place needs to match everything. The worker at the register was honestly just rude and had a very standoffish attitude. It almost made me want to cancel my order and walk out the store. “I come here when I need work done on my car, since my mechanic is a few blocks away , unfortunately it has been too often. Coming to Breakhouse puts some good vibes Into the trip. “This is my childhood coffee shop, they were the best then and they are the best now. The donuts are made daily, yummy. I can't leave Brooklyn without my BLT. The place is small, each table can only accommodate 4 people. The best customer service and food!“

“It’s simple, laid back, and neighborhood friendly. Just like its name it’s BASIC & honestly I like the average vibes it offers.

The giant windows allow great natural light in, and the space is rustic mixed with a bookstore. It would be great if they would place outdoor tables to invite visitors in. Honestly sometimes I can’t tell whether they are open or not….

Additionally, I do wish they offered variety such as sandwiches and dinner items and catered for longer hours until 7:30 pm. It would be ideal considering there’s a rush in the area past 6 pm. I am very curious to see how they stay afloat now with the new bagel shop down the block.

The female cashier is nice as well as the chef. The owner doesn’t show much expression or emotion, and I respect him for keeping to himself. I just hope you can keep up with the changes in the neighborhood, I’m rooting for you Basic Cafe!
