There's comfortable seating and you can put your own sauce on like salsa verde. Generous serving sizes as well. Highly recommend eating here if you're in the area! They have horchata as well which was the perfect amount of sweet and helped calm down the spice from the tacos.“

Note that the food here is based on the cuisines of two Mexican states in the southern and central western parts of Mexico: Oaxaca and Jalisco. Two friends, my wife, and I really loved the tuna tostados, truffle esquites (street corn), arrachera, veggie tacos, and churros that were all part of the Power Lunch menu. We also enjoyed their Sangria and Gringo drinks. Our server, Sharon, was very frinedly and knew the menu well. “IXIM TACO feels like one of the more promising new additions to Hackensack’s Main Street.

What immediately separates it from the usual fast-casual taco experience is the tortilla. Corn tortillas are pressed fresh to order, and that detail changes the entire structure of the taco. They arrive warm, soft and with an actual corn character rather than simply functioning as a container for the filling.

We tried the chicken, fish and birria tacos, which gave us a good first look at the kitchen. The fish taco is the more constructed of the three, while the birria delivers the richer, slower-cooked side of the menu. But the common thread remains the masa, and that seems to be where IXIM is building its identity.

The restaurant itself is casual and efficient rather than theatrical. The emphasis is clearly on fresh preparation, quick service and a relatively focused menu.

It is still a young concept, and that is perhaps the most interesting part. IXIM feels less like a finished statement than a very good promise. If they maintain the quality of the tortillas, ingredients and execution as the restaurant grows, this could become one of the more distinctive taco spots in Hackensack and Bergen County.

“Hosted a happy hour business event here recently. Everything was perfect. Tacalle is a great space- an outdoor venue that's unique in midtown Manhattan. It's beautifully, but simply, decorated and was the perfect atmosphere for my event. The food is excellent and the staff was all great. Highly recommend Tacalle for a business event, but have also had their tacos for lunch, and it's a great lunch space as well.“
