Owner & Server were friendly. The shop was Very Cozzy & CLEAN . The Menue is
Substantial , so you have plenty Selection. All looked Tasty .

“In a city full of incredible cafes, Cafe Lafayette quickly became my favorite. The food and drinks are exceptional, and the environment is warm and inviting. Whether you’re there to chat with friends or to work or study in peace, it offers a friendly, calming atmosphere that brings the community together. The cherry on top is the staff, who go above and beyond with their service and make everyone feel welcome. All of these things come together to create the perfect cafe, and I couldn’t recommend it more.“

“Got to know this small corner spot because of my teens, very nice place the owner and the Ecuadorean girl that handles the food are great very attentive and hospitable they make you feel right at home. The food if you like halal the breakfast and pastries ? are soft and delicious the seating is alittle tight but if you don’t mind it then you’ll enjoy the atmosphere I recommend for anyone in jersey city near Hudson community college and Saint Peter’s university. “The green balance was great. It was nice to find a healthy option here for a smoothie in the morning in Jersey City. My wife just got a latte but was not a fan of the coffee, that's the only reason for taking a star. I'd come back for a smoothie next time for sure.“

The owner “Diego” educated us the difference of tastes and quality of coffee including which one should be with milk and those that will killed the exquisite taste of a real coffee. “I live in the area and attend college out of town so getting to the library on my off days is tough. I've been looking for a place with a chill ambiance, wifi, good tea, and coffee. Well, look no more for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Great rustic look, comfy seating with back support, loads of outlets for laptops, and the second-floor space are super cute and cozy too. Oh and there's a small little outside area that's pretty cool as well. Shaquille (hope I spelled it right) was AMAZING! So down-to-earth, friendly, polite, and easy to talk to. She made me the Tumeric latte for me and I all but licked the cup clean. I had the hummus & cucumber on sourdough toast and it was divine. Also, a great option for vegans. I totally recommend this place if you have similar needs or just want to hang out with some friends. I will surely be going back.“

Service and drink quality also vary widely depending on the day and the barista. Some consistency would go a long way—cross-training or regular monthly training sessions could help maintain the high standards their drinks deserve.

All in all, I still recommend stopping by—especially if you have a few bucks to spare and a craving for something tasty. That said, with the heavy vibe inside, maybe a more fitting name would be Somber Shot“

The space has a charming vibe with plenty of seating, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I tried a pancake served with butter and fresh fruit, as well as a baked quiche with prosciutto and cheese (wish I had snapped a photo!). Beyond pastries and croissants, they also offer sandwiches, soups, and salads for lunch. The café had a steady flow of guests, with many choosing to sit and relax. The Wi-Fi was reliable, and I had no trouble working for a few hours. Overall, I loved the ambiance and food—would definitely return!“

“Belle Âme is the type of coffee shop that puts LOVE in their food craft. One of the best coffee shop sandwiches I had in a while. NY coffee shops don’t top this honestly.

Plus, the coffee shop has a versatile of seating arrangements. Great for my ADHD friends. 😅“

“It’s simple, laid back, and neighborhood friendly. Just like its name it’s BASIC & honestly I like the average vibes it offers.

The giant windows allow great natural light in, and the space is rustic mixed with a bookstore. It would be great if they would place outdoor tables to invite visitors in. Honestly sometimes I can’t tell whether they are open or not….

Additionally, I do wish they offered variety such as sandwiches and dinner items and catered for longer hours until 7:30 pm. It would be ideal considering there’s a rush in the area past 6 pm. I am very curious to see how they stay afloat now with the new bagel shop down the block.

The female cashier is nice as well as the chef. The owner doesn’t show much expression or emotion, and I respect him for keeping to himself. I just hope you can keep up with the changes in the neighborhood, I’m rooting for you Basic Cafe!

“Located in an apartment building called The Urby. The cafe space is expansive, with lots of comfy seating. I visited late afternoon on a weekend and it was packed with people on their laptops working. They have a variety of food options, including breakfast and lunch specials, as well as typical cafe pastries and cakes. Tried the pumpkin chai latte and ham and cheese crepe. Was disappointed by the chai, which was watery and overly sweet. The crepe was not bad. I’ll keep this spot in mind as a nice place to do some work and have a bite.“

“Good food and reasonable prices. I often go here during lunch breaks. Easiest spot to get bagels in the neighborhood without walking multiple blocks. The outdoor patio in the back is great during the warmer months, indoor seating is tight.

I tried to eat here earlier in the morning (7:30am) on a weekday and they weren’t open yet, so worth nothing that their early hours may not match what is listed.“

“I’ve only ordered from here and the food has been good. I love their mac and cheese and their lentil sweet potato soup. Probably had a burger once and it was good — beyond burger, so you can’t really mess the up. The only thing I don’t like about this place is how OVERPRICED they are, especially with a lot of their portion sizes. I have to really be craving their mac and cheese to spend money here, but it definitely isn’t one of those go-to vegan spots in my opinion, unless you’re okay with constantly spending the money. But yeah very unreasonable prices for a lot of basic stuff.“
