It was a bit expensive, however I got quite a bit of food so that might balance itself out to some people. The vegan banana nut muffin was delicious! “I live in the area and attend college out of town so getting to the library on my off days is tough. I've been looking for a place with a chill ambiance, wifi, good tea, and coffee. Well, look no more for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Great rustic look, comfy seating with back support, loads of outlets for laptops, and the second-floor space are super cute and cozy too. Oh and there's a small little outside area that's pretty cool as well. Shaquille (hope I spelled it right) was AMAZING! So down-to-earth, friendly, polite, and easy to talk to. She made me the Tumeric latte for me and I all but licked the cup clean. I had the hummus & cucumber on sourdough toast and it was divine. Also, a great option for vegans. I totally recommend this place if you have similar needs or just want to hang out with some friends. I will surely be going back.“

Service and drink quality also vary widely depending on the day and the barista. Some consistency would go a long way—cross-training or regular monthly training sessions could help maintain the high standards their drinks deserve.

The property manager, Tiffany, is awesome and is always so helpful. Everyone at the front desk is welcoming and always so nice and helpful. The Super is a really nice guy who always greets you with a smile. And the maintenance staff were all great! Never had any issues at all.

The giant windows allow great natural light in, and the space is rustic mixed with a bookstore. It would be great if they would place outdoor tables to invite visitors in. Honestly sometimes I can’t tell whether they are open or not….

Additionally, I do wish they offered variety such as sandwiches and dinner items and catered for longer hours until 7:30 pm. It would be ideal considering there’s a rush in the area past 6 pm. I am very curious to see how they stay afloat now with the new bagel shop down the block.

The female cashier is nice as well as the chef. The owner doesn’t show much expression or emotion, and I respect him for keeping to himself. I just hope you can keep up with the changes in the neighborhood, I’m rooting for you Basic Cafe!

First, the temperature: I’m not saying it was cold, but I’m pretty sure I saw a White Walker ordering a muffin in the corner. I walked in wearing a light jacket; I walked out regretting that I didn't bring my Antarctic survival gear and a sled dog team. I tried to type an email, but my fingers froze into a claw shape around my spoon.

Then, the cappuccino: I ordered a cappuccino at 2:00 PM. A sensible, mid-afternoon pick-me-up, right? Wrong. I don’t know what kind of beans they use—I suspect they are harvested from the center of a volcano and watered exclusively with Red Bull—but this beverage was not coffee. It was weaponized adrenaline.

The Aftermath: It is currently the next day. I have not slept. I have not blinked. Last night, around 3:30 AM, while staring at my ceiling fan, I realized I could hear colors and see the fourth dimension. I have since reorganized my pantry by expiration date and alphabetized my spice rack.

The Verdict: If you have a deadline due in an hour and haven't started, or if you need to stay awake for three to five business days, get the cappuccino. Just bring a parka.“

The portions are decent. You get a lot of food and vegetables. I guarantee you get full after finishing your meal.
