“I came about this restaurant driving on the 440 in Jersey City and looking for something to eat and Walla I found my to go place, whenever I want to eat Vietnamese food this is my place to go! “This place is my go to whenever I am sick. The spicy lemongrass pho is my medicine. I just tried their chicken wings last night and I will ordering more! The grill platters are good as well. did you also know they allow you to order directly to them using a rewards app call BUTTER? it keeps track of your orders and gives you GREAT rewards.

I was also very sick a few months ago for almost a month and I asked little extra things (limes, extra chili oil) and they were so accommodating.“

“BEST PHO I EVER HAD IN THIS COUNTRY. I was craving for pho and stumbled upon this place. There was a 40min wait to be seated and don't be discouraged by this because the food is really worth the wait. Their pho is flavorful and they give a generous portion of beef. “I've had Bahn Mi's all over NYC but this place is the most flavorful. They pack the sandwich with well marinated veggies, the meats are always tender and bread is nice and crusty. The prices are reasonable too at $11. I wish they offered appetizers too like fried spring rolls.“

Owned and operated by Helen Nguyen who uses her wonderful restaurant to prepare food for those in need for various organizations in NYC. She is a wonderful person and an amazing chef using her classical training to prepare amazingly authentic and forward thinking Vietnamese dishes. It’s a must visit!!!!“

“Just as good as some of the best food you can get in Vietnam. Bun Cha Gio and Banh Cuon Ha No were really good, but the house beef pho was truly exceptional. Service was also fast, attentive, and very kind. Will definitely be going back ASAP.“

“This place is cozy and makes for a nice place to go out with friends, dates or even alone! I went in by myself and tried their banh mi, which despite not being like what you would find in a typical Vietnamese spot, was super tasty and I highly recommend it. Use my photo as evidence of how good it is, I ate half of it before I finally took a photo, haha. The bread itself was soft, it tasted fresh, and the filling wasn't overly spicy or bland, it was just right. The baked goods looked tempting and I might have to try them next time.

Service wise, they're great. The staff will let you know how long you'll wait for items and they are good at what they do, both in the front facing customers and in the back prepping.“

“Went on a weekend before they opened maybe 30 minutes before and was able to get a seat in the first seating at the counter. The food was really delicious and I understand the hype. I really like the lychee slushy. The oysters they had were my favorite and I really enjoyed the rolls and sandwich. They do have the option to order online which is great because I passed by during the week and line was still long.“

“Sao Mai is a family-run restaurant in the East Village that serves traditional Vietnamese staples. We came here on a Saturday night, and the place is packed. They don’t accept reservations, so allow yourselves some time to be seated.

For our group of 4, we were seated early as we chose to dine slightly early. For appetizers, we devoured crispy spring rolls served with lettuce and mint leaves, and crispy calamari with a dipping sauce. Both appetizers were freshly made and delicious.

We then ordered our own entrees. For myself, I selected grilled lemongrass pork chop with fried rice. Everyone enjoyed their dishes; my friend even quipped that it was really a good, unpretentious dinner to be had.

With a good price point and friendly customer service, we can’t wait to come back to try their other dishes.“

The bulgogi completely stole the show - it was incredibly juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. The chicken was delicious as well, and they were very generous with the portions of both proteins.

The chicken is tender, juicy, and full of flavor, and I really like how a squeeze of lime lifts the broth and makes it taste even brighter and fresher. The portions are generous, the service is consistently good, and the restaurant is always clean, well-kept, and nicely decorated. I often come here for lunch with my coworkers, and it has become one of those reliable spots we keep returning to. If there’s one downside, it’s that the restaurant only opens from lunchtime onward, so sadly it’s not an option when I’m craving a good bowl of pho in the morning.“

“I got the OG Pho. It was fine. The flavor was somewhat savory sweet but ultimately just fine. Pork belly bao was similarly savory and satisfying. The hoisin sauce definitely helped.

The best part was the service. Efficient is the best way to describe it. I barely got to talk to my friend because the food was there first.

They do not use soy sauce and many peanuts for those with allergies. Compared to other vietnamese places they are very accommodating to many diets, but at baseline their menu is safe. I've gotten take out a couple times and the banh mi's bread were quite soft and a bit soggy so I had to throw it back in the air fryer. And the pho were very small portions with 4 pieces of thin meat. Other than that, they're quick and friendly with their service.“

My youngest (whose favorite restaurant is MacDonalds) scarfed down his chicken pho with enthusiasm.
