“Authentic Thai-Laotian cuisine with fresh ingredients and homemade sauces. It’s a family style restaurant, with a warm atmosphere, like you're parents cooking. You can also experience 1-5 star level of spiciness, which number 5 is the highest and spiciest with fresh Thai-Laotian hot chili. I can say “Lao hot is the REAL Thing” 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥“

“Would recommend! Great experience. Got the fried branzino, pad see ew, Crying Tiger, and a side of sautéed morning glory for a party of 3 people. Was a good amount, had a little bit of leftover but everyone was very full.
Favorite was the branzino! Would also reco getting the side of vegetables as it was a great palate resetter.“

“Busy spot with quick and easy service. Fun range in cocktails, crab fried rice is delicious and they had pork cheeks (served with thai chili slices and ginger, which was perfect), which is one of my favorite appetizers.
All flavorful“

“I love green curry, if I could eat just one food for the rest of my life it's green curry so I'm picky when I try a new place and this place was INCREDIBLE!!! I inhaled this dish like it was my last meal and wanted more, and great service“

“The food here was excellent. I got the Pad Thai and it was one of the best I've ever had. Their appetizers are all very good. I'd highly recommend going here on a date or family dinner. Menu is a little pricy but worth it.“

“Visited this Thai restaurant on a weekday. Prices are reasonable for the area, and they offer a good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. The staff were friendly, and the ambience was simple yet pleasant. Overall, a nice spot for a casual meal.“

“Brought my parents here when they visited from Missouri, as I live in the area. The servers were so kind and attentive. I have a gluten intolerance, but not full celiacs disease. They were very careful about cross contamination (which doesn’t seem to bother me) and which dishes are or could be made gluten free. Great authentic Thai food, offered along with new innovations. Will be coming back often!“

“Seriously one of the best Thai restaurants in Hell’s Kitchen. The place is small, but the flavors they offer pack a big punch.
The seafood pad Thai, kangkung, and shrimp eggplant dishes were all the rage. I enjoyed the crispness of the kangkung, the umami from the eggplant, and the tenderness of mussels and squid in their pad Thai. I can’t wait to come back and try some more of their delicious offerings.
The duck curry (I think this was a panang base) and the som tum was so flavorful and was packed with so much decadence. I really appreciated how ThongLor highlighted produce typically found in Thai cuisine, and didn’t skimp out on the bamboo shoot. They also added pineapple in their curry, which isn’t traditional of Thai cuisine but really added some acid to the dish which made it so balanced.
We had a bua loi for dessert and I’ll be honest, it wasn’t the best one I’ve had, but it still felt like a warm hug and a nice palate cleanser for the meal. I wish that the bua loi had more of a thicker coconut consistency, and that the taro balls weren’t as stuck together so it was easy to pick up. That being said, it was still a great end to our wonderful meal.
Would I come back again? Absolutely. I highly recommend coming to this place with no more than 4 people. Seating is limited in the space so bring 3 of your closest friends and try everything on the menu.“

“Really cozy and cute place on the second floor. I had the green curry with crab, which I enjoyed!
Just know that when you get the receipt, they already automatically calculate in 18% tip to your total bill. I almost tipped them twice, so beware of this. I felt that was a bit shady, and if I hadn’t read the bill closely, I would have easily paid more than necessary.“

“The Tom Kha soup was delicious and subtle, and the beef Pad See Eew was lovely - not too heavy. Our server Pie was very attentive, friendly and efficient. Nice ambiance, also; nice lighting and good level on the music. Thank you - we’ll be back!“

Cocktails were creative and perfectly balanced. Service was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. You can tell there’s real passion behind everything here. Highly recommend—I’ll definitely be back!“

“I came here because of their amazing 4.9 rating on Google Maps, however, I was not amazed by their food. I got curry puffs to start my dinner. The puffs were nice and flavorful. The outside was light and flaky, and the insides were well seasoned with nice texture. The sauce came with was too sweet to my liking. Personally I prefer eating it as it is. I pad see ew with shrimp and added beef($5). The flavor was nice and the shrimp was fresh and clean. However, the beef wasn’t so good especially when I paid $5 extra for them. It was too dry and chewy.
Overall, it’s a standard Thai restaurant. The food was nice but nothing special about it.“

“Midtown, You’ve Been Holding Out on Us
We stumbled into BKK last night for a pre-concert dinner before seeing the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall. Total last-minute booking because our original plans fell through and thank god they did, because this ended up being one of the most unexpectedly excellent Thai meals we’ve had in the city.
This stretch of 56th Street is usually a culinary dead zone, the kind of place you go for proximity, not pleasure, so finding something this good felt like cheating the system. The décor was surprisingly polished, almost transporting. It reminded us of the kind of sleek, design-forward restaurants you’d see in Bangkok where every detail, down to the plates and glassware, feels intentional.
We started with their signature shrimp donuts, and honestly, whoever came up with these deserves a raise. Fried appetizers tend to live and die by oil temperature and salt, but these were next-level: crisp, caramel-tinged crust, almost like a hint of molasses, and somehow still light. Don’t sleep on them.
The papaya salad with jumbo shrimp was bright and refreshing though I did ask for ‘Thai spicy’ and clearly got the “he’s can’t be serious, don’t hurt him” version. Next time I’ll insist.
For my main, I ordered the half roasted chicken, which was impressively tender, both white and dark meat perfectly done, no dryness in sight. It came with these small pickles that were so well balanced I could’ve eaten them as a side dish on their own. The sticky rice it came with was also a nice touch just what you want to chase every bite with.
My husband had the Pad See Ew with chicken and made a point to also say how juicy the chicken was which, let’s be real, almost never happens with chicken breast. His only critique: could’ve used a little more wok hei, that smoky char you want from a good stir-fry, but otherwise it hit all the right notes.
Dessert time: the Thai Iced Tea Panna Cotta was an absolute standout rich, aromatic, and not cloyingly sweet. Whoever decided to make Thai tea into a panna cotta deserves applause. The coconut ice cream with shaved salted egg on top was clever and generous in portion. The coconut flavor could’ve been stronger, but as someone who also loves plain vanilla, I didn’t mind at all.
Cocktails? Also excellent. I had the Sticky Situation (Earl Grey, citrus, something else I can’t remember but it worked). My husband had another equally creative one — strong, balanced, and beautifully presented.
All in all, BKK feels like the rare Midtown Thai restaurant that isn’t just going through the motions. It’s thoughtful, delicious, and clearly run by people who care about flavor and design in equal measure. I just hope they don’t water things down over time to cater to diners whose idea of Thai food stops at pad thai and spring rolls.
We’ll definitely be back preferably before another concert, but honestly, this place is reason enough for a special trip on its own.“

“I gave this place five stars for one reason only: I wanted the people to read my review. If I gave one star, the review would be pushed back to the end. My review... Worst food we ever had in our lives!! Bland and expensive. It came with none of the toppings we ordered!! Tasteless and dry. I suspect the food was kept in the heat for most of the day. STAY AWAY FROM THIS S...HOLE!!!! It should be reported and closed. I can only imagine the unsanitary conditions of the place. Restaurants that do not care about the quality of their products do not care about hygiene.“

“Food and drink is great - authentic northern Thai food - duck isn’t greasy, the chicken liver & gizzards is to die for - everything is perfectly seasoned & the best part they made me my favorite salad - spicy cucumber salad which isn’t on the menu - will be going back for some more great eats!“

“A taste of authentic Bangkok in the heart of Astoria. Had the fried chicken curry plate where the aromatic rice was so delicious I couldn’t stop eating it. We also had the spicy Tom yum chicken soup.. it was like a hug for the soul. Along with the Som Tum pla ra (papaya salat with anchovies 🥰) Just what we needed after walking around Astoria. The customer service was impeccable. It’s always an exceptional dining experience when the people who work there genuinely love what they are serving. You can genuinely taste the love in each bite! We will definitely be boarding from here a lot more and trying everything else on the menu. This is a local business you want to support. Trust me!“

“The food we tried was delicious!! Seating upstairs and on main level. The mango salad with shrimp (a little spicy- not too much at all) and the curry pancakes are outstanding! I would come back again and again for those dishes- Best pancakes ever- nothing like a scallion pancake I’ve had before! The Thai crackers (with coconut shrimp and topped with a bit of pineapple and hot red pepper) were good- the rice cracker could be thinner. Unfortunately the margarita was terrible. It was stiff, foul no margarita mix. The mango drink with sticky rice on top was interesting- I liked it, bae wouldn’t order it again.“

“Wowwww!!!
We ate there and they treated us like family. What a nice family and wonderful service.
We ordered dirty beef sliders, spring rolls, super spicy green curry chicken, coconut soup and garlic chicken rice bowl. Amazing!
All the dishes were top notch.
It smelled great outside and inside and we were not disappointed. Definitely my new spot. Try it out and it will be yours too.“

“Great food with great service from happy people. Our waitress was so nice and attentive to our group. My niece casually mentioned she liked the ice (to chew on) and the waitress somehow overheard this and brought her a glass of ice. When she said she wished she could take it with her the nice lady reappeared with a plastic cup of ice to go. The whole evening was like that, almost like being in a family kitchen.“

“I’ll keep this one short: my Pad Thai noodles were not fully cooked, and the chewiness was distracting from the rest of the dish. The Tiger Eye dish with ribeye steak was cooked extremely well—very tender with rice topped with egg.
Our service was very positive and attentive, but at times overwhelmingly so. Great atmosphere and really good with kids (although I might not bring them back with me).“

“I was recommended the beef noodle soup and that was very tasty, as well as my friend's pad kra pow. I would say that the drunken noodle did lack a bit of flavor, though. The service was very helpful and attentive, and I loved the vinyl theme they had going on. It felt like a Thai record store on the inside!“

“What I enjoy most about Senn Thai Comfort Food is how authentic everything tastes. Nothing feels unduly fancy or heavy—just hearty, tasty food prepared with care. The proprietor greeted us with a bright smile, and the service felt pleasant throughout. The basil chicken had an incredible flavor, and the mango sticky rice was ideal. Cozy, clean, and consistently tasty!!!“

“Beautiful restaurant on the third floor of The Shops at Columbus Circle. We were not seated near a window but if you can try to sit there, beautiful views. We had a few appetizers and all were good. Beef satay was tender and not overpowered with the marinade. Pancakes were different than expected but had slightly crispy edges and tender inside and the crab (probably wrong term but I thought of it as crab salad) was bright and a refreshing counterpoint to the pancake. Black sticky rice lived up to its name. Mild flavor but good. Crispy pork rolls were good but least favorite for us. Very nice crunch but not much flavor. The only slight downside was the service. We were served water as soon as we were seated but waited more than 10 minutes to have a server come over and ask if we wanted a cocktail. Definitely busy lively restaurant worth trying for good Thai food jn an upscale atmosphere.“

“I have ate at Tom Yum Koong for quite some time, almost since the time I was 15 years old. I always grabbed a bite here after tutoring and extensive study hours.
After graduating, I am practically a regular now and have tried at least everything on the menu except for the chef's specials and several appetizers. I'm sure they are great too and worth sharing as a family.
For what it's worth, the owner, Anne is a wonderful person. She is enthusiastic about her culture, her dishes, and everything she provides to her customers is simply the best. Though, the food can be heavy and forced me to go into deep food comas at times! In fact, I was so hungry one time that I ordered a Pad Thai with extra noodles! It was crazy, but the consistency and use of aromatics, as well as sauce was amazing.
For starters of Thai cusine, I recommend anything from their lunch special. The salad, soup, and entree was worth it. I suppose that the portion is less than their dinners, but mind you, everything tasted delicious! However, the only thing I'd say is that the food has gotten expensive. It makes sense, so be very careful of ordering here like I did.
As for tipping, it is required here for sit-down and encouraged for takeout. I tend to eat here alone, and there's no shame in that, but I always tend to tip around $2-3. The restaurant does not do any Uber, Door dash, or anything of the like, so if you order, you'd need to pick it up yourself after calling the store, or wait until at least 5pm and call them for delivery. They accept either cash or card, but if it's card, you'd need to tell them your card information and the amount to tip.
Regardless, Tom Yum Koong is a great restaurant. Given how long I have been eating here, the owners treat me pretty much like family. I guess it's a good thing, but it's also probably because I always prefer eating here more than anywhere else!“
