Thanks to the entire Canteen family - and I say FAMILY purposefully as you feel the family atmosphere as soon as you arrive - for hosting our team for dinner last week. We booked out the whole restaurant and they did just what we hoped for: Maritime hospitality, wonderful, genuine service and knock-your-socks off food. The team from across Canada went bananas over the Crobster sandwich. The special welcome from the owners was a lovely touch. The guests raved all the way back across the harbour on the ferry about the wonderful meal from start to finish. It’s a lovely space that is not pretentious and puts an emphasis on fantastic food and exemplary service, with a genuine smile. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“

“We had excellent service on Canada Day 2024 with our friendly waitress Pal. She was very helpful and kept checking on our party of 12 ages from 3 to 80, to make sure everyone had what they wanted. She put treats on the Robot and had the children go get their treats off the tray on it, which was a highlight for them. We could tell she enjoys waitressing because she does it to perfection. The food was delicious and plated appetizingly, too!“

“This place was fantastic! We had seen lots of recommendations for it online, and decided to try it out during our two days in Halifax. We were lucky to get a reservation; make sure to book early, they were packed by 5:30pm and stayed packed the entire evening.

Food and service were both wonderful. We knew we wanted to try the raw scallop and the ahi tuna tartar, and our server was able to recommend cocktails to pair with our food. We also tried the incredible perch they had at the time. For an upscale restaurant, the portions were more than fair. The scallop was more of an appetizier, but the tartar and perch were both full meals in and of themselves. Everything was well cooked, the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming.

If you haven't been to the Ostrich Club yet, stop what you're doing and make a reservation right now. This place is a gem, and our visit was nothing short of extraordinary from start to finish.

We were lucky enough to be served by Alana Steele- who we later discovered is the owner herself. That says everything about the warmth and hands-on hospitality this place radiates. Alana was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about every dish she described. You could feel the love she has for this restaurant in every interaction.

Now, the food. Where do I even begin? The shrimp dumplings were delicate, perfectly steamed, and packed with flavour — an ideal way to set the tone for the evening. The maitake mushrooms were earthy and beautifully prepared, the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite just to appreciate it. The chicken was succulent and expertly seasoned, and the tuna was fresh, elegant, and absolutely stunning — the highlight of our savoury courses.

The cocktail program deserves its own standing ovation. Innovative doesn't even cover it — each drink was a conversation piece, creative without being gimmicky, and perfectly complementary to the food. The whole cocktail menu was themed to the TV show the ‘The Office’ and was whimsical and fun. Really loved that Sherry was prominently featured in the recipes.

And then came dessert. The donuts and the Banana chocolate was without exaggeration, one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. Warm, indulgent, and finished with such care — the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Super stoked to see an interesting Whisky collection as well and was fortunate to have a Weller Full Proof dram with dessert.

The Ostrich Club is the kind of place that reminds you why dining out is one of life's great pleasures. We will absolutely be back, and we'll be bringing everyone we know.“

“Our server was very helpful with directions about Halifax. She was not put out at all and seemed genuinely kind. She was prompt and attentive. The chicken wings were tasty, the margarita was far to sour, in my oppion. Very much an irish pub menu.“

The day we were in Im guessing the a/c must have been broken as it was very warm and uncomfortable. We left after our meal which was a shame because we would have stayed for dessert and more. “The other people on here are right about the Tonkotsu Ramen. This probably exceeds most ramen-only shops. I don't usually drink the soup but I find myself almost polishing it off. It's light but filled with umami flavor and the grilled pork is amazing too. They didn't take any shortcuts with the onsen egg too, it has the shoyu flavor it's supposed to and just slightly underdone. The atmosphere is chill and homely and service is quick. You can leave in 15-20 minutes or stay for however long. Definitely coming back and trying other stuff on the menu!“

My first time eating fresh sushi in a restaurant (only previous experience was eating California rolls from a supermarket), and it was a thoroughly pleasurable meal. Fast/friendly service, delicious food…they even included an extra platter of sushi on the house! Highly recommend!!“

“My son and I attended the John Prine Tribute Show Saturday night; the talent was spectacular and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, during the music break, I became ill very suddenly (non alcohol related), and got sick as I tried to reach the washroom. I was so embarassed and upset, but a lovely customer and the owner were incredible. Emma and Karen made sure I was well taken care of, cleaning me up, calming me down, rubbing my back, getting me water and wet/dry cloths. I can't thank you both enough!
