“Cute small restaurant inside The Hungry Pearl with plenty of seating. I ordered the Mauritanian Hanger Steak with the Ethiopian Red Lentil Stew and the Smoky Jollof rice ! Everything was so flavorful and fulfilling! I also ordered a side of Waka Waka fries and Hibiscus cooler to complete my meal! The meat was halal which was also something I appreciated!“

“I didn't get all my food. I was told they will follow up they did not, I actually got a call because they thought I was placing another order. Sorry you screwed up once and had a chance to fix it and didn't? I won't be back here. Branzino with green sauce and Asparagus, which they were out of, was replaced by Spinach I did not receive. When your starring at a plate with just fish and a slice of lemon, you feel like something is. missing. Also had the rack of lamb with green sauce and Jollof rice. This dish was amazing. Lamb was perfectly cooked and the selection of different sauce was amazing. We also had the Hibiscus drink and Ginger drink, the ginger is so strong you can dilute it into 2x drinks or 3x.“

“Burger Baby by Wonder absolutely exceeded my expectations! I had the truffle burger, and it was incredible perfectly cooked, so juicy, and packed with flavor. “Awash is always a good time! The food is amazing and the combos are always worth it! Make sure to get the Ethiopian Lager, and wash your hands before you eat! They also have a shrimp option which is unusual for an Ethiopian spot. They were out of a few things but the beets, perils and lamb were the highlights.

If you get the combo, I would just stay away from the chicken or ask to sub it, it wasn’t very good and was clearly geared toward a more sensitive palate.

“Arrived just before 15:00 and met a calosed and locked door. I called their phone number and it rang and rang. We tried knocking and after a few minutes a woman arrived, also tried calling, and began banging on the restaurant window. She mentioned something about Ramadan being the reason they weren't open. Not too long after her banging, someone came to open the door and as we tried following the woman in she closed the door on us. The guy who opened the door from the inside opened the door again and said we could come in. We quickly learned that the woman worked there as she went straight to the back room. Confused and a little annoyed, we sat. My partner and I were the only ones there. A server approached us and said they were only offering three things for the menu, which was different from online. After clarifying that there were indeed only three things on the menu, I ordered the jollof with fish and the goat in peanut soup and rice dish. Before the food arrived, I asked the server if she could turn on the heat, as it was not on. Mind you, this was a Wednesday in February in Harlem. She turned on the heat and the TV, which was played news at a moderate volume. The waters and food came and it was delicious. Plenty rice with the goat and peanut soup, good ratios on the jollof plate. Smaller rice grains than I am used to, but thoroughly enjoyed my plate and taking bites of the jollof.
I appreciated there being a container for washing in the bathroom. I was given $3 back in cash, something about being overcharged on my card? Shrug. No menu so I don't know what the total should have been / what the deal was with that. Overall, I'd go back for the food and hope for being true to opening hours, attending to the phone, and having a menu.“

“I came here around a decade ago. They did not have a buffet back then, as many of the reviews here state. I remember liking this food. The restaurant was empty when it was new, mostly because the neighborhood folks couldn't afford restaurant food. But I noticed a large staff, which gave me the impression of whoever opened this spot, did it with love.

I'm Latin X of Caribbean Colombian and Coastal Ecuadorian decent. I came here to say, many Colombians would be shocked to find what Colombians believed were their cultural foods, right here in a West African restaurant. I remember seeing a whole wall stacked with just bunuelos, Colombian style. When I asked, oh you guys sell Colombian food too? They all looked at me like I was crazy, even though I was standing right next to the bunuelos, slowly realizing, the bunuelo isn't Colombian, it is actually West African as they told me it was their nationality's bread. I just can't remember if they said that bread originated in Uganda or Angola.

I was in the neighborhood, so I looked up places to get Nigerian food and then I found this spot.
I was really excited to try my first jollof rice.
Talking to the owners,
I explain that I would only like to do vegetables and jollof rice, no meat.
They were very understanding and gave exactly what I asked for. Because there was no meat the price was different.

The food was delicious, thank you for a wonderful meal.
When I am done abstaining from meat, I will come back for their fufu and okra soup with goat. I look forward to trying that for the first time as well.“
