“THIS is the place to cater your next affair ! Don’t hesitate, book it now ! My wife and I recently experienced the joy of hosting my son and daughter-in-law’s wedding rehearsal dinner for seventy family members and out-of-town friends. We have been regular customers at Umberto’s Pizzeria for years, next door to the restaurant, getting our weekly Sunday or Monday night pizza pie. Nevertheless, we had never previously ventured into their restaurant next door. What a pleasant surprise ! What a smart decision to book the party here at the renowned Umberto’s of New Hyde Park. The second floor of the restaurant opens up into a spacious, light-filled, warm and welcoming room, big enough to feel like a proper celebration event space. There was plenty of room for our family and friends to mingle and even plenty of space for the several toddlers in attendance to sit and play, and run around. They enjoyed the party as much as anyone ! The catering menu provided a wide variety of choices from appetizers, salads, pastas and main courses from which our son and daughter-in-law selected from to satisfy the preferences of all of our guests. The food was delicious, as we’ve come to expect. Also, thank goodness each table received a Grandma’s Pizza. An affair at Umberto’s isn’t complete without a taste of the Grandma Pizza. The wait staff couldn’t have been any more attentive and solicitous. They were sensational. It’s obvious what a well managed team this is, kudos to Katy and Gaetano. Thank you Umberto’s for making this a most memorable affair. One minor note - The menu, to our surprise, doesn’t include dessert. What’s an Italian meal without a tiramasu, cannoli, or napoleon ? “157 Tavern has been a staple in the area for 10 years and is an excellent choice for parties or group gatherings. You can simply provide them with your budget, and they will curate the menu for you, which makes the planning process very convenient.

Regarding the food:

Grilled Spanish Octopus: Highly recommended. The potato pave is delicious, and the octopus is tender with a perfect charred exterior.

Short Rib with Bone Marrow: The meat is very tender and falls apart at the touch of a fork, though I wish the portion of bone marrow was a bit larger.

King Salmon: Quite tender.

Burrata Cheese: Standard/average.

Caramel Flan: Delicious and beautifully presented.

Overall, it is a great spot for a nice dinner.“

“I went to a family friend’s 70th birthday party they hosted in the Atlantic ballroom. The space was modern and very clean. The food was DELICIOUS!!! And the workers, Yiselle, Estrellita, and Shorty (blonde) made the event so memorable! They paid attention to every detail, whether it was filling our water cups, collecting unused plates and of course they did it all with a warm smile. They were kind, funny and very welcoming. “I picked up food here for the first time and Auntie was so incredibly welcoming. She was happy to let me sample a handful of the dishes they were serving, all of which were delicious.

The oxtail here is just phenomenal. The depth of flavor of the gravy was such a standout. My rice and peas were covered in it and I wish I had more!

The jerk chicken was incredibly tender and the sweet and spicy sauces were a great compliment.

The fresh pine ginger drink is a must have and the homemade coco bread was pillowy soft.

The chef is an absolute pro here when it comes to salinity. The seasoning was spot on for every entree without any lingering saltiness.“

“This place is amazing!!!! I went with my grandmarents for dinner and I orderd the Branzino Francese AND IT WAS DELICIOUS! The garlic linguine went beautifully with the lemon wine sauce and was filling too!

The sevice was fantasic as well, the waitress made sure our table was taken care of very well!

And dont even get me started on the ambiance! this is the perfect spot for a date night, family event, or even if your out with your friends!

“We came here on time for the lunch menu (served until 3), but we were given the dinner menu instead. A few of the items that are on both menus are more expensive on the dinner menu, so it gave us the impression they just wanted us to spend more. After asking for the lunch menu they discouraged it then brushed it off, so we used the more expensive menu rather than make a scene. The Caeser salad with chicken was ok, just a little overdressed. The octopus on the specials menu was tender and tasted good. The shrimp scampi over linguini ($8 more on the dinner menu than the lunch menu) was well-prepared. The NY strip au poivre was more medium than the medium rare we asked for, and the steak was under seasoned. We’ve had better experiences here in the past. It was very off-putting that they did not bring us the lunch menu when we asked for it.“

Today I went for a lobster roll which replaced the shrimp roll. last year this lobster was so delicious 😋 couldn't wait till the summer. unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. it is not longer on a garlic bun and now served on a plain hot dog bun :( also flavorless! last yr price was $24 and now up to $28 with no flavor and blah bun. please bring back the recipe from years before. thanks“

“One of the best Thai spots in the area. The location and interior are warm, fun and authentic. The staff represents the land of smiles with friendly service and good recommendations. My wife and I had the pork buns, fried shrimp rings and the tom yum fried rice with Chinese sausage and crab. I highly recommend all 3 but if you’re in for 1 plate, do the fried rice. We've been here a few times and usually get a few small plates to share and every dish is fantastic, particularly the Spanish meatballs and the fresh calamari! Danny worked with us to create a menu that was tailored to us and our guests and we got SO much food included in the package we did. He also worked with us to create table arrangements that worked best for our event. I was worried at first that the space only being partially private and not a true private room would be an issue but it was not at all! We really didn’t need it and were happy to still get to enjoy the Sinatra singer that plays for the restaurant that night. He even came over and sang for our party and had us dance which was not expected but a fun surprise that we loved! Overall we had a great event here and I am so happy we chose them to host it!“
