“First review of 2024, and we could not think of a better restaurant to review! @buleriataberna has officially become one of our favorites. Every single bite bursts with flavor! • 🥝 Kiwi Mojito 🍲 Calldo Gallego 🐑 Lamb Skewers 🦞 Tres Colas 🦐 Empanadas 🥩 Angus Beef Croquettes 🥩 Churrasco Bravo • I wish we had room for more because every single item was great and the deserts looked amazing, we just physically could not eat anymore! 😂 The vibes were great. Service spectacular! Food amazing. We can’t wait to go back for happy hour and the night life, will do another review of course 😉 - We did get a small dessert which was the Sherry Port. “Went on a friday evening in which Flamenco was playing we made reservations and was seated promptly. Nice decor and vibrant restaurant located in the Best Western hotel. We got the prefix meal and a bottle of wine. Everything was excellent starting with service and following with the food. Entertainment was also on point we had a harpist to beging the evening followed by flamenco couple accompanied by live singer and musician. I enjoyed my evening and appreciated have a cultured dinner close to my home. The maitre d Juan Giovanni always checked upon us to make sure we were okay. Definitely a hidden gem in Queens.“

There is only one truly Spanish - Spanish-owned and Spanish-prepared restaurant in Westchester. Anyone who is Spanish or has lived in Spain knows this.

Tentempie Madrid in Mamaroneck. 🫒

It is strictly a tapas place. Not a tapas bar, because there is no bar seating. They asked me over the phone if they needed to explain what a tapas place is. I answered that I had lived in Spain? Hoping that would satisfy her. I don’t think it did.

If you are craving tortilla, chorizos, aceitunas, gambas al ajillo and croquetas as you would have them for 800 years in Spain, pay them a visit.

There are rules.

Always make a reservation. They will turn you away even if the place looks empty. They have a plan. The place is small and I think it is only the owner up front most of the time. I called at 1pm. They open at 6pm.

The crowd was all non-Spaniards because I don’t think we have too many round these parts and they prob make these dishes at home blind folded. I am Colombian. Having been colonized by Spain made me the most Spanish person in the room besides the owner. 😬

It isn’t a young place to go get your flirt on. There is no vibe. That’s ok because I was there strictly for the tapas, cava and fino.

It is really cute though. There are fun and whimsical details throughout. I cannot believe that I forgot to take a bathroom pic. it was teeny, but adorably appointed.

The only thing that I had NEVER seen in Spain was the sidra served this way (Spanish bitter hard apple cider) served with seltzer, ice and fruit. When I gently inquired about it, he basically gave me a shrug that said… nobody here would drink it straight. He is probably right. I’ll have to travel to Asturias with my dinner companions to share that experience.

We didn’t try the whole menu. I named the dishes that we tried and I feel they nailed.

The prices were nostalgically affordable.

They are not on any “redes sociales” as per the person who took my res. Meaning, NO Instagram or FB for them. This place is like a time capsule from the early 90’s.

You will not feel like you are in Spain. You will definitely feel like you are in Mamaroneck, but if you close your eyes while taking a bite of chorizo and a sip of fino, you might get a waft of cigarettes and hear old men arguing about politics.

(Lastly… those other restaurants that you will argue are Spanish, but aren’t, ARE yummy.)

“I was referred here by my friend who buys food from here often and shared and it's always delicious. My husband and I come from long island as often as we can now because we have never been disappointed with all the food we bought. Staff and owners are wonderful and very welcoming and grateful for our patronage which we love. The portions are great and pleasantly pleased that they include plantains. My absolute favorite is the beef stew, always mouth watering and tender. We will continue to return. Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.“

“I have been eating from here for literal years! My dad introduced me to their food about 10 years ago and I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet.

The food here is consistently flavorful, fresh, and made with love. It doesn’t matter if I eat in the restaurant or order takeout the food here is always a 10/10! My go to order is the Grilled Shrimp Scampi ( Camarones ) with garlic sauce and white rice with beans. My fiancé always orders their Pernil with rice and beans.

If you are thinking of getting food from here, do it! The staff is super friendly and the food is as good as it looks!“

“This place was a godsend when I had a multi-hour layover in JFK after a long international flight early in the morning; it's very easy to get to by AirTrain and saves you from paying airport prices for the McDonald's breakfast menu when you're still on Asian time and in the mood for dinner - in fact it's cheaper than McDonalds' off-airport prices these days. The staff spoke English and were willing to explain what things were; I had a nice cup of coffee, some tasty empanadas and a fried croquette filled with minced shredded chicken and vegetables. It is a great choice for anybody that has a lengthy layover in JFK during a meal time, especially if you need to change terminals and leave the secured area anyway.“

“I was doing some errands in this plaza when i randomly stumbled across this restaurant. I haven’t experienced authentic food in so long and not only was the food amazing the atmosphere was too. As well as the staff was extremely nice and I even spoke to a worker who said they’d been there for 15 years which amazed me because I’ve always lived in the area and never seen this place. I ordered the beef stew and rice and it was PACKED and DELICIOUS. it was also LESS THAN $12 and gave me enough for leftovers and a full stomach. Their empanadas were amazing as well. 10/10 would recommend“
