“This place is beyond delicious. Better than 53rd, better than any halal restaurants in the area. This is the only shawarma I’ve tried in NY that tastes just like my homelands. The flavors are on point!! The meat and ingredients are very high quality. It’s a blessing to have a healthy take out spot that’s open late. I highly recommend the lamb shawarma combo and lamb over rice!! They are very generous with their portions.

“Here's the review Spencer wrote for you: My family and I just visited to celebrate my grandsons birthday- we like to get a bunch of plates and share family style and this menu was perfect for that. You have to get mezze and extra bread (must try the kubane). We also ended up getting three orders of the shishbarak for the six of us, it is way too good! I got the salmon for my entree which was cooked to perfection and beautifully seasoned. Spencer our server recommended the silan and the cheesecake for dessert so we shared those and boy were they something special- I can’t pick a favorite! He brought us a candle and we got some great pictures. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough.“

“I attended a surprise party this Saturday evening. The cuisine was preselected, waiter service was excellent, should receive raises. The table arrangement was very poor. The party was downstairs in one of the private rooms. We were 25 people at one very long table, basically the length of the room, which made it difficult for guests to get around the seated persons at the head of the table on either side. Having two tables would have been a better arrangement, but one long table was not conducive for conversation since we were so far from the other end of the table. The food; not many complaints, I really didn’t have a problem. I didn’t have a lot of food, but it was delicious. The dessert, sorry not very good. Those Famous Crepes(palacinkes) sorry not that great. A lot of crepe and not a lot of filling. The dish was served with fruit, unfortunately this fruit was not in season, so the watermelon although it added color to the dish, upon tasting it, left much to be desired. Why not serve fruit that is in season? No offense to my party hosts who selected my menu for the evening, it didn’t lend itself to the 5 Star Reputation of Dubrovnik’s. I would like to make reservations and splurge on a dinner on my own, I have a feeling I would LOVE the experience! Btw, another plus was the parking!“

“Excellent quality food..easily the best greek/Mediterranean restaurant around. We had babaganoush, sauteed octopus and mixed grill for two. The portions are just right and there was not a single dish that wasnt 10/10. Great service. The place was quiet around 6pm on a Friday and then just exploded with customers. We are happy we just discovered this little gem. And the cherry on top - very inexpensive for what you get. It's tough to beat combo“

“We drove out of town for this restaurant and it was well worth it. The mint lemonade drink has the perfect balance of sweet and sour and the food was delicious. The food is especially perfect for larger crowds that want to share food. The staff are very friendly and fast in getting your order and bringing out the food to you. I also really admired the beautiful decor inside. If we lived closer we definitely would come to this restaurant all the time but since it is a very long drive we still plan on coming at least once a month.“

“We went to Samdan Mediterranean Restaurant on our last day in New York. We went with 2 kiddos under 10 and ordered the chicken nuggets for them. For the adults, we ordered falafel, tabouli and hummus for an appetizer, and both were very good, had lots of flavor though the portions were smaller than we expected and we needed to ask for the Nan bread.

We followed up with the sultan platter for the table, and it came with rice, we also ordered a bruschetta salad. The portion for the platter was more than enough for 4 adults, and it had an assortment of meats, including lamb, chicken. We accompanied the meal with a bottle of red wine and found the pricing and portion sizes to be good for our group.

Overall, great atmosphere and place to have a nice dinner out for a group of adults.“

“Was looking forward to a good gyro. Heard this place was awesome. Hot and fresh. I had a beef/lamb gyro. Came with French fried onions sauce and it. Then tried the peach tea & orange cake. Amazing flavor and great taste full of flavor. They had a fried chicken gyro which took to go. Service was fast and friendly.“

Restaurant was so noisy that we had to shout to our table companions all evening. The imam bayaldi was oversalted and underflavored and pine nuts doled out as if they were diamonds. The shrimp was hard, dry, overcooked, oversalted and flavorless sitting on a bed of gloppy watery tomatoes. Half the lamb kabobs were ok and half were nothing but gristle. Servers were very pleasant, and helpful with wine selection but the wait for our dishes seemed interminable. What was good -- very good --the rice with the lamb kabobs, the rice pudding and the coffee. But too much money for bad (sorry, but that's what it was) food. As I said, maybe we ordered the wrong dishes or maybe it was just an off night.“

The food was delicious. We had a buffet of nine items that everything tasted great and everybody loved it. They were even able to accommodate five people who were gluten-free. The atmosphere was beautiful. The private room was able to accommodate seven tables for me plus a food table and a dessert table and a table for presents. “A shoutout to Effy's Kitchen on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. Recently I’ve taken to looking on the web for restaurants not far from my son’s and daughter’s-in-law apartment and ordering some food specialties to have delivered to them every once in a while. (I moved to Italy four years ago) I know with so many things still locked down in NYC that smiles can get a bit tough to come by. I’ve found spots that have come through with good treats like sweet-potato fries and onion rings, Burrata and Prosciutto with truffle spread on pane carasau, prosecco, special cocktails, craft Pilsners and so on. Last week I did a search for Fish and Chips in the area, found three or four places and came across Effy’s. My son and his wife are super-fans of London and had missed out on a trip there in May so I figured it could be something they’d enjoy — and hopefully buoy their spirits. My only hesitancy was whether their Fish and Chips would be really good and even get CLOSE to what they’ve enjoyed on trips to London. I took a flyer on Effy’s and placed the order for two portions to be delivered as their dinner Friday night. It was delivered on time — and what a great feeling to get their messages afterward: “Oh my gosh it was so good! Thank you. I can't believe how fast I ate it. Lol. Honestly up there with one of the best fish and chips.” And “The fish and chips were amazing. We ate way too fast. It was different with a bunch of smaller pieces as opposed to one large piece but that actually probably helped it stay crisper, less greasy and hotter. We will definitely keep this one in our records.” A Dad who lives an ocean away can only do so much in practical ways, so seeing all this made me really smile.
