“The team from Old Carolina Barbecue Company were at our venue again last night and as usual provided stellar service. This was the second time this summer. In June catering was provided by Joseph, Gavin, Chase and Abby, and last night we had Tanner, Shannon, Chase and Abby. Both times they were timely, efficient and professional, and also added extra services like moving things around to serve appetizers outside, cutting and serving multiple cakes and leaving the kitchen spotless! All these things from a venue's perspective are so important. From the guests' perspective, of course, is the question "was the food good?" Yes it was! So good! They received many compliments. Great job guys! Thanks again!“

“The wife and I made a day trip to Akron to pick up something and thought we’d stop in for breakfast. Very friendly staff. Seated promptly and the waitress reviewed the specials and let us look at the menu for a minute. The owner came out and talked about some of the specials and brought us a sample treat. We ordered a couple of the eggs Benedict daily specials (one was the classic and the other was corned beef). We upgraded the hash browns to Mystic potatoes (cheesy hash browns). Everything was delicious! The cheesy hash browns were phenomenal and the Benedicts were both very good. My wife also got some pancakes which were cooked perfectly! There was enough food to bring some home for tomorrow! Highly recommend!“

“We're not from the area and took a chance on the place. From the outside of the building we were a bit hesitant - located in an older strip center - but inside, it was perfect! Even watched the FIFA game on the monitor close to where we were seated. Service was prompt and friendly. The food portions were larger than expected. One ordered a steak salad and was very pleased; one ordered the pasta salad with chicken and was very pleased. Just go hungry!!! Yes, we'd return when passing thru the area.“

“This place knows how to TCB - you know, take care of business. When marriage and family feel like prisons, you go to a place like this for burgers, meatloaf, and BIG salads. I especially enjoyed my meatloaf. Nice and soft, tons of flavor, maybe tasted like… mmmm, machu picchu. The vegetable rice was also good. So good, I think I saw Newman eating it in the corner (no VILE WEEDS!). Anyway, just glad that Kramer moved on from H&H Bagels, and has decided to run a grill. “Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Prompt service, friendly staff. Food arrived quickly and they were busy. Waitress topped off my coffee multiple times and made sure my order came out correctly. Offered a cup to go as well. Definitely will return. Best service I have gotten at a restaurant in months. “This is a great place to be, the staff and people who are there are friendly and personable. It is my favorite place to stop at when I am in the area doing scuba work for municipalities or just passing by. Our favorite bar tender was out due to surgery, but her replacement was just as accommodating. It is truly a place that you can stop in and feel welcome striking up a conversation with anyone at the bar. Absolutely a great time. I hope to attend a band event someday.“

Amanda has been there for eight years and Anna is training She was a real trooper with our attempts to razzle her. Now for the food. Almost every month they have lobster fest featuring unique lobster dishes. This morning they had posted one of these dishes being fried lobster tail. I have never heard of lobster being fried and knew I had to have this. It was beyond my expectations, absolutely amazing! I expect a small tail but this was far from small. I can polish off lobster tails but in this case I needed a to go box! They also have the best white french dressing I’ve ever had and I’ve tried many. I ordered lobster bisque to go for Scott. Not only did he say it was the absolte est ever (huge compliment because everything is usually just alright to him which is interpreted as good) he was also taken back by how much lobster was in it. Very comfortable, nice restaurant with fantastic servers and outstanding food…which means the chef is a rock star! The building is deceiving from the outside but I assure you when you get inside you will be wowed!“

I tried a bite of hubby's corned beef and cabbage and it tasted better than when I make it. The sauerkraut balls are huge. Very pleased with our experience and will be returning customers.“

“I will be honest, I haven’t eaten there yet but just had the greatest experience that restored my faith in humanity just a little bit. I was in the Akron area for training with TNVC and I assume my iPad was stolen. Today it pinged at someone’s house and then it pinged in the parking lot of the Basement a few hours after I locked it and left a message for the would be thief. I called and spoke with Stephanie, and after explaining what had happened she was king enough to walk to the parking lot while I pinged it. The thief had dumped my iPad in the dumpster, thankfully not too deep. I just wanted to say that Stephanie was amazing for being such a good person and helping someone with no expectation of receiving anything in return. Next time my family and I are in the Akron/waterloo area I will make sure I patronize The Basement if only to help repay a bit of the kindness shown! This is how a neighborhood restaurant does it!“
