“Been coming here for the past +10yrs, recently just stopped by for a quick snack and it reminded me of why this is my to go place for an affordable and delicious meal. The portions are always so generously served, the food is always made to order and most importantly the owners, Tula and Arthur will always make sure that you are taken care of with their outstanding customer service.Just a reminder to either visit the restaurant right before lunch time or it WILL be packed as it’s near a middle school.“

Jerk Chicken and Rice and Peas
Curry Goat

“Very flavourful food from an honest restaurant. This gentleman can cook. I like that I can taste the coconut milk in the rice and peas. Oxtail is great and the gravy is the best part. I went in to for oxtail and he honestly told me they were not ready. He said he could give me some as it was cooked but it wasn't cooked to the right tenderness. That's honesty! He could have served it up and would have spent the rest of the day trying to get meat off the bones, lol.I had the jerk chicken instead and it was great! The stew chicken and curry goat are also excellent. This is my "go-to" for Jamaican food staples like oxtail, curry goat and jerk chicken.“

“What can I say about the AMAZING Selwyn, founder of the Art of Food Catering! For many years, I’ve experienced his fine cuisine and unique takes on Caribbean dishes on various occasions (ie wedding, funerals, community functions)..and each time he knocks it out of the park!! Whenever I’m compelled to ask about the chef, countless times I would see the same familiar face, buzzing about preparing, serving and overseeing his masterpieces. This week, I had the pleasure of celebrating the 85th birthday (..you heard me right!) of the Honorable Jean Augustine, at the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment, catered by yours truly. What was seemingly finger food, turned out to be my first ever “Jamaican Jerk Sliders”…Wickedly good!! (And I’m not ashamed to say, I sampled more than my fingers could handle, lol). I finally met whom I will dub a “Kitchen Hero”, for the many Caribbean communities he’s served over the years. Not only does he have a successful business, but his own cookbook too!!Not sure if there’s a chain of food trucks or an upscale downtown restaurant in his future, but Toronto needs more Chef Selwyn!! But whatever his next move is..I’m here for it!! Bless up??“

Lemon & Allspice Caterers •
6 Overlea Blvd, East York

“My 42 year old niece, who has Down's Syndrome, has worked at Lemon and Allspice for many years. When she got the job with Lemon and Allspice after high school, it gave my niece an opportunity to obtain meaningful employment (no mean feat for those with disabilities in those days) and even more importantly have a sense of purpose and take pride in what she loved to do: bake. I applaud Carolyn Lemon for her foresight in establishing Lemon and Allspice as a workplace haven and much-needed employment opportunity for adults with disabilities.“

“Recently came here for a 5-course farm-to-table cooking class for a birthday celebration. It was the best cooking class I’ve experienced so far. Chef Mathew Sutherland is a seasoned chef, we got lots of pro tips to enhance our skills in the kitchen. However, this is not a hands-on experience for everyone there and if you expect everyone to be chopping or stirring something maybe try a more basic cooking class with a simpler menu. We were impressed with the seasonal ingredients used, wild leeks and fiddleheads. His assistant, Adamo, made fabulous cocktails. This is the perfect cooking class for birthday celebrations, team building, wedding showers or just as an alternative to dinner and a play! The food was delicious! Booking online was also super easy, any queries Chef upstairs is very responsive. Excellent experience!“

“I recently ate at Hutchie Catering while on vacation. This is a Caribbean treasure nestled away in Toronto. When I entered the restaurant, I was met with friendly service and a delicious aroma of spices drifting from the kitchen. The ambiance was appealing, with Caribbean music playing in the background, making me feel nostalgic back to Trinidad. I got a chicken roti (impeccable I must say) and jerk chicken takeout, which tasted even better the next day, much to my surprise. Make sure to purchase a bottle of pepper sauce; it's my absolute favorite and really tasty. I definetly recommend it as a Trinidadian.“

“We really enjoyed our experience at Veggie D’light. I called ahead since we were coming from Oshawa and the woman on the phone was very friendly and helpful. We then travelled to one of our favourite places Kensington Market to this restaurant. They were welcoming and offered us a taste of the soup since we had travelled so far. It was delicious. We placed our order and ordered enough for dinner the next day too! The food was very tasty and loved the roti shell! ( not too hot though and we like the heat) we were offered scotch bonnet sauce but I find that too much. We really enjoyed our food, good portions for the cost. We would definitely recommend and definitely will return!“
