“The environment is comfortable and the restaurant is very clean. Staff are quick, friendly, and efficient.

The portion sizes are much larger than expected. I ordered the BBQ pork on rice, and it was the first time I finished the rice while still having BBQ pork left — very generous serving.

We also tried the fried chicken leg with fries. The chicken leg was literally bigger than my face, with a super crispy skin. The fries were fragrant and well-seasoned.

During afternoon tea hours, drinks are included for free. we tried the red bean ice cream drink and the grass jelly ice cream drink. Both were good and tasted just like they should.“

The macarons come in a variety of characters and flavours – be sure to try them all! For the mini cakes – my faves are the duck in the bathtub (pistachio lemon) and the tirameowsu (tiramisu in a cup with a marshmallow kitty on top). Great service from the staff behind the counter.“

Kabalen is a true gem in North York, perfect for bringing visitors to satisfy their cravings - a home away from home. One drawback though, is the accessibility. The dining area is located upstairs and the washroom is downstairs in the basement. As a result, it is not advisable for wheelchair users to dine in. It was nice to enjoy their reasonably priced lunch menu, we enjoyed the Sicilian (one with turkey and no eggplant) and the Turkey with provolone and jelly. My daughter ordered bow tie pesto pasta di burrata - out of this world fresh and delish! We ordered bruschetta and heated olives/crostini and the maple pecan salad, the dressing was a bit on the sweet side if you don't mind, we found it scrumptious. Desserts were great, cannoli with pistachio filling, chocolate eclair (we think coffee would be better), tiramisu was ok, and best of all of them however was the nutella filled croissant with fresh strawberries, heaven! Happy to go again, and again, and again :-)“

Crispy on the outside and mochi on the inside. It’s like they were popping donuts! The owner was so kind. And he shared with me how they are so serious about fresh donuts that if a donut isn’t sold in the timeframe they are supposed to be enjoyed, it’s thrown out. Guaranteed fresh! “Super cute little cafe! We really enjoyed our drinks. We got the latte donut and the butterfly latte (non-caffeinated). For the donut latte they pour it in front of you, allow you to try it and they add some more. Which I found pretty cool. The staff working was very kind, helped us decide what to get by recommending and patiently explaining. The cafe is a bit small with probably around 10 seats. We came on a Friday at around 2:30 and lucky was able to get a seat. Their drinks are a bit pricey though, the donut latte was around $10 and the butterfly latte was around $7. I believe they are also pet friendly. Would definitely come again, loved the vibes!
