“The environment is comfortable and the restaurant is very clean. Staff are quick, friendly, and efficient.

The portion sizes are much larger than expected. I ordered the BBQ pork on rice, and it was the first time I finished the rice while still having BBQ pork left — very generous serving.

We also tried the fried chicken leg with fries. The chicken leg was literally bigger than my face, with a super crispy skin. The fries were fragrant and well-seasoned.

During afternoon tea hours, drinks are included for free. we tried the red bean ice cream drink and the grass jelly ice cream drink. Both were good and tasted just like they should.“

“Ordered their Hainan Chicken Rice combo. The rice was flavourful, aromatic, gingery, firm and slightly chewy. Sauces that accompanied the rice was strange. The creamy one was more like mayo mustard mix for hotdog/fries. The clear sour tangy sauce was just not good. They were not the right pair for chicken rice. The chicken itself was tasty but nothing special. The cuts were too small and portion was a bit stingy. However the meal combo came with a small cup of HK style milk tea. The cafe was cozy and smelled good from the coffee roaster. Overall it was a good value and taste for a quick meal in a comfy cafe.“

“Ordered the strawberry bingsu and one of the lattes. Both were very good and the large bingsu was enough for two people. It has cheesecake bites in it which was very tasty. I would recommend getting the strawberry cake bingsu to get more cake pieces because they are really good“

I love the oat fudge bars, vanilla cakes/cupcakes, chocolate cakes/cupcakes, custom cakes, both types of quiche, the scones, brownies, spiced chocolate bar, lattes, drip coffee, cookies...geeze I guess I go there a lot. I haven't even tried everything in the bakery yet. It is a wonderful for breakfast, midday treat and dessert after dinner. I stock up on Sunday to have enough to last me until Thursday morning when the bakery reopens for the week. I am having a very hard time sticking to just one item a day. It is great for school lunch treats because it is a nut free bakery. This is important for school staff and students.“

“This is one of my top cafes in the GTA. I would like to gate keep it if I could but the place deserves the recognition. Beautiful nooks to read and catch up with friends. The place has character, with a it’s exposed brick and tons of books to choose from. I like to come here to do some light work. Amazing ambiance. “So… my wife and I have been regulars at this gem of a restaurant ever since we moved into the neighbourhood over a year ago. We’ve always had our go-to favourites—the Truffle Mushroom Pasta (absolutely addictive!) and the Fresh Grilled Salmon (perfect every single time).

But today, we decided to branch out and try two of the Chef’s specials: the Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta and the Sea Bass with layered potatoes. OMG—both dishes were out of this world! Kabalen is a true gem in North York, perfect for bringing visitors to satisfy their cravings - a home away from home. One drawback though, is the accessibility. The dining area is located upstairs and the washroom is downstairs in the basement. As a result, it is not advisable for wheelchair users to dine in. Nonetheless, the establishment maintains a clean environment and is conducive for group gatherings, or for individuals like myself, who just wants to unwind after a days work.“

It was nice to enjoy their reasonably priced lunch menu, we enjoyed the Sicilian (one with turkey and no eggplant) and the Turkey with provolone and jelly. My daughter ordered bow tie pesto pasta di burrata - out of this world fresh and delish! We ordered bruschetta and heated olives/crostini and the maple pecan salad, the dressing was a bit on the sweet side if you don't mind, we found it scrumptious. Desserts were great, cannoli with pistachio filling, chocolate eclair (we think coffee would be better), tiramisu was ok, and best of all of them however was the nutella filled croissant with fresh strawberries, heaven! Happy to go again, and again, and again :-)“
