“If you love bagels, this is a great place to get breakfast. I had an everything bagel with cream cheese, egg, and bacon. The fillings were delicious and plentiful. Great service, nice atmosphere, clean, organized, creative... Coffee was very good too. Location is really close to the Hyatt Regency and Oregon Convention Center. Menu also had panini sandwiches, and other toppings like lox, turkey, ham, sausage, peanut butter, nutella, etc. They have bananas and oatmeal too.“

“Erin made a delicious iced lavender mocha for me in January! I'd like to add the coffee was perfect and service excellent. My friend and I had a rough morning and she really turned it around for us with her awesome personality and smiles. I used to go to Grendel's in mornings when visiting friends in the neighborhood and was pleased to have another good cup of Java there. Stay rockin! ❤“

“We had our daughter's wedding dinner in your event space and have been dying to have another shot at your panacotta and also to dine in the main space. What a treat! You did not disappoint CO. I flew in from Chicago and after a long work trip, I just needed some quality time with the hubby. It was a rainy night in PDX and the smell of the burning wood as we came in was a welcome one. Once seated, our server (beautiful girl with glasses and a big hair clip wearing a Jameson tee--so sorry, neither of us can remember your name) was so kind and gave us the privacy we needed, our food in a timely manner and fully supported my "dessert first" mentality. Thank you for being everything I needed after a long work trip. The pizza, the drink AND that delicious damn dessert was so good, worth every penny and making me want to come back for more. “Some of the best soup I have ever tasted! This is an extremely clean family operated business. The people are great and the soup is homemade, not warmed up canned or frozen commercially produced stuff. Well worth stopping by if you need to take the tram up the hill.“

“I am staying at a nearby hotel while my husband has surgery at OHSU Hospital. I needed an inexpensive coffee and lunch place that I could walk to easily during a heat wave here in Portland. A quick Google search yielded this little deli that is part of Portland State University. I had one of the lunch specials which was a turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich on a croissant. It came with chips and was reasonably priced. I also got an iced soy white mocha (which is in an insulating sleeve I have). Everything was just over $15.00 and was fresh and delicious. The espresso drink was strong (much needed) and not too sweet. As I was leaving, four Portland State University maintenance employees (per their shirts) came in and seemed like regulars . They have a variety of sandwiches including all-day breakfast ones. I might have to go back tomorrow morning.“

“I saw that there was a winter porridge special for Monday, so took the bus over from SE and had some rice porridge for lunch! The porridge itself didn't taste like much apart from rice, but all of the toppings added a lot of flavor and texture. I scraped my bowl clean! Looking forward to coming back another time to try other menu items.“

“We absolutely loved having our 55-person wedding at Bar Carlo. The owner Mel is at the same time very supportive and very low-key, which made for a smooth planning process and day-of event. The space is gorgeous, and has multiple connected wings, which allowed for the the party to morph seamlessly over the night from barside cocktail hour to outdoor patio ceremony to dinner buffet to dance floor. The space is already a beautifully decorated artwork, and Mel lets you decide how to arrange the space for your event, but you can also bring your own decorations/sound system/llama and she can handle those additions easily. The food and drinks were delicious too, and Mel was able to accommodate our entirely vegan and gluten-free menu without hesitation. Overall we loved the unique-ness, flexibility and good vibes of the space and the people of Bar Carlo, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cute and fun space for their wedding or other event. -Nicola & Lou“

“My favorite bagel spot in Portland, everything is delicious and the service is always super friendly. The only downside is there's no prepayment option - you can only call in to order, but then you still have to wait in the line to pay, even if your food's already ready. Worth the wait though, and the bagel sandwiches are my favorite of anywhere in the neighborhood and all of PDX!“
