“If you're serious about pizza in Portland, The Turning Peel belongs on your shortlist. It's the kind of place that earns its reputation quietly, through craft rather than fanfare.
The sourdough crust is the star of the show — and rightfully so. You can taste the care that goes into it. Blistered and chewy in all the right ways, it's the foundation that elevates every pie. The owner's obsessive dedication to maintaining the sourdough mother shows up in every single bite.
In a city with no shortage of excellent pizza, The Turning Peel holds its own among the very best. If you care about the details this is your place.“

“Legitimately some of the best pizza I've had in Portland, and that's coming from someone who's been to almost all of the heavy-hitters in town. Tastes obviously vary, but I don't think anyone who likes wood-fired pizza will leave disappointed.
We started with the fresh baked palloncino bread, which was warm & delightfully chewy with a subtle lemony bite. However, it was super salty (and I say this a habitual over-salter). Thankfully the flaky finishing salt was easy to brush off, which tamed the saltiness. We also had the Belgian endive caesar. The crisp endive mixed well with the creamy dressing & the croutons were out of this world (not shocking, really).
For pizzas, we had the leek & hazelnut and the salami supremo. While the cheese and toppings were top notch, the doughy crust was the star. Perfectly charred, yet soft and chewy. Just excellent.
The tiramisu we had for dessert was also very light and dare I say refreshing.
Service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere left something to be desired, but wasn't bad & didn't diminish the experience at all. Just maybe not quite up to par with other places in that price range.
Overall, a great experience. I will certainly be back!“

“Lombardos is on its way to being a neighborhood institution, the owner is incredibly friendly and is tipping his homage to his New Jersey pizza roots. When I went in they were sold out of everything except their bar pie. A light crispy crust with a zesty sauce and perfectly caramelized cheese. They only prep about 40 or so pies a day but the restaurant clearly has room to expand and for their sake I hope the community floods them with business until they are forced to do so. Truly reaching those east coast roots I highly recommend making the trip into St. John’s for this wonderfully done pie where you will find true beauty in its simplicity.“

“Bar none the best pizza. And because it is the best, there is often a line. I stood in line for 20 minutes before they opened and was about 10th in line. I stood next to a couple from Ashland who makes sure they eat at Ken’s every time they visit. Yeah, it’s that good. Crispy but light and thin crust. Sooo perfect. Worth breaking my GF pledge to eat. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. And yeah, I ate the whole pizza!“

“Because we were notified the pizza was ready many minutes before the pizza was actually ready, it was a little inconvenient to order for pick-up and still have to wait quite a bit. On the other hand, the pizza was piping hot (even after we drove it home) and it was delicious!“

“Lovey place. Ducked in when there was no table at Clyde’s up the street. The hostess saved me and my kids a table as we walked down the hill. The pizza was truly great. Multiple options for sizes & styles. All were really good. Normally a very loyal Pizzeria Otto fan but will now be coming here as well.“

“Pyro Pizza is actually insane: they have a whole brick/wood-fired oven in the back of the food cart so you know it's legit. They specialize in personal-sized pizzas so it's pretty great for sharing and trying the different toppings they have to offer. I also have to shout out the drink selection, since their supplier somehow managed to make a clear cola that tastes just like what you'd expect something like Coke or Pepsi to taste like, but with no artificial stuff. We came here after a recommendation from our tour guide, Ana, over at Around Portland tours nearby and were super happy with the results!“

“Nick was an amazing person and easy to talk to I honestly had already ordered my dinner from another cart and was just bored and was like what is this other cart open this late so I went over and told him I am drunk and bored but make me a customer told him make me whatever you think will make me come back. Hands down my girlfriend agrees the best not just cazone I have ever had but best food cart experience I have ever had. Thank you Nick you nailed it and are now my first stop until someone else can beat you but I am 51 and never gave a food review before. You are the real deal.“

“Fantastic tasting pizzas. Customer service is top notch. Called ahead for 2 pizzas, 1 with custom veg + sausages combo the other had salami. All came out on time. Highly recommend both. Their dough had so much flavor and airy. Not too heavy! Their sourdough needs a little work, too dense but otherwise the crust is perfection!“

“This a great cozy spot with good pizza at a reasonable price. The thin crust is crispy and tasty - i like that you can request a level of doneness if you prefer extra crispy! The sauce is my favorite part i think and all around quality ingredients and toppings. The owners are super nice. It has because a favorite spot and we look forward to checking out the patio when nice weather season returns! Salads and breadsticks are also tasty with generous portions and reasonable prices in a landscape of very pricey pizza spots.“

“The pizza here is great, some of the best around, certainly in Portland. It’s mostly just a walk up, they only have two table settings to dine. If you want to grab and go it’s a great option.
Now I know good food generally costs more money, and I won’t give Scotties 5 stars because a single slice of Pepperoni Pizza was $6.50. On top of that they charge you 20% on every purchase for gratuity. So 7.80 for one slice of pizza. I can’t go for that. I’d rather tip.“

“One of only top artisan pizza place still open on 1st January. We were hoping to get a table but the restaurant was fully booked out.
So we did a take out. The ambience and smell of the place really stood out. We got Funghi and Margherita and both of them was really good. Personally I liked Funghi, my date probably kept deciding till her last bite what she liked more.
I would love to be back here for dine in experience preferably and hopefully with the same company.“
