“Over the past many years since their doors opened. I have had nothing less of the finest, tantalizingly delicious food I have ever had the opportunity to enjoy throughout my life. Having traveled Europe multiple times and sampled some of the finest cuisines throughout. This restaurant stands with the best of them and even above some. The care taken in the preparation and presentation of theit dishes is top tier and that's putting it in short form. Now the service and staff. The level of professionalism and dedication in their staff is unmatched in my opinion. I have never once been not wowed by their attentiveness and warm compassionate energy. Even those I have had the chance to treat them to an incredible evening there have been awe struck. I offer my sincere and honest thanks to all the kitchen staff for their unwavering commitment and dedication to their trade. Not to forget now the unmatched waitstaff who I have had the opportunity and gift to meet and be served by. An unparalleled service and experience from every single one of them. “I solo travel at least once a year and decided to come to Montreal for the first time over my birthday weekend. My first meal/birthday dinner was at Le Vin Papillon and I can’t express what a wonderful experience I had. The mushrooms might be the most incredible dish I’ve ever tasted (I will likely dream about them) and the ham was equally delightful. I sipped on the Martinez Rose (delicious but very strong- do not order if you’re a lightweight). 😂. The staff surprised me with a carrot cake ice cream sandwich and while I don’t typically enjoy carrot cake…this was next level.

More importantly, the staff was superb. They were so welcoming and attentive. I’d love to give a special shout out to Flo- thank you for your kindness and for making my birthday dinner so special.

“What a wonderful find in Old Montreal!!! Patrick was a generous and charming host. We tried a Porto white wine that was new to us and also crudo-that was outstanding, and goat cheese toast with anchovy or sardine on top. The sauce from the crudo was so delicious it demanded bread to dunk, which was gladly provided to us. We are new fan favorites of Portuguese foods we hadn’t tried before and of this place especially.“

“I arrived in Montreal for the weekend with my son and a friend of his for the weekend, and we started walking down Rue St Denis to find some dinner. In late August, the evening air was perfect patio weather, and that was my look for. We chanced upon Le Psy, not truly knowing what we were walking into. I am so glad we did.

I was instantly greeted by JeanYves, and my party sat outside. The QR for the menu was readily available, and my limited French was put to the test. There were some words I recognized from my school days (ok, mainly “fromage”), but Jean Yves was ready to ask us questions to find out what would fit our palette for the night. We settled on two large grilled cheese with a charcuterie board, which shortly came with a lovely selection of find meats and cheeses selected by Jean Yves. The board was filled out with some old mustard (it’s meant to be old…not old in a bad way 😉), pickles, olives, and what I described to my son as “Thanksgiving in a jar”, a spread that as I recall consisted of duck and duck fat, and was delicious!

Over the next hour and a bit, we sat, ate, and were thrilled with the experience that none of us sought out, but Jean Yves, through a love of his craft, delicately and warmly reeled us into.

Could we have gone elsewhere and got a cheap meal? Absolutely. But we would have missed out on this wonderful experience with some bold new flavours and ones that embraced out taste buds like old friends.

Take some time to experience Le Psy. You won’t be upset that you did.

“So, this review is a little different from most, because people often come to a place one time experience a good thing and drop a positive review. I on the other hand expect consistency and I am a little on the OCD side, especially when I travel. That just means I find the restaurants that I like and I have been known to eat the same meals two days in a row. One of the things that stands out immediately to me is that for the most part you have the same staff working dinner or evening shifts as you do the brunch on Saturday and Sunday. This makes for long days but it produces consistency. Timeliness and courtesy are number one for the ladies on the floor. Attention to detail is critical to the men on the cookline, as each plate comes out as an arrangement of food, not simply a pile of ingredients. I was in Montreal for a conference from Friday to Sunday so I was able to eat 2 dinners and 2 brunches, and I have to say they were quite exceptional. I do give the brunch a slight tip of the cap for being more consistent of the two meals and having the best consistency with the Big Brunch, the Americano, and the fresh squeezed juice. It is probably one of the best breakfast/brunches I have had since Verviers, Brussels in 2019. The Big Brunch consisted of fried sunny side up eggs, a sausage, fried potatoes with hollandaise, cubed fresh tomato, sourdough toast, fresh Americano, and fresh orange and grapefruit juice. The flavors work together to complement each other with the eggs having been lightly peppered by the chef and maybe fried in the salty fat from the sausage to give them the right amount of seasoning. Dinner the first day I had a beer and a ribeye prepared medium rare with pepper seasoning and a brown gravy accompanying the pureed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly. The next night I had the charcutier meat with sourdough, which was a nice assortment of the traditional fare one might find. It would have been nice to have found a smaller plate that include both meat and cheese. I did have a bottle of the California 2020 Elizabeth Spencer Cab and it paired well with everything, sometimes a little fruity and others a little spicy depending on how the notes hit the palette. Dinner was the same as the night before, but although the ribeye was ordered medium rare it came out more to medium. That was a little disappointing, but still satisfying in the end. To finish my meal I had the brownie with pecan crumble and sauce which finished off the bottle of Cab perfectly. This morning I had an amazing brunch again, and now I must say adieu as I head to the airport to return home.“

“I chose L'Octo for an afternoon date. The restaurant is lovely, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Our waitress was excellent—very attentive, she answered all our questions, and recommended several great dishes that we truly enjoyed. The food was delicious, and I especially loved the presentation. Being able to share the meals made the experience even more pleasant. The prices are also very reasonable. The only small negative was the parking situation, but overall, I had an excellent evening with great food and company. I definitely scored points by choosing L'Octo!“

“Thai food that comes default spicy!!!! Lots of herbs just as I was hoping for. Our group of friends greatly enjoyed our meal from beginning to end! My husband enjoyed the draft beer. The dessert ---- shaved ice!!!! Soft and pillowy, with lots of fruit and flavours! It just melts in your mouth. The dessert can be shared by 4 people ... or 2 if you love dessert like me.“

“After several visits in just one month, I can say that this café is officially one of my favorites in Montreal, especially for studying? The individual tables are large enough to accommodate 2 computers and there are numerous sockets. The place is also very aesthetic with its high ceiling and its shrubs which bring serenity. The entrance is quite discreet, which enhances the experience. I tried the mocha and the pumpkin spice latte as well as the tomato soup and the grilled cheese, everything is very tasty. The show with the girl on the chains was absolutely the highlight. She was great. The atmosphere is very pretty and engaging. Major complaint is the DJ and music. The entire night the DJ played only lounge electronic, no words in the songs, no trending music. Repeated the same 20 songs. You couldn't dance to any of it. It was so anticlimactic, we left early.“
