“Root is a nice vegan spot in Newport with a simple, comfortable setup and a straightforward menu. Nothing fancy, but it feels welcoming and easy to order from. I had the BBQ jackfruit sandwich, and it was really good. The flavor was smoky and slightly sweet, and the texture worked surprisingly well. My partner tried the Arriva grain bowl, which was fresh and layered with flavor without being heavy. Both dishes tasted well thought out and clearly made with care. The menu has a good mix of bowls, sandwiches, smoothies, and baked items, so it’s easy to find something whether you’re fully plant-based or just looking for a healthier option. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Service was friendly, and things came out at a steady pace. Overall, Root feels like a solid place to go for a good vegan meal in town. “Everything was delicious! We had a smoothie and a smoothie bowl. Very nutrient dense and high quality ingredients which is difficult to find these days while eating out so I truly appreciate that high standard. Highly recommend 🙌🏼“

“We enjoyed having breakfast at this wonderful place while in Newport, RI. The people who own it and those who work there are AMAZING, friendly, and take the time to talk to customers while keeping service at the top of their list. They (from the kitchen to the front door) look like they love working there and have created a loving family environment. Of course, the line was out the door and down the street, but that was okay because everyone enjoyed visiting each other. There is just one warning, the portions are enormous. You know when my husband can't finish it, it's a lot. 🤣“

“We just enjoyed a late lunch that was absolutely delicious! The lobster bisque was a great starter but the lobster Mac and cheese was the BEST we’ve ever had. Giant chunks of lobster were buried amongst the creamy noodles. We shared the lobster dish and it was plenty. \nThe fresh cod/ Fish-n-chips was also excellent, flaky light white fish. We waited 45 mins for our table, while sipping hot spiced cider - the food was well worth the wait.“

We had become acquainted with Basil when we were all involved with a Boy Scout Troop in Manchester NH. We were disappointed to discover that Basil wasn’t at the restaurant, however we got over it when we found out it was due to a commitment to a fundraiser for the James Beard Foundation. Ordering was easy, Steph ensured we had a great variety and enough to feed the post-wedding crowd. We did have breakfast here and it was stellar! The large wraparound deck is so cute & cozy, like a farmhouse porch. & the coffee 🤩 I had a tiramisu latte last time, a cherry Garcia latte this time- I was not disappointed either time, the flavors were accurate without being overwhelming or weakening the espresso, & oh so delicious. The food is even better; the attention to detail & balance of flavor in the dishes is off the charts. The food and drinks were delicious, and they were very accommodating to changes to ingredients of dishes. My only criticism was the size vs price of my main dish. “Best lobster tacos !!! The Management went above and beyond with their service. I had forgetfully left my (newly purchased) red parrot baseball cap under our table. We were visiting Newport, RI from the Northwest and chose to dine at the Red Parrot restaurant because of its excellent reviews. I called the next day about my cap, explaining that we had already left the city. To my comfort, the Red Parrot restaurant mailed my cap along with a bonus - a large Red Parrot T-shirt for my husband. What restaurant here in the Northwest would do something like that ?“

Our varsity team was playing nearby at St. George’s Arena, and she was incredibly friendly, professional, and responsive while taking our order. We placed a very large order, and everything was handled perfectly. The food was delivered exactly at the time we requested, and every item was clearly labeled just as we asked, which was especially important because of food allergies on the team. Sat next to window - but cold air coming thru the window made things terribly uncomfortable - had to put on our Canada goose coats to stay warm. We requested a move to the front tavern room - which we were graciously accommodated. Service and food in the tavern was excellent. We've been going to the BP for more than forty years - one of our favors in Newport. We especially like the ambience of the tavern room. Mussels and chowder are the best. But please forego the back room in winter - unless you like attic weather.“
