“China Grill: A Hidden Gem in Salt Lake City Surpassing ExpectationsComing from the San Francisco Bay Area, where there's no shortage of excellent Chinese cuisine, I naturally have high expectations for Chinese food elsewhere. During our visit to Salt Lake City, we stumbled upon a modest eatery named China Grill. Despite its unassuming appearance and the food's ordinary presentation, we were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional taste that far exceeded our expectations, making our dining experience truly unforgettable. We ordered a variety of dishes, including Singapore rice noodles, spicy beef, sour and sweet soup, and egg drop soup. Each dish was remarkable for its authentic flavor and quality, particularly the chicken in the Singapore rice noodles, which was exceptionally soft and tender—a rarity in many places. Curious about this, we learned from the owner, Mr. 颜章, that the secret lies in marinating the chicken in a mixture of soda and water for several hours or overnight. This meticulous approach to ingredient preparation showcases China Grill's passion and dedication to cooking.More than just serving delicious meals, Mr. 颜章 was incredibly welcoming, sharing with us not only his cooking secrets but also recommendations for local attractions and his personal stories. In a world dominated by fast food and convenience, finding a place like China Grill, where there's a genuine love for food and a willingness to engage with customers on a personal level, is truly rare. For anyone visiting Salt Lake City or locals in search of the essence of authentic Chinese cuisine, China Grill is a must-visit. It's not just about the food; it's an experience filled with warmth, shared stories, and delightful flavors.Updated: we came back on the second day. 干炒牛河 and kung pao chicken are good too.“
“We ordered take out. Really fast service, clean restaurant. 4 stars for that. The food is decent, fresh, typical American Chinese food. However, the garlic beef had a very strange smell, not rancid, just kind of like chemicals or something...I could not eat it. Beef should not smell like that. I am giving all the leftovers to someone else. Not interested in reheating any of it or having it again. Worth a try.“
“Their food has gotten so much better since they first opened! I've only tried the jjampong (recently), black bean noodles (recently), and tangsooyook (not too recently), and the noodle dishes were really good! I've been making a stop here before going to Grizzlies hockey games. The only thing that made me ? was when I got yelled at for sitting at a table before ordering. Apparently at this restaurant which does not have table service, you have to order first at the register then get seated. Maybe there's a sign that I may have missed? ?♀️“
“The food was awesome!! I couldn't stop eating even when I got full because it was so good! I was skeptical at first because it's by a gas station but it's actually a nice clean place where you can sit and eat inside or take out. My husband and I ordered a lot and we were not disappointed. Reasonable price and very good food im glad this place is nearby now I know where to go when I'm craving Chinese cuisine!“
“We were sightseeing in Salt Lake City, not expecting to find the best Asian food, and I can definitely say this is one of the best noodle spots of all the restaurants I've tasted in the Bay Area, San Diego, and even China. The broth is complex and delicious, and you can tell they use a lot of different spices. At the same time, it's not greasy at all, so you can drink the entire bowl after you eat the noodles. I got the braised beef rice noodles both times I visited, and even my husband, a Chinese native, was impressed by the broth. The restaurant is small and homey. Service is very fast, and you are expected to clean up after yourself (so no tip is expected). I recommend getting here early and/or during off peak hours because it can get pretty busy--especially on weekends. Parking can be tricky to find during rush hours.“
“We went for a late lunch today, sadly to close to 3pm when they close, they close from 3pm to 4pm., but still were taken care with kindness. We had Wonton Soup, Pot Stickers, General Tso and Fried Rice. Food was amazing, I enjoyed the Fried Rice ? a lot. Good customer service, restaurant is really clean.“
“This place is sooooooo good. The service is always friendly, they are always coming around to see if you want more broth or meat, and every single thing in their food bar is delicious. It's almost annoying how good the fries are, because you don't go to hot pot for french fries, but even those are solid. I love coming here after a long run or a day of skiing. I have talked up this restaurant to every single person I can and honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm stealing from this restaurant based on the price of it. I can't get over how good of a deal it is!!“
“The food is very good, but the service is not, an older lady with glasses serves very poorly, there were 5 of us who went to lunch from work and one of the boys brought lunch, we asked the lady to allow her to heat up her food and let her If necessary, charge a fee for heating, even though we were going to consume 4 more people, the lady refused and sent another waitress not to help. The colleague had to go out to eat cold food in the car. Terrible service and total lack of humanity“
“Food is very authentic and tasty. It is also on the spicier side so beware of the heat. BBQ is on point and the fish is a must. There is a lot of carbs and veggies underneath the fish and it's a big dish.Parking is easy and there's plenty of space.Good spot!“
“Love Sasa Kitchen! I've had it many times (way too many haha), and I can't think of a time it disappointed me. My favorites are the Green Onion Pancakes, Sesame Balls, Spicy Chicken Gizzards, Spicy Tossed Noodles with Beef & Ground Pork, Chinese Spicy Bone Soup.“
“Sean was the best server I've had in a long time. Genuinely the nicest and most professional server I've had in years. Food was great, atmosphere is what you expect at PF Chang's with an overall chain feel but all in all, a great experience. Will absolutely be back for more.“
“Great Pho, totally worth it to get the big one if you're sharing with someone else. I love the brisket and beef one. I also love the cream cheese wontons, they're crispy, well filled and super important: they're not oily. Never ate it at the restaurant itself, but pickup orders are always ready super fast, and the delivery orders were always hot for me.“
“awesome place. i went here to try the dim sum, super good. i stepped outside my comfort zone and had the golden sand buns, chicken feet, beef tripe, and spare ribs—all of which were amazing. my family ordered the chow mein (was spaghetti, i believe), as well as beef & a few meats if i recall correctly. their hot & sour and veggie soups were great too, not to mention their wonderful and large wontons. biggest i’ve seen so far. the shanghai dumplings and bbq pork buns were also great. this place has a wonderful dim sum selection, even when the cart isn’t going around. the atmosphere was a tad lacking though—i wish there was perhaps more music playing. anyway, good chinese food place with (what i believe to be) pretty decent authentic options. i’d come again.“
“All,Our attendant was a young man named Treven…. Without a doubt the kindest most genuine person I have dealt with in a long long time. I came in after a very difficult week. Everything about him was kind, professional and he single handily turned my day around. I hope these reviews get to “those that make decisions” as this young man was definitely 5 STAR. You guys better hang onto him! Very rare nowadays!!ThanksJason Ashment“
“The salted egg dessert bao is to die for. Chocolate dough and creamy egg. It's the perfect slightly sweet easter egg. This special dessert bao is only available in April so run, don't walk, to get one or more. The salted egg bao takes a few minutes longer than the other bao, but it is so worth it.“
“This is one of my absolute favorite places to eat! I love getting the all you can eat grill option. Getting to put together my own custom stir fry is so fun! The veggies were fresh, noodles and rice cooked well, and I love getting to mix my own sauce. The meats were delicious and generously served. We tried the spring rolls and they were so good too! It's definitely more of a hole in the wall place but that's where the best food usually is!“
“This place has an amazing dining area and a beautiful vibe. The server was very quick and super kind to all of us. The drinks were phenomenal and the food was even better. Thank you P.F. Chang’s, life changed.Kid-friendliness: They were very helpful to all ages. They were very kind and extremely helpful.“
“First impression: dog bowls. LOL. My husband and I came in for lunch without any idea what to expect. This place has a different twist in their noodles: you order a dish, then get served a tray of "ingredients" (or toppings?!) + a noodles bowl (no broth) + a big boiling broth bowl. The broth bowl, which is where you dump everything in to eat out of, was what we thought looked like a dog bowl lol. The portion of noodles are quite big. And the soup was very flavorful. Typical nonchalant Asian style service. Big dining area. Overall a good meal!“
“I went to Red Lotus on 3/30 with a friend of mine and it was a little cloudy so we didn't know if the patio was open. We had two dogs with us so outdoor seating was a must. Luckily, they were and we enjoyed light rain on their patio. The food was amazing and I want to personally call out Genaro, our server. He was amazingly awesome!!! He deserves a raise, keep up the good work Red Lotus!!!!“
“Amazing food! My family and I have loved everything we have tried here. The Hot Mongolian Beef is my favorite! The House Special Lo Mein is superb as well. My kids love the Chicken in Orange Flavor! Highly recommend! The family who runs this place is super nice!“
“Place was well put together. Food tastes amazing, dishes are well thought out, place appears externally clean. Old building evident. Also fix the broken window, it makes the building look run down. Fish aquarium and decor was pretty and well planned. Service wasn't necessarily fast or consistent, kinda average friendliness. Food was just a 10 tho great job.“
“We go almost weekly. They have a great mix of dishes, both stuff that reminds us of food we ate growing up in Beijing, as well as more westernized Chinese food. Their sweet and sour chicken is the best I’ve ever had. Make sure you order a vegetable, they do remarkable things with a simple stir fried bok choy. The potstickers are also great.“
“Everything about this place was fantastic. The drinks were wonderful. Each one of us had a different beverage and they were each very tasty. We ordered the fried spring rolls and Mushu pork. Perfect portions for lunch. The chicken fried rice was very tasty with just the right amount of food that we all enjoyed. We would certainly eat here again and I would recommend this place to anyone coming in for a nice lunch or dinner. The service was fantastic and the ambient music was even better.“
“A wonderful noodle restaurant! A nice variety of dishes. Fast and friendly service. Delicious noodle dishes; hot and very tasty!Parking: Parking lot is shared with other businesses but with patience, there's a space.Wheelchair accessibility: Ample tables for a wheelchair customer. Didn't use the restroom to substantiate handicap accommodatng.“
“I was in the area visiting a friend and we ended up eating there two days in a row. The chicken is very good tasting white meat and the shrimp doesn't have an over bearing fishy flavor. The lunch menu you seem to get more of a sample of all their foods and supper is more ala carte. I highly recommend.Had sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour shrimp, cream cheese won tons, crispy chicken chow mein, ham fried rice, egg rollWheelchair accessibility: Pushed a transport wheel chair and walker in and they kindly moved it to a safe location out of the way. Allowed us to put 2 tables together“
“My daughter and I ate at J Wongs on our final day in Salt Lake City. This place is very good! This was our first experience with a robot food delivery server!! Very cool technology and it made for a memorable experience! The food was very good and the portions were very generous. I had the Drunken Noodles and my daughter had the sesame chicken. Both were excellent and service was spot on! Skip the egg rolls, they were dry and not great. Regardless, We will be back!!“
“Ordered online and it was the most delicious Chinese cuisine me and my husband have had it’s going to be our regular now. Everything is seasoned and perfect flavors melt in your mouth thank you so much for making such amazing quality foodThe chicken fried rice, beef Lo Mein, and Pon Pon chicken were the best and HIGHLY RECOMMEND ?“
“The food is fresh and nicely presented, amazing that it is prepared so quickly! We knew Jimmy from Teriyaki Boy and followed him here. He is so friendly and helpful. Our favorites are the Salmon and Broccoli Hibachi and the Steak and Chicken Hibachi.“
“I was so impressed! My friend took me here and I was amazed! The food was super yummy and really affordable! I was able to get miso soup, fried veggies, salad, steamed veggies, California roll, jasmine tea, and cheesecake for 17 dollars! 10/10 will recommend and I will be back for more!“
“One of the best Mongolian chains across the USA and the best execution of that chain in utah imop.Prices are super fair in my opinion and the service is incredible. Seriously tip the men over the hot grill making your food idk what’s up with utahs weird tip culture, if you think man I wouldn’t want that job does it kill you to throw some dollars in the jar at the end? PROTIP: the hostess will get you change so you can tip the cooks.Great variety in the food types and high ceilings as well makes a very vibrant dining experience.I in particular love 4 things1. Diversity in meat from shrimp clams muscles imitation crab beef chicken etc2. Diversity in types of noodles I prefer the thin yellow ones3. All the fresh vegetable choices4. The sauce diversity is great look at the cards that describe different combinations. Also Megan Is an incredible waitress I Remember her from the previous time we went she served like 15+ tables idk how she does it but she’s great.Parking: Amazing bring your big truckKid-friendliness: Kids eat free under 3“
“Canton Wok is the best!!! My boyfriend and I went and ordered the cream cheese wontons, Peking Spare Rib combo, and the Kung Pao Chicken combo. Everything was fresh and delicious! The kung pao chicken is my favorite because of the peanuts and vegetables (and the spiciness), but a very close second goes to the ham fried rice included in the combo as no one has better fried rice than them! Staff is amazing and super kind, and the food portions are great with the prices.“
“My family has gone here for over 25 years. It is our favorite Chinese restaurant & where we go for special occasions! I love the taste of everything I've ever ordered but usually end up getting my favorite dishes, all vegetarian with soy 'chicken'. They also offer meat dishes, so any meat eaters can get what they want as well. When I'm buying, everyone eats veggie, but my meat-eating kids don't mind because they love the soy 'meat'!My favorites (all soy chicken) Moo Goo Gai Pan, Mu Shu Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken. Also veggie Won Ton Soup & Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls. My kids also like the Hot & Sour Soup, & the beef & seafood dishes.Vegetarian options: There is a complete separate vegetarian menu as well as a separate meat menu. A lot of variety to choose from. This is the only place I've ever found that does a perfect vegetarian Sweet & Sour Chicken!“
“For a hole in the wall restaurant, with Styrofoam dishes and plastic utensils, the food is not that bad.It makes more sense to take the food home than to eat it there, which is what 95% of everybody who came after us did. And they were quite busy fulfilling many take out orders.“
“We go here about once a month. The food is good but avoid the soy sauce. It's very salty. The prices are fair and there's enough to feed a family of four for two days. We usually order Chicken Chow Mein, Chicken lo Mein, Chicken Fried Rice, and Egg rolls.Sometimes we like to get the Walnut shrimp or the Orange Chicken. For all this food, it costs around $42 for four adults. (About 10 dollars each yielding 2 meals for each of us. The Walnut Chicken is really good but a little higher in price. The atmosphere is typical for the venue, not exciting but certainly adequate.Kid-friendliness: Very casual“
“Great experience. Traveling from Texas and stopped in this hidden gem.We ordered the Tai Chien chicken and Beef Pho with pork spring rolls.I have never had such wonderful asian food in my life.I only hope i will find Tai Chien that tastes this good again but likly won't.The dark red/brown siracha sauce is more of a sweet heat flavor fyi. Very delicious on the rice and wonton chips! You won't be disappointed here.“
“One of the more authentic Chinese restaurants in SLC. Their dishes are more sichuan style, more spices involved. My favorite dish here is the steamed chicken in chili oil. The chicken is tender and the chili oil isn't too overpowering but yet adds a spicy kick.“
“Surprisingly excellent food and variety for a very reasonable price. I enjoyed the seafood, prime rib, Mongolian BBQ, and variety of veggies. The meatloaf was tasty I don't eat sushi, but there is a large sushi bar. I also don't eat desserts, but there was hard as well as soft serve ice cream, a chocolate fountain, cotton candy and a variety of other things. I would definitely visit this again if I was in the area!“
“This has to be the best restaurant! The only thing better than the quality and quantity of the food is the absolutely delicious taste and the meticulous and beautiful presentation. The atmosphere is clean and welcoming, and the service is friendly and helpful. Worth the experience“
“Visited Mings for the first time today. No lunch crowd as you would expect. Mostly regulars would be a great place if you’re in a hurry and don’t want to wait, we were seated right away. quaint little restaurant I’m fried rice was wonderful I don’t like vegetables in my rice so it was perfect because they don’t put it in there a Clara soup and hot sour soup. We’re both equally delicious. Definitely recommend this place for lunch.“
“HIDDEN GEM! It doesn't look like much, but the personalized service and OMG the FOOD are prime top contenders in SLC. Best general Taos in the city. I liked it so much that I went for the seafood platter (a dangerous game at home-in-the-wall Asian cuisine). It was FRESH and prepared with the utmost care. What's CRAZY is that you could order during dinner rush or pop in at 3am and get the same quality. It's significantly better than competitors that charge 3 times as much.“
“If you’re looking for some good soup when your throat is sore, I recommend the Szechuan wonton soup not too spicy but perfect? cured my throat instantly. It looks like it was only 1 lady running the restaurant but she put in 101% on the service and food. I will be returning again soon ?“
“This is my first time being here and it's a great place. They had a variety of Chinese American options as well as authentic Chinese food. I had their diced chicken with hot chili, orange chicken, lamb hot pot, and sizzling beef tenders. Staff was amazing and very friendly. I will definitely come back and recommend this place to others.“
“One of the best viet spots in SLC, never had a bad meal here and even friends from our of town love it. Menu is very extensive with so many options to choose from. My favorites are the roast chicken (fried basically) egg noodles soup, wonton and cha siu egg noodles soup, and combination rice dish are all great. The sweet and savory mini pancake shrimp with coconut milk is really good and not found in many places. Def recommend when in the area, with many other food and dessert options in the chinatown supermarket complex.“
“We have been there a couple of times. Plenty of seafood, chicken, and beef—all with a Chinese style. The food quality is good for the price. I was excited about their sushi, but it did not taste well. The service is good. It is one of a few open buffets that does not have a soda fountain. Their deserts and fruits could be better. Overall, it is a good place to eat if you are hungry and want a variety of food.“
“For the price paid, $11.99 adults, the food variety was very good. Not as much Chinese cuisine as I would have expected, but Mongolian Grill had 2 full double sided tables of ingredient options. The sushi bar had about 8 options including tuna, salmon & shrimp sushi. The seating was nicely spread out so I didn't feel like other guests were sitting too close to me. I like a secluded feel. The staff were friendly & attentive keeping my table clear of used plates & giving me drink refills before running out.“
“The deco is nice, service is friendly, food displays nicely, but I'm not really sure about the food. If you're looking for authentic Chinese dishes, this is not the right place. However, if you are more into the look & feel, great location, then this could be the place!“
“I've eaten at Ho Ho' for 25-years. And today was no different. Food is great! If you want good Chinese food for a reasonable price. Don't worry about the building, check out the food! You will be glad you did! Don't take my word, find out yourself...“
“FOOD: Amazing flavors and just great! This place reminds me of childhood. I always purchased good Chinese back home in California. It was in a mall too and this place reminds me of that. Authentic flavors and the service is always great to me.“
“It's good, cheap Chinese food. There's nothing fancy about it, but the vegetables were cooked perfectly and the food was hot. I got the Mongolian beef and sweet and sour chicken combo with ham fried rice. The Mongolian chicken was perfectly spicy and the sweet and sour chicken was delicious. The rice wasn't bad, but it didn't seem like there was a ton of effort put into it.It's not somewhere I would travel real far for, but I'm glad I found a local Chinese place I like.“
“I hadn’t been to this restaurant for many years. Tonight we tried two dinner combinations. The chicken with snow peas, beef chow mien, ham fried rice, fried shrimp, cream cheese wontons, hot and sour soup and egg drop soup were all great and much better than I remember them being in the past. In fact the only item that I didn’t think was excellent was the egg roll. It had a bit of an odd flavor. Service was friendly and the prices were fair.“
