“This Japanese restaurant is truly one of my favorites! The food is always incredibly fresh — from the sushi to the salads and soups, everything tastes perfect every time. The hospitality and service are top-notch; the staff are always welcoming, and the manager is extremely nice and friendly.

I go there at least twice a week, and every single visit feels special. I’ve never had just an “okay” experience — it’s always amazing! Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves delicious, fresh Japanese food and great service.“

“Born and raised in Japan, I am pretty judgmental when it comes to any establishments claiming to be “Japanese.”

I had miso soup ($4), Toro Bowl ($28) and hot tea ($3).

Toro Bowl: I was not impressed, but definitely this dish was not disgusting like some other fake Japanese restaurants serve. Ikura wasn’t the freshest, and the three sheets of nori (sea weeds) were stale (thus making it chewy rather than crispy) and tasted very cheep. Overall it was “Okay”

Miso soup: I was pleasantly surprised with how they have used decent amount of dashi in their soup (like how they do it in Japan), giving it an authentic twist. The soup was flavorful and I enjoyed it.

Tea: this was another pleasant surprise to receive what it mocked as Genmai-cha (tea with roasted rice bits in it). Well done.

From what you get in DMV area, I’d give a 4 stars or even 4.5 stars. As an overall “Japanese” izakaya, I’d put this in 3 stars range.“

“I’ve found a new favorite Japanese restaurant! Real Japanese food made with actual Japanese ingredients, not the same as the stuff you find in mall food courts or at that [FAST]way chain joint. Best house salad I’ve ever had at a sushi restaurant. Then we both had rolls that were amazing! Joanne was our waitress and she was so kind and efficient. “Sarku has been around for several years at this location. It’s convenient when shopping at this shopping center or if you’re out and about and are looking for a good meal.

The staff was friendly and helpful when ordering. You order at the register and then your food is brought to the counter for you to pick it up. There isn’t a wait staff.

There are two entrances to Sarku. I didn’t get photos of the other entrance, but will take photos the next time.

They do play music from a radio station or satellite radio, but it wasn’t too loud for me and I liked the genre they played.“

I've been here about 10-15 times now and each time we leave happy, well fed and normally with a little snack/to go box with our leftovers. BUT - the atmosphere is horrendous. It feels like a hospital service hallway in there. All the light bulbs are cool white with no shrouds, there's no music, and the booths don't have padding. I don't know how the workers stay sane. I can't stand sitting in the place long enough to get takeout.“
