The rye bread was toasted perfectly, the sauerkraut was tangy, the smoked tempeh was a delicious stand in for corned beef, and put together with the dressing and the cheese it was melt in your mouth delicious. “We had our wedding at the Commentary on 5/31/25 and we could not be more thrilled with our experience. Olivia Martel and Chef Fran were PHENOMENAL to work with. Anything we wanted, we got. We wanted a low key, chill wedding, and decided on stations and the pasta bar with a plethora of appetizers and the execution was a 10/10. We loved having the whole bar and restaurant to ourselves in Ballston and welcoming guests from across the country and being in the Commentary’s/Westin’s care. They took really great care of us and we couldn’t be more grateful for the most beautiful day of our lives.“

“I came to Astor after a long day of work to eat and decompress, and I was greeted with so much hospitality and kindness. I was gifted lentil soup along with a complimentary pastry to eat with my espresso. This experience was one of my favorites. It was such a blessing to experience the kindness of others in such an unexpected way. The falafel pita was so fresh and delicious, the fries were just right. The espresso had such a smooth flavor as well. I’m very impressed and will definitely return in the near future.“

"Where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came." Just add terrific live music, great acoustics, and the best dance floor around! Truly impressive across the board - friendly, welcoming and FUN. Pete, Kelly and their team are true professionals; they love their work and make sure everyone feels welcome. Pete personally goes from table to table - when he's not joining the band/playing guitar! Kelly is wonderful, kind, warm, and consistently books the BEST bands around. Bartender Bo is indeed "super cool" and funny. Servers Mario and Andrea are helpful, attentive, efficient, and keep everyone very well-fed. Chef Pete (different one) regularly impresses with tasty appetizers, entrees, salads (Greek is a fave), desserts, and more. More than worth a visit - keep going back! I'm proud to be a regular (OK - groupie/super-fan) and my nights at Pete's are true weekend highlights. “My wife and I had lunch here earlier today and it was awesome! My half-price blue moon burger was excellent. High quality beef that was cooked to perfection. The Wrangler grilled salmon was was not overcooked and ithad great flavor. And my cup of cowboy chili really hit the spot. 😋. We ordered Texas barbecue brisket and another burger for takeout, and I’m sure both of those will be great as well. Thanks Karen for the great service!“

“We were looking for a good brunch with bottomless mimosas and we found this gem. Mimosas are on point. The food was good but I jusT wish they had a few more traditional brunch options. The atmosphere is lively and fun. The space is on the smaller side but I will return.“

“I was in town for work and my cousin that lives in the area swore up and down that this is the best Ethiopian restaurant around. When we got there on Valentines evening, place was packed! Wait was over an hour, and our host Edilawit (great service) called us as soon as bar seats opened up…Waited quite a while for the meal(a star down for that), but meat combo was fire! Combo comes with kitfo (ethiopian beef tartar), gored-gored (cubed rare beef), Gomen be’siga (collard greens and beef) and tibs (stir fried beef) Yum!!! Meat eaters dream. I was doing a little dance in my seat after each bite. I didn’t care for the gored-gored, but the other three were best I’ve had in a long time. What made the whole experience even more enjoyable was feeling like I was truly in Ethiopia with all the Ethiopian patrons there (99%), this is also how one knows if a restaurant is truly authentic;-)

“Whiskey selection is amazing! So many kinds to choose from, as well as a very good selection of cocktails in general. The food, tho limited options, still provided a variety, and was very tasty. Service was pretty slow, and despite having 2 gentlemen coming to our table to check on us, both would forget what we asked for so we’d wait a long time to receive it. Overall though, definitely a place I’ll return multiple times to!“
