“I hosted a friend’s birthday party at ShipGarten and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From start to finish, the staff was absolutely amazing. They made the entire planning process easy and stress-free, with clear, quick, and efficient communication every step of the way. They were incredibly accommodating. The food was great, my favorites were the funnel cake fries and the guacamole. The Cider was delicious!!! The venue itself is fantastic for hosting events, and I highly recommend ShipGarten for birthdays, gatherings, or any special occasion. One of the things I love most is that they also host dog-friendly events, which makes the place even more special! I had an amazing time and will absolutely be using ShipGarten for future events!!!“

“I think Old Ebbitt Grill are one of the best grill joints around Washington and they got the most warmed atmosphere and I also enjoyed their service a lot. We loved having the whole bar and restaurant to ourselves in Ballston and welcoming guests from across the country and being in the Commentary’s/Westin’s care. Additionally, my host gave me a tour of the club that is the Gilded Age was a magnificent and respendid private residence. The home's previous owner is captured in a John Singer Sargent portrait. There is a great deal of American history in the Cosmos Club. I look forward to my next visit.“

“Excellent service. They made our valentines day. We took a chance and dropped in hoping for a seat at the bar which initially looked like it wouldn't happen. Timing and a great manager and hostess made it happen. Takoyaki and dumplings were superb. We loved the lychee martinis. The speakeasy vibe downstairs is quaint and welcoming. “I came to Astor after a long day of work to eat and decompress, and I was greeted with so much hospitality and kindness. I was gifted lentil soup along with a complimentary pastry to eat with my espresso. This experience was one of my favorites. It was such a blessing to experience the kindness of others in such an unexpected way. The falafel pita was so fresh and delicious, the fries were just right. The espresso had such a smooth flavor as well. I’m very impressed and will definitely return in the near future.“

“Here's the thing: go to McClellan's right now.

The drink menu captures the alchemy that happens when talented bartenders who really know cocktails also don't take themselves too seriously. In other words, your drink will be banging, but it might come in a Yoda tiki mug.

Note that the food menu is limited. That's relevant if you haven't had dinner, you have more than one drink, and you're planning to work tomorrow. Ask me how I know. So order more than one plate of charcuterie. Or ask the bartenders to make you something NA, which they're also good at.

Finally, do your event at McClellan's. I had my birthday here and it was so straightforward. Brian was easy to work with over email and the bartenders for the actual event (shout to Chris and Carlos!) were as great as I hoped.
