“We’ve eaten here about 5 times now I think and I specifically waited to make my review until we had been a few times at least. The consistency of this place is on point, which is amazing because we’ve been trying to find a good take out place for a while now where we knew it would be good every time and this place has got it going on. Their food is amazing. This is the only place we go for Chinese food now and we even drive 40 minutes to get here it’s that good. We personally love the beef lo mein, beef and broccoli and the sesame chicken.“

“Everything was great. There's no real atmosphere to speak of. It's just kind of like a take out place. The cashier was great, excellent customer service, didn't try to rush for me, and assisted me with a question outside of their business. Real cute too. I guess that's not really needed but hey that cute face can definitely brighten your day.“

“I haven’t always had the best luck with Chinese food in the Hampton Roads area, especially in Portsmouth, but China Ocean has consistently been one of the better options for us.

We’re vegan, so I can only speak to the vegetable and tofu dishes, but we’ve ordered from them several times and it has always been solid. Nothing overly fancy, just good, reliable Chinese takeout.

But our most recent order was on another level. We got the vegetable lo mein, vegetable fried rice, mixed vegetables, and General Tso’s tofu, and everything was amazing — hot, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It wasn’t just “good enough”; it actually felt inspired.

I don’t know what changed in the kitchen, but whatever it was, they need to keep it up. Someone put some real care and love into that food. They put their foot in it, as they say.

Definitely the best experience we’ve had with vegan-friendly Chinese takeout in Portsmouth.“
