“Fine dining, excellent food and friendly professional staff.”
“I was expecting the meal to be good, but not THAT good. Everything was outstanding. The chili crisp burrata was a must-get appetizer as well as the roasted olives which were so warm and buttery… chefs kiss. Both pasta dishes we got were perfectly cooked, brilliantly flavored, and proportioned beautifully.
Also a huge shoutout to the bar for having $5 mocktails! The bartenders made me the most delicious mocktail I may have ever had.”
“It’s been awhile, and I was looking forward to returning to this spacious, pleasant spot for wine, drinks and OUTSTANDING food. They have not disappointed. I believe they’ve upped their game with portion sizes (unnecessarily for us; great, well crafted food served beautifully takes time and attention) but my husband will take home half his Mill Mountain Charcuterie plate. More than enough for two. I inhaled the Spinach & Artichoke flatbread, as I did last time and probably shouldn’t have considering I’m just one person. We did the Richard’s Favorite Flight followed by a glass of bubbles for me and Maple Bourbon Smash for him. Bravo and cheers! Come on down!”

“My sisters and I went out for a girls night during restaurant week. Initially, I was really irritated by the hostess Diana, she was very offputting. One of my sisters went to check the bar area and she went after her and told her to come back, which is crazy to me. We're not children. We know how to observe, look around and see if there are seats available and return to the hostess stand if we are unable to find a place. We almost walked out. She said there wasn't a table available for us and next thing you know here comes Macie (sp.?) to save the day. She was amazing!! She quickly said there's a table available here and pointed behind her. She was one of the best servers I've ever experienced in all of my years of dining out. She was knowledgeable. She was attentive. She was kind. She was personable and she was funny. Thanks to Macie we had the best start to our girls night out.”
“If the weather is nice there is no better place to hang out and have a beer than their outdoor seating area. It's extremely nice, and the beer here is probably the best you're going to find in Roanoke. The staff is great, and their growlers are reasonably priced. They don't stay open very late, so be sure to get there early.”

“I had only ever driven passed never stopped in, and I am so glad I did today! The Buffalo Chicken Philly wrap was phenomenal- the handcut fries also delicious. Wish I had room to try one of their deserts. Excellent service by Christine, my water never got close to empty.”
“I decided to stop by New Year's eve to get something in my stomach before drinking. They were full but I was offered a seat outside and took it. The food is all great here. Tonight they had a man carding at the front door. A customer came up already with a bad attitude. He didn't want to be carded and was insulted for he had been coming here for years. The gentleman minding the door whose name was Chris handled it very calmly with no attitude even though the guy calmed he didn't like Chris's attitude. the customer was clear trying to start something but only received politeness. I saw that same guy trying to start it up with another gentleman watching the door. Great job to Chris. He was also nice enough to stop and chat with me and do his job. I was the only one sitting outside it was nice to be acknowledged. Thanks”

“Very cool atmosphere, great appetizers & wine menu. Felt like a different city. Went on a Friday evening. ❤️”
“What a lovely experience. Stopped in and had two fantastic cocktails. Dark rum and gin. Who ever is designing their menu has a varried pallet and knows flavor. Our bartender was kind and very engaging. I highly recommend stopping by while visiting Roanoke.”

“we ordered chilaquiles rojos with over easy eggs and a large quesadilla with tinga de pollo. the portions were generous and the food was quite tasty. we shared and this was enough for three people. they came with green and red salsa on the side. the chilaquiles came with fluffy tasty rice and delicious refried beans. we love the decor and the music: Marco Antonio Solis and other classics. we'll definitely be back.”

“The perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion! We made a reservation on a Thursday to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. I have an (admittedly very annoying) food restriction that makes eating out difficult. I reached out to the staff prior to our reservation and told them about the restriction and they were able to make the dishes that I wanted without the allergen. Our service was incredible, our waitress was very attentive. I would come back just for the after-dinner coffee! Thanks Sidecar staff for making my boyfriend's birthday dinner so special.”

“Loved how informative the company is. Highly recommend if it’s your first time buying hemp or the 100th time they will have something for everyone”

“Don't usually go inside but had a little extra time this visit so I found a seat at a table and proceeded to enjoy my breakfast. Shortly, I noticed employees standing in the doorway greeting customers (some by name), offering refills on drinks, removing empty trays, etc. Nice new hospitality feature! Stop in at the Franklin Road store for a pleasant fast food dining experience!”
“Nice rural relaxing atmosphere (that also heats up from time to time with fun events). The wings are some of the best in town, and the burgers are great too. The staff is very welcoming as well. Amy is very knowledgeable about the history of the building and always has a fun story to tell. Chad is always smiling and happy to make sure your visit was enjoyable. It's my new Friday night go to for sure!”
“One of our favorite restaurants! The staff is AMAZING and the food is always top shelf. We live in Greensboro NC and make the 2 hour trip because of the food. HIGHLY recommend Caribbica Soul. You won't be disappointed!”
Takeout Restaurants
“We usually go to Golden Corral on the weekends as a treat to myself and my boyfriend. I look forward to the hug I get from the front cashier, Tayausha, she is so sweet and kind. I had an issue with the app 1 time and she explained it to me and resolved my issue. Usually the first person you see or meet in a restaurant sets the tone for the experience and whenever I see her beautiful smile it makes my day. We refer to her as our GC daughter. You need to hire more smiling faces like hers she gives excellent customer service and is 1 of the reasons we come back.”
“A big thank you to Mission BBQ of Roanoke for catering my son and new daughter’s wedding reception. We have always loved that they are strong supporters of the military and first responders and their food is consistently delicious. So many of their guests told us how much they enjoyed dinner and how good everything tasted. The staff was incredible and very helpful throughout the evening. They even kept the drink dispensers we brought with us filled without us having to ask. I had worked with two of the staff members at previous weddings and it meant so much to me that they personally requested to work my kids’ wedding. Seeing them there made the day even more special. Our menu included brisket, pulled chicken, pulled pork, cheesy potatoes, mac and cheese, green beans, cornbread, and rolls. We had plenty of leftovers that we were able to take home and freeze and everything reheated perfectly. I would recommend Mission BBQ to anyone considering barbecue for their wedding. The food was amazing and the service was excellent from start to finish. 😋 🍽️”
“Their Cuban food is the next best thing to being in Miami!! Everything we ordered was amazing. All our food was prepared fresh and the restaurant is super clean. The service is fantastic!!! A plus!! We can’t wait to visit Roanoke again just to eat at this restaurant!!!”

“Just moved to Roanoke and have to find new places to go for dinner. Have been there for dinner tonight and would recommend this place. I had the pepper steak with white rice and vegetables and a spring roll. My husband had the Bai Lok Lak. All was very tasty. Restaurant is clean and Mario is super friendly and attentive . Will definitely come back.”
“Huge fan of this spot! I'm obsessed with their fresh noodles - they're always perfectly cooked, never overdone. I keep coming back for the black garlic paitan and spicy miso ramen, especially when paired with their fall-off-the-bone slow-roasted brisket and no bone in sight. It's the perfect combo! Service is always on point too. Already planning my next visit.”
“I placed a special order for their cannolis after various recommendations and they were beyond a hit! What a great pair of owners in a quaint spot in downtown Roanoke. Extremely reasonably priced for amazing, fresh, handmade, REAL food. I will definitely return to try more!”
“We have been here twice and the service and food are excellent! We enjoyed dinner and breakfast. This has become one our favorite restaurants. We really enjoyed the jazz music at the dinner service last night. We highly recommend this restaurant!”
“WOW!! I had not had Indian Cuisine in a long time. Now I know why I missed it so bad. TAAZA is AWESOME! The service was only 4 stars but the rest of the experience was 6 stars. The food was very fresh and SUPER TASTY! If you mistakenly over do the Spice level, eat the bread. It will allow you to breathe again!!!”

“Been going to Paul’s for over thirty years. Never, ever had a bad or even so-so meal there. The owners are there, they will get to know you and are always trying to please your eating experience. May I suggest you try it. It is not the high class Restr.. , but one you will find reasons to return. Tell them Dan sends his best!”
“Freaking amazing and the food is 10/10!!!
Absolutely phenomenal — truly one of a kind.
This place is incredibly family-oriented, and you can feel the love in every part of the experience, from the food to the atmosphere. The staff is unbelievably welcoming; even while you’re waiting, it’s effortless to fall into easy, genuine conversation. They greet you with warmth, acknowledge you, and make you feel like part of their own family. It’s the kind of place that keeps you coming back, not just for the amazing food, but for the way they make you feel right at home.”
“I’m not gonna lie, the price at first made me nervous until I got the food. Big portions, tastes delicious, absolutely well worth the price. My god. Had a religious experience over a hot dog. This place is great and I will definitely add this to my list of regular spots to eat.”
“The manager ( Leslie) was is nice and even greeted me and my kids with a warm smile, the establishment was nice, neat and welcoming, delightful food and great service. The staff was so polite and friendly I can’t wait to eat here again”
“The absolute best place. Starr Hill in Roanoke is the friendliest best brewery in town. Since hiring Shannon things have totally turned around for the better. Shannon, Donovan, Rafe and George are the best of the best staff anywhere, they are like friends you have always had. Everytime you walk in they call you by name and make you feel so very welcome. Matter of fact I was in there the other day, sitting alone and was invited to join a few others at the bar. After making new friends I left several hours and lots of beer later, had a blast and made new friends. There is always something for everyone and you don’t have to do it all. Pick and choose what you want, you are never excluded. Not everything is for all but so much variety, never a dull moment. Beer and company is the best in town. It’s a “Place where everyone knows your name” just like to show “Cheers”. It will always be my go to community place to unwind. Thanks for ALWAYS making things so much fun.”
Cheap Eats
“Was craving a waffle, and this place came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. From "servers that assist each other and any customer in the place" to "a warm welcome and gratitude for having chosen them as we were leaving" to the "delicious food", it was a win all around!”
“Driving through Roanoke and this spot caught our eye, and it delivered.
The breakfast menu isn’t the standard diner lineup. There’s some creativity here. The biscuits are the headline: flaky, substantial, clearly made with care (and lard-the right way). The grits were creamy, well-seasoned, and exactly what you hope for in the South.
But the food isn’t the only reason to stop by. The staff treats you like you’ve been coming in for years.
If I lived in Roanoke, this would be a regular place.”
“Great food. The waitress was so very friendly, attentive and went beyond to make our experience a pleasant one. Food is always served hot and seasoned perfectly 10 out of 10 times. Thank you, First Watch— you know how to do it right— from front door welcome, thru hot servings and GREAT SERVICE. We will be back!!”
“Horrible experience. The descriptions on the menu are inaccurate. I went and had lunch with my 86-year-old mother. We ordered salads. She ordered Cobb salad and I ordered the fried chicken salad, because the description says it's served on a bed of "mixed greens". I hate iceberg lettuce. When my salad came, I ate the fried chicken tenders, but complained, because the salad was nothing but iceberg and romaine lettuce. The young, so-called manager, named TJ, was very rude and unapologetic and told me that lettuce is mixed greens. He told me if I wasn't happy, I could go to cooperate, in which I did. I was truly embarrassed by how I was treated in front of my mom. Update: I spoke to the owner Bob, he was super apologetic and embarrassed at how his employee treated us. He said the menu has been the same way for 30 plus years. We discussed how lettuce and mixed greens are NOT the same thing, and is misleading on the menu. I know after speaking with him that he will do the right thing.”
“I’ll start by saying we frequented BitS for many years largely due to convenience and price point. After awhile, we quit going in because of poor quality across the board. We are very pleased with the changes in the food and set up after a recent change in ownership. I prefer the ability to order from my seat vs standing in line. The buns are no longer soggy and fries are perfectly crispy. We received a warm welcome and excellent service this evening from a gentleman (uncertain of his name, but KD was on our receipt) despite a full restaurant. This young man is a valuable asset to the team and we will continue to return. Please give them a try!!”
“My friend, our kids, and I stopped on our way home today and had the best experience. Everyone working was so friendly and kind and patient. The ice cream and chocolates are AMAZING. I had the lemon cheesecake bar ice cream. It was the best I’ve ever had. The sea salt caramels are soft and decadent. I’d go every day if I lived close by. We’ll stop in every time we go to Roanoke.”
“This is our favorite place for a special date night. The food is always AMAZING!!! We have never once had a bad meal or bad service. I highly recommend the ahi tuna with crawfish risotto.”
“Absolutely, hands down one of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure of dining in. From the very friendly and helpful staff to one of the cleanest restaurants I have seen. While in town on October 24th and the 25th, had dinner on Friday and was so impressed, I had to go back Saturday before leaving. Needless to say, when I return to Roanoke I will be staying in the same location to only have this restaurant 3 blocks away.”
“We adore Rockfish and are so thankful to have them in the Village!! Amazing food, cocktails, and service every time!”
“went for my son bday because he loves that they throw the shrimp and was his requests. they were busy which is understandable for a Saturday..half of our party never got asked about salads ..we had to remind the waitress about our drinks more than once and to top it off the wiring for the lights infer the table had been spliced and my little boy was shocked from it...once making them aware I got the excuse they were busy!! this was the wires that he was shocked from.. very disappointment”
“This place is perfect for a big dinner party or a romantic celebration. I have never left hungry or disappointed. The food is absolutely amazing - make sure you try the Escargot!”
“The place is up to date with what's good for you health wise. All fresh! Juice and smoothies are very tasty and the staff is very friendly! We'll definitely be back!”
“Frankie Rowland's Steakhouse 104 South Jefferson St. Roanoke, VA 5-Stars On the final leg of our sojourn around the Eastern Seaboard, we decided to try the highly rated Frankie Rowland's Steakhouse in ancient Roanoke, VA. Keeping a wary eye on my GPS (I didn't want to go missing) we soon arrived at our destination. Stepping out of the Big Boy Mobile with an air of equitation, we stepped inside. Having been here since 2001, one could argue they have become something of an icon in these parts, famously known for their selection of potables boasting over 120 wines and 130 liquors and offering 70 different kinds of martinis. I suspect, had this been around in the 50s, this would have been Deano's favorite haunt. When I partake of fine dining out of town, I really turn the Big Boy character on high speed since there is a less than 1% chance anyone will recognize me. This allows me to be an extra persnickety diner for sh*ts & giggles. Hunter is our waiter this evening and he truly rolled with the punches. I put him through the wringer with my questions, and he, along with the entire service staff, was amazing. This garnered a 100% tip. Yes, you read that right. I asked Hunter for one Sidecar Martini, a Caesar salad and a 20 oz Ribeye with a side of Brussels sprouts. Sitting back and reflecting on our short jaunt my companion and I leisurely awaited Hunter's return. My drink came before the meal, as requested, and was superb. Hats off to the barkeep. Snapping the required pics of the place, I saw Hunter returning with our grub. I could smell the steak from here, or someone's steak, regardless I was practically drooling by the time he reached our table. As I actually do posses a modicum of culture (thanks mom) I began with the Caesar salad. As one can see from the picture, the lettuce was fresh, dark green and crisp. The Parmesan was freshly shaved and the anchovies were bedded on top. This is the standard al Caesar salads should be held against. Masterful! Before I talk about the steak, I implore you to take a look at that picture. Now, look again. What you are looking at, loyal reader is the perfect steak. It is seared the correct amount and is just a beautiful shade of red on the inside. One bite and the meat practically melted on my tongue it was so tender. This had to be some of the best bovine flesh I've ever had the pleasure of masticating. Seriously, this was so incredibly good, I'm looking at nearby real estate. Not really, but I've a mind to! The Big Boy says, “If you find yourself in Roanoke for some reason, perhaps looking for the lost colony or within 150 miles, stop and eat here. Frankie Rowland's is in my Top 5 All USA!””
“I have been going here for years and they know what we like so it makes it a great place to go. There have been very few issues with the food, once with a Togo order and once in the restaurant that I can recall but the last time was great. The prices have gone up a bit lime most places so that's not great but the value of the steak you get here is good for the price I just hope they don't keep going up so that statement doesn't change. I fully recommend eating here any time.”
“Bridget, our waitress was amazing! She was very attentive and on top of everything. This woman deserves a raise for her hard work!!”
“Beef Nigimaki and Orange peel Shrimp were excellent and so was the service. Thanks Shirley”
“Everything about Ben Gui is what you want in a sushi restaurant. The food is amazing, truly a Roanoke hidden gem. I especially like how you can tell the chef what you like and they'll come up with something for you on the spot. The atmosphere is well-built and takes you out of a strip mall and over to Japan. The service is very friendly, they definitely want to welcome you in and make your experience with them as enjoyable as possible.”

“I have to say I was disappointed tonight. I’ve been eating here for quite some time, but I must mention how awful the owner was to his staff. I overheard him belittle his staff on numerous occasions. He made a comment that if he had to be there, they were going to feel it. He called one of the staff junior a few times. A staff person brought him more of those little oil dishes, and he snapped that he didn’t need those. He seemed intoxicated by hugging on one of the cooks. There are plenty of other places to eat without having to watch this “show”.”
“Me and my girlfriend started coming here at Christmas time! We love the food. She and I love to get up and dance like we're at a dinner and a show. I highly recommend trying the garlic tater tots on the appitizer. OH MY GOSH they are the BEST tater tots I ever had. PLEASE try them if you like tater tots. We started coming here since after the start of 2025 to celebrate Christmas.”

“Excellent Sunday brunch buffet! Highly disappointed that when i called ahead of time to ask if they had a dessert table, was told No. We had a party of 10 for a birthday celebration, so I brought a cake. When it was time to have our cake, i was told it would be a $1.00 a plate charge to have a dessert plate. Extremely turned off about that. Ruined our birthday celebration. Idk? Is this a thing? Never ever have heard of a plate fee.”

“First time there. In Grandin village. You sit down to a table with cloth napkins and a table cloth. The lady who waited on us was so helpful in explaining dishes. I ordered the ox tail meal and wife the shrimp creole. Both were great dishes. The gravy was so deep in its taste and flavor it was worth sopping up with the bread. We joined the clean plate club. The 2 dishes we had were the best creole dishes we have had in Roanoke. We will go back and try their other dishes”
“I have been to this location three times. I have tried the boneless wings as well as the bone and wings and a chicken sandwich. Everything was hot and fresh, and the staff was very polite and went above and beyond to make each visit great. Definitely recommend.😊”
“I have to say it even though I love cookout and it’s probably my favorite fast food I can get in the area but this cookouts food is not the same as other ones I have been too it’s pretty close but it’s missing something it even seems to me that the burger patties are smaller or actually thinner and the ingredients where not as greasy or sloppy and loaded down, I even asked for double sides of cajun fries to go with my cheddar style big double burger tray and got what was in my opinion one side and also compared to the many many other times I have been to other cookouts. I also got the wrong toppings on my burger it was not cheddar style it was still pretty good and alright but not as good as usual overall and to a level that makes me not be so excited to go back again, but I will in hopes of an improvement or the magic ingredient they are missing right now to get mixed in. I also don’t know if maybe I hit them on a bad day or time but it was noticeably different because normally this is the best thing you can get and tons of it for around $10 and then less money if you want just something like a “walk-in taco” or a hotdog or quesadillas to fill you up. My favorite time to go is late at night when you are still up and nothing else is open too, but it’s got all sorts of comfort/country style food and it’s all normally really good and real ingredients cooked on a real grill and is a step up from your ordinary steamed fast food at other places. Also this location only has walk up or drive thru but two lanes of drive thru and it’s pretty quick to get thru, I don’t know what they are going to do when people really figure out that it’s here in this location because every other cookout every other time I have been to one of them usually has a line of cars stretching out the parking lot and there is no room for that here. Overall I think it’s still worth it and I would take a chance and go there again and that it will definitely be the way cookout has been at every other restaurant I have been to and the food will get it’s awesomeness, flavor and special style back the next time, I will be sure to write another review if it is subpar again but this experience was depressing and felt like loss, but if you have that experience or are worried there is another one in Roanoke that I can vouch for it’s place as best fast food to get at 2:00am or 2:00pm or any other time too”
“This is the best seafood i have ever eaten in my life. krystal is amazing in every aspect of customer service.
This place is definitely a vibe, I will definitely be coming back!!”
