“Overall food quality seemed to be great. Both green and red sauce for chips was a little bland. Chips were hot and crispy. Had steak tacos, pork belly tacos and pork enchiladas. All were very good. Queso was good but our fault, didn't add the chorizo. My hibiscus margarita would have been great had I not picked one with mezcal. Forgot I really don't like mezcal! 😅“

“We had a wonderful experience dining here! Our server checked on us regularly to make sure everything was going well. There was a slight delay with one of our drinks, but they handled it so graciously — they apologized and comped it without us even asking.

The food was fantastic. We ordered the steak and chicken fajitas, and the steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare — tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Everything arrived quickly, and the server provided extras as requested.

The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed. It’s a great spot for family celebrations. There’s also a cute outdoor patio with plenty of seating — perfect for a casual hangout or date night.

More importantly I am convinced the ingredients are locally and sustainably sourced unlike other places where the ingredients have been overly processed/preserved. If you understand ‘fresh’ in terms of food, this is the place to be.“

“This place is kind of small hole in the wall. Seats about 14 or so outside and not many more people inside. Nice menu that's not too large or too small. Some Tex-Mex menus have way too many choices. The starter tortilla chips and salsa were top notch. Service all around was excellent. I had the Chicken Chimichanga and it was one of the best I've ever had. It came with rice and refried beans as well as pico, sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce. Everything was delicious, cooked perfectly, and reasonably priced. The presentation was great as well Can't wait to come back.“

“Bar J chili Parlor is a great stop in Occoquan to eat and chill! Chips were good sauce was good too with a spicy aftertaste. “The name is a little misleading. They serve authentic Latin American cuisine. Not a huge place, seating is limited. Consider takeout. I’m a huge fan of their salteñas and fried plantains. Very affordable. Entree portions are generous in my opinion. I’ve only been for lunch and dinner. The bakery case has lots of treats that I need to explore.“

“Open late and everything tasted so fresh and authentic! We were looking for something to eat late on a Sunday night and a friend recommended Picamas since they lived nearby. I ordered the chicken burrito and it was so good. The tortilla was really soft and the chicken was so flavorful and went really well with the rice and veggies in the burrito. The owner was so friendly and they really made an effort to prepare our meal for us. Overall great food and we’ll definitely be coming back!“

“This restaurant is beautiful, It used to be my favorite years ago, but now they had changed the food quality and quantity. Thwir burritos used to be mainly beef and double the size of the oens they serve now, also their margaritas were huge and natural fruit.“

“Out of the several restaurants and food joints I visited in DC, from all different types, this place was actually my favorite. The girls working there were SO sweet and were nice enough to make recommendations since we were from out of state. I got 2 burritos (taking one back with me to my hotel for later) and they were perfect. I got the country style one that had the ham and gravy and the other was the chorizo burrito. The chorizo was my favorite. I'm so sad that we don't have one in California!“

“Looking for a fun activity with our family before Thanksgiving, we chose bowling. The prices were definitely cheaper than commercial locations. The place was clean with stations every few lanes with balls organized by color and weight. There were ramps available for anyone to use if necessary. There is also the ability to set bumpers to raise and lower for an individual in your group. You have the ability to edit your score, which is great because a few times pins would fall on their own and add to the score. There were options for scoring using regular bowling rules or other fun games. While we didn’t eat there, but there were plenty of food and drink selections. My only issue was the balls were very oily and the finger holes were very small. Staff said that’s how they were ordered but offered me a small container of baby powder to use.“

Original review:
We loved this place when it opened and we went weekly all last year. But they completely changed the menu for the Del Ray location when they opened their Mosaic location and it’s not the same. What really irks me is that they still use photos from their old menu in all of their marketing when it doesn’t match what they’re serving. The menu changes really don’t mesh with the outdoor vibe of the Del Ray location and it really takes away from the experience.

The combo plates and smaller tacos on the old menu were the perfect for sharing and trying a bunch of everything. They also had some great menu items they removed, including the mac and cheese that was mentioned by WaPo as one of the best in the city.

Now, instead of getting a combo platter and selecting sides that come on a platter you have to choose one meat and it comes on a personal plate with rice and beans, as if it’s a sit down Tex Mex restaurant instead of something unique. We already have four of those within walking distance of the Del Ray spot. Another change they made is that when you order a taco, you get one larger taco instead of two smaller tacos that can be shared. The menu doesn’t specify that, and we were expecting something different because we were used to the old menu. I ordered the fish taco, which sounded great, but was really bland.

The changes are a real disappointment. I used to love recommending this place to friends, and the meat is still great, but I feel like this place has lost what made it special wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to eat here.

Editing to adjust this downward. We tried to give this place a few more chances over the summer and after last night we are not coming back. Start to finish, it was a really awful experience. We waited at an empty hostess stand for several minutes before we saw anyone and then sat at our table for fifteen minutes before anyone showed up. We never got water. Only two of the five items we ordered came out correctly. The food was cold and honestly just kind of gross. We saw our server twice the entire time we were there and watched someone who ordered takeout return their order because half of it was missing. Whoever is running this place just doesn’t care about it anymore. It’s really sad. We used to love it here but it’s just awful.“

“I have gone to them during my lunch break during my work day.They are a husband and wife tag team in there.They work very hard to please others please show them some love .The food is great.I have even taking my son and daughter there .Because of how family oriented they are. Small business needs more interest.Its a Bang for your buck! And the food is outstanding!!“

“The employees here are always so friendly and welcoming! The serving sizes are very reasonable and the ingredients always seem pretty fresh! Only issue is sometimes when going in the evening for dinner the rice is crunchy, but otherwise we love going here! Love when they have taco shell bowls!“

I hardly get takeout yet I was able to get a free soft taco and chips with different salsas and sauces with free guacamole to go using my app reward points last year & reward. I liked the new additional sauces they added. The service was great and they got me two samples of ranch sauce quickly since it ran out at the self serving area. The ambiance of the place was simple and clean. I came there late at night when they were near closing time (10 PM). was glad to get there in time. The free chips they gave with my taco were still delicious the next day and still good to eat after heating in the microwave. Actually they were the best chips I ever got from a Mexican food place.
