Restaurantji unveils Hales Corners' must-visit Mexican dining spots.
“Came in a few minutes after my pick up order was supposed to be ready. It then was 10 minutes after my order was supposed to be ready. I was good with waiting a bit longer since they get busy around dinner time, but one of the workers came up to me and asked if I was waiting for an order. Turns out someone stole my to-go order, since the person working was the one who checked it and put it out on the to-go shelf.Without me even asking what they could do about it, the worked apologized (not even their fault) and said they would make a new order right away! Didn’t even need to verify my order number.A couple minutes later they brought my order out and apologized again. The worker was very nice and had great customer service skills. Wish I would have asked for their name to give them proper credit.“
“I have lunch here once or twice a week. The staff chatters loudly and constantly to each other in Spanish, but they're polite, the food is prepared correctly and the doors are always unlocked during the day*, making it by a wide margin the best TB in the greater Milwaukee area.*lotta negative reviews re locked doors, out of food, etc - I'm thinking time of day may be a factor. I'm only ever there around noon. Also, I actually prefer the kiosks to human interaction so make of that what you will.“
“New owners still getting their feet grounded. Sort of an unusual place. Mexican and Thai food. Talked with the owner, a very nice guy. They are still experimenting with the menu choices, based on the customer preferences. We would dine again.“
“This taco truck is a MUST. The food is more than reasonably priced and is of the highest quality. It's fresh and always serviced quickly. The truck is clean and well maintained, and all ingredients are fresh and plentiful. I've had the beef tacos several times and cannot complain about them at all. My most recent visit included a beef burrito and it exceeded my expectations just like all their food items. The service could not be better. The friendly staff goes out of their way to provide a quality meal with top notch quality and fresh ingredients. They have always served the food with a smile and a pleasant demeanor. If you are looking for good food, with quality ingredients and great taste served with cars from a friendly staff this taco truck is a MUST. Go there incr and you will become a loyal customer“
“Can’t go wrong with this affordable and cozy Mexican restaurant.Food:Really great tacos! I got both the steak and chicken tripe tacos. Good flavor and super affordable ($12). Hit the spot across the board. Better than a ridiculous $20 plate of tacos at Botanas or similar. Affordable drinks and margaritas. Damn good horchata.Service:Sweet server that was attentive and personable. Appreciated!Atmosphere:Cozy spot with a bar. An open dining room. A side room that could be good for a birthday party or other celebration with a large group.Parking is also super easy. There’s a big free lot right in front.I’ll definitely be visiting again!“
“It’s hard to pick anything that stands out about my experience there because everything was fantastic. The service was great and showed the immense care and passion held by the staff. The food was equally as fantastic from the meal to even the chips they bring out at the start.“
“My go-to food at a Mexican restaurant is Chicken Mole. This place gets all the stars, because O. M. G. The chicken was so tender, it literally slid off the bone! That's not to say it was overcooked, because it certainly wasn't. It retained it's juiciness and flavor, which was only enhanced by the brown mole sauce. The sauce here is a bit sweeter than other places I've eaten, which made for a nice change. The side of rice was nothing to speak of, but that is ok; I just used the mole sauce to give it some oomph. This is a small, hole in the wall type of place, discretely tucked in the corner of the building that houses El Rey. Blink and you may miss it. The interior is decorated in vibrant colors and typical Mexican decor, making you feel like you are, indeed, in Mexico. Service is spot on: friendly, helpful, and efficient.Missing Mexico? Stop in...you'll feel like you never left!4/2024“
“Fantastic food! I knew as soon as I tasted the very flavorful salsas that were brought out right away with the basket of freshly-made chips that I would be in for a treat. My enchiladas were delicious and made just perfectly! The included side of rice and beans was top-notch as well. Definitely worth a stop!“
“Antigua Latin Inspired Kitchen in West Allis is a culinary gem offering exceptional food, cocktails, and service. From savory empanadas to tender carne asada, each dish celebrates Latin flavors with finesse. The cocktails, expertly crafted, add a delightful touch to the experience. The staff's warm hospitality makes every visit memorable. For a taste of Latin America in West Allis, Antigua is the place to be.“
“Outstanding food and service. The friendly waitstaff greet with a smile as you enter. We've been here multiple times, with the same great experience each time. Great variety in the menu offerings- I've yet to have the same thing twice and have never been disappointed. Prices are reasonable and the portions allow for a great meal of leftovers. There are also some very interesting craft cocktails! You won't regret choosing Pina.“
“One of the best Mexican food trucks I've had!! They have both Mexican and loaded tacos, the chicken and shredded beef were super flavorful. And fast service for ordering at lunch. Would definitely recommend trying this place and 100% would come again.“
“Ever think about going to a bar and then get to the bar and say...dang I wish there was a taco truck near by? Well that's what we did lol and we found this perfection on wheels, the food was great and the veggies were some of the freshest I've had and they even gave me some aluminum to take home as much as I can fit in it!! It was soo great!“
“Loving the divey vibe and welcoming atmosphere from the staff members!I ordered their newly added fish filet sandwich with a side of onion rings.Thin and crispy batter on both the onion rings and fish filet. Tangy tartar sauce was an excellent flavor profile.Volume was huge so I saved the half for my late snack “
“This is a very nice place for some great mole. OMG!!! Their mole is like Mexican chocolate sauce on a juicy chicken breast. I mean OMG for real. The beans and rice are good as well. We also had their chimichangas which were very large and tasty. The service was fine. To me . . . Their chips taste like really authentic tortilla chips like in Cancun. Their salsa was okay. In my opinion, it didn’t seem very flavorful. Oh well . . . Maybe I caught it in a “not so good” day. We had a wonderful lunch, and I will be going back for some more of that yummy mole.“
“We got them for catering our wedding and we could not be more pleased with their service! They were so attentive to details, and asked so many questions that were specific to our wedding. Everything was so perfect, the set up, the service, and the food was beyond amazing! We would recommend them to everyone that we know!“
“Came up for HD120 and were hungry and looking for something different and stumbled upon Fiesta Cafe. Really nice inside. We arrived before the dinner menu so we had the breakfast which they serve late. A little disappointed at first but then started looking at the menu and there are a LOT of tasty sounding options I've never seen before. I went with the Al Pastor omelette because I love pork and pineapple! My friend had something I was looking at too. My friend also asked for banana pancakes which they brought as well. The drink menu looks awesome too but we were riding so that was a no go on drinks! But I would recommend highly as a stop for food and ambiance!“
“If you want great food and amaizing service plus authentic liie your grandma's rancho...then yeah this is the spot!! Can't give enough compliments to all the staff there. Super attentive and polite and just down to earth kind of people. Me and my girl went for the very first time after a recommendation from a buddy and boy was it worth it! You gotta try the chicharon and all the various styles of it. DELICIOUS!!! The tacos ? to die for with home made tortillas!! I personally have found my favorite Mexican for real Mexican spot! Yes they are only open on the weekends but dam it's worth every penny and every minute your there.“
“Amazing Atmosphere! So fun!Not to mention, great tacos and drinks. We are looking forward to going back.Right outside the Marcus center, so as everyone is waiting in bumper to bumper traffic to get out of the parking structure, walk across the street to have some fantastic food and drinks with friends!Vegetarian options: Corn tacos, black bean tacos, fries, chips and salsa, cactus tacos. More than that…“
“Best taco truck around. Food is always delicious, hot and fresh! Today I got 2 amazing tacos for less than $6 which they can do Mexican or American style. They give you 2 different kinds of salsa and a couple limes. You can order over phone or walk up. They also have tons of other food options and are very friendly.Parking: Parking is street only but free and they are just across the sidewalk.“
“A nice convenient taco truck PAY WITH CASH ONLYReally excellent service and excellent portions as well, the food was delicious and exactly the taste of Mexico when you’re missing home. Authentic and run efficiently. But be sure to bring cash beforehand, the ATM near the gas station had a single 20$ and charged a 2.75$ service fee.“
“The BEST birria tacos in Milwaukee hands down. I’ve tried just about everywhere and no other place stands a chance. Atmosphere is great music is too low or too loud. If you need or want something a simple look at your server and they’ll come right over. Prices for the amount of food is absolutely killer. Everything I’ve ever order from Lazo’s is full full full of flavor. If you’re visiting Milwaukee or live here, you definitely should come check Lazo’s Tacos out. Seeing door dashers come in and out without waiting for more than 5 minutes is also a great sign they are doing something correct.“
“We had them cater our wedding of 200+ people and it went great. Jan was very responsive from the start and made the entire process easy and stress free. All of our guests had great things to say about the food and the churros were a huge hit. Altogether we couldn't have asked for anything else from our wedding caterer.“
“First time trying this place it's a small dining area and parking can be a bit of an issue since they're in a gas station parking lot, that is rather small. The food was fabulous. I had the taco dinner which on Tuesday was $17 for three tacos, a side of beans and rice as well as a free drink. The tacos I had were two ground beef, and one shredded pork they were very tasty. Really loved the seasoning on the shredded pork. The beans with the, cheese on top were fabulous. Mexican rice was cooked just right would definitely go back. The server was very attentive. They were just a little stingy on the ice for the ice water I requested for some reason other than that everything else was fantastic.“
“Hands down the best Mexican cuisine in SE Wisconsin. Do not judge this book by the cover. Show up ready to step out of your normal boundaries and order a broad range of items to share so you don't miss out on this amazing menu. Can't wait for our friends and family to experience this great spot!“
“La Sierrita was a pleasant restaurant. People were nice, and the food was good. We had a Tostada, a Gordita, Flautas, and Chilaquiles with rice and beans. The verde sauce was my favorite, and it enhanced all the dishes. While I enjoyed La Sierrita, I thought the food at El Tlaxcalteca, El Tapatico, and Tavo’s Signature was better.“
“Nice spot, good value for the frozen drinks, food was good, service was excellent, the red diablo hot sauce was amazing! I couldn’t stop eating it on the chips and put it all over my chimichanga. Downed 3/4 a bottle in one sitting myself!!“
“Botanas Restaurant never disappoints. Food was extremely good. Service was awesome. The staff were definitely very kind. I got a big steak burrito dinner. To drink I got a Pacifico Clara. One of the best Mexican restaurants in Milwaukee, WI. I'll be back in the future. Thank you!“
“I really love going to this place. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is amazing! Sol de Mexico will always make sure you have a wonderful experience. During lunch and dinner time, before your food arrives, you are given free chips and salsa which is always a treat. They also serve fried ice cream with lots of toppings. The price for the ice cream is great since they give you so much and it has delicious toppings too. They have an wide range of dishes to choose from on their menu. If you bring your kid and their picky you can always order them the grilled cheese with fries. Speaking of their fries, I absolutely love them! They have something on their menu for just about anyone. Give Sol de Mexico a try! I bet you'll love it!Vegetarian options: They serve several types of salad or meat-free options such as their Papya Salad. And if you wanted a salad they have that contains meat you could ask for your salad without meat and they most likely can do that for you.Parking: There is plenty of room to park most of the time. Unless they are extremely busy. The only time it was a little hard to find a parking spot was on Father's Day. I assume this was because people were taking their dad out to eat.Kid-friendliness: They do allow children in to the restaurant. However, I have never seen an infant there so I don't know if they have highchairs or not. They have several options for kids on the menu such as grilled cheese and fries. I believe they have a kids menu for ages 12 and under.“
“Hands down some of the best tacos in Milwaukee,Wi. Everything Fresh made to order! Love the staff who remain consistent and very detailed to your specific order. Come with cash they are cash only so be prepared! Trust me you won’t be disappointed! Get a mini taco dinner for me! Can you say ? yum!!!“
“Absolutely delicious food and drinks. Had dinner last night with a friend around 5:30p. Ample places to sit, chips and salsa were decent. Margaritas were tasty as well definitely snuck up on us after the second round. Would absolutely come back again.“
“We really enjoy the food here! The prices are fair and the quality and taste has been excellent each visit. The establishment is clean and we've always had friendly and prompt wait staff. We're looking forward to trying the lunch buffet!“
“They knew two than three. The al pastor tacos did not have much flavor. But they were $1 on Tuesdays. The tacos were ok. They didn't really have much flavor, ordered the Al pastor tacos since they were $1 a taco on Tuesday. Good filler though.“
“If you want authentic Mexican food, this is the place to go! They have the real birria tacos made with goat meat. They also serve Pozole and Menu all days of the week which is rare (usually you can only find that stuff on the weekends). They’re horchata and hibiscus (agua de Jamaica) waters a delicious too!“
“The food here is outstanding! The only caveat is the service was poor. We waited about 10 minutes before someone finally noticed we didn't have water and brought some, and then we had to ask if we can order. Meanwhile one of the servers(?) talked to the table next to us the whole time we were there.Once we got our order in, the food came out quick and was fantastic! I had the enchiladas oaxaquenos with chicken. I would definitely go back for the food, but not the service.“
“We are HUGE Birria fans and went there shortly before they closed and sadly they were out of the Birria Egg rolls, but we are going to try again tomorrow because the food was unbelievable! My wife said, and I quote, "This is the meal I've been waiting for!" I've had a lot of Birria in recent months and the Birria Quesadilla was by far the best Birria food item of any kind that I have ever had; it was the chipotle sauce that did it for me. I also highly recommend the Mexican street Corn (with Brussel Sprouts). It was smoky, creamy, tangy....SO good! And lastly, the Mango Aqua Fresca was the perfect pairing to the meal. 10 outta 10!“
“This restaurant is my new Mexican dig, and I am glad I was introduced to it because when it comes to Mexican restaurants, there are so many in the Milwaukee area that I'm at a loss at where to start. I'm truly grateful to my coworker for bringing me there. The service is very fast despite the large menu, and the servers have always been very friendly and welcoming whenever I visited. I've ordered about a quarter of the entire menu so far and every entry has been a hit - packed with flavor and in portions equivalent to their prices, which is on the higher side though that is mainly due to the unfortunate inflation situation plaguing the country therefore something they are not truly at fault for. But to further emphasize on the portions, the jumbo-sized burritos are aren't filled with carb fillers (rice and bean) but rather very generous amounts of meat, ensuring you're getting your money's worth. Also, this is not your typical westernized Mexican dig, they have entrees more catered towards true Mexican cuisine.Overall, I continue to be excited returning to this restaurant to further carry on my exploration of their menu. But if you need additional persuasion, know that the (very friendly) owner is a liquor connoisseur and if you ask him he will be more than glad to proudly pull out his rarer collection for you. I don't think I've had smoother tequila anywhere else, and I hope you'll all give this place a try.“
“We went in about 45 mins before they closed. They were super nice and welcoming. We sat at the bar and ordered right away to make sure we weren't holding them up. Food was fantastic. Highly recommend their Wednesday burrito special. Margaritas were great and a decent price. Will def go again.“
“I keep getting the bahn mi burger over and over because that savory sesame sauce with the pickled veggies is a perfect burger topping. The buns are pleasingly pillowy, and the fries have a tongue-tickling seasoning. It can get a little loud if people are there watching a game, but service is fast and the food remains a great deal. I've been here probably ten times!“
“We ordered food to go and it was suppose to be done within 30 minutes but it was done within 15 which was awesome! The food was bomb and very satisfying. The birria is delicious & they even have tongue tacos which is my fave! I highly recommend ?“
“This place will always be my favorite Mexican restaurant. It’s honestly better than most places I’ve eaten in Mexico. I’ve told so many people about this place since coming here since 2016. There’s something super special about their chicken tacos and green sauce, its like no other. Great prices, amazing quality, and service.“
“Always a good place to eat. Their food is good, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the service is ok. I ordered a coke and came in a glass bottle room temperature. The waiter didn't bring it cold or ask me if I wanted a glass with ice. Other than that, it's a good restaurant.“
“Came here on the recommendation of a friend for our restaurant review. I had never heard of this place or their food trucks before so I was excited to give it a try. While the inside was empty, the service was stellar and I feel they probably do a lot more carry out business than sit down inside. I got the Cubano sandwich, regular sized and it was so tasty. The bread was crispy yet soft and the ingredients, especially the Mexican sausage, was fantastic! I also tried a few tacos that had good flavor but for me a little dry so I had to hit it with the salsa they provided and whoa!! It brought a nice kick of heat to it that really elevated the taco for me. I would absolutely suggest that if you in the mood for a torta, you check out JC King's!“
“this our go-to for mexican. you know it's authentic when the staff speaks limited english and tons of local hispanics go here.Admittedly, we order the bistec a la mexicana every single time. it's fabulous. so the 5 stars might be a bit generous, but guests we've brought loved it too. this restaurant is in the heart of milwaukee's '5th ward,' so there are tons of mexican restaurants in the area, but this one is totally authentic and great. service usually very good, but sometimes a bit slow. free chips and salsa (ask for the hot if you like heat). dated decor but atypical mexican restaurant decor. absolute must.“
“Chilango Express has a streamlined menu of freshly prepared offerings. For point of comparison, expect it to be less greasy and more garlicky than the competition. If you want something different then order the consomme de borrego, the lamb soup, which has chickpeas, cilantro and carrots in it. I will come away from this place dreaming about their corn tortillas which are fluffy and soft, yet grilled. Clearly home made. The dining room is sunny and colorful-- the prices, friendly.“
“Recently discovered this restaurant. It is absolutely delicious—generous portions, more than fair prices. I must say, out of all the Mexican restaurants I've visited, this is the best! Don't know how you do it, but keep it up. Will be back often!“
“Great place, amazing tacos, fast servers and cooks, great music or tv changes depending the vibe of the servers or the mix of customers, great margaritas!!!!!Parking: 4-5 spots right in front and a parking lot across the street but be wary of potholes!“
“I love this place! First time here, and what an experience!! The salmon tacos tasted amazing, bright, and the sause added a kick! The drinks were spot on! The owner took the time to introduce himself, adding further to the friendly, welcoming atmosphere! I WILL return! Highly recommended!“
“The food was very good. It was not busy at all as we ate between 2 and 4 on a Saturday. The building itself needs work but this is what one should expect from a local business which needs to grow organically within a community and isn't just a chain with corporate funding.Parking: Back alley parking and street parking. Can be confusing and messy but is functional.“
“The Jerez restaurant is a nice place to visit with family and friends.Very good service ? delicious food ? ? I do recommend them.It has ample space for a dinner or family meal. You can reserve a table in advance.Delicious drinks and very delicious food“
“So I don't write/leave reviews, but my husband and I just randomly stopped for a late lunch and were SO impressed by the food! My Maria Felix margarita was delicious! We each got 3 street tacos and each one was better than the last! The salsa was a perfect amount of spice and we wish we lived closer so we could cime here more often. Service was alsofriendly and fast. I highly recommend trying them out and I'll be dreaming of their tacos (and margaritas) until I can get back here!“
