There are taverns along the road where a weary traveler may find a meal, take his rest, and continue onward.

And then there are places where one crosses the threshold and discovers an entirely different realm.

El Beso is such a place.

I have known the hospitality of many peoples in my travels. The Elves welcome a traveler with grace, song, and a table elegantly laid. The Dwarves will fill your cup, heap your plate, and expect a proper tale before the fire. And the Hobbits—well, a Hobbit considers an empty stomach a problem requiring immediate attention.

Yet the folk of El Beso possess a hospitality all their own.

Cross its threshold and the whole world seems to brighten. The halls are alive with color and cheerful conversation, while the sounds of a mariachi band carry through the air. There is the merriment of a lively tavern here, certainly—but something warmer beneath it.

It feels almost as though you have wandered past the restaurant entirely and through the gate of a great Latino family gathering in the backyard, where the music is already playing, the tables are crowded with food, glasses are being raised, and someone has decided that since you are here, you had better sit down and eat.

A traveler could grow quite fond of such customs.

And what a table!

The enchiladas have long been among my favorites, as have the quesadillas. Their salsa is excellent, while the queso possesses some curious enchantment by which an entire bowl disappears before one remembers eating it.

But every traveler eventually discovers his chosen potion.

Mine is the mango margarita.

Sweet, cold, and dangerously refreshing. I have encountered many mysterious brews upon the road, but this one has earned a permanent place in my chronicles. A second should perhaps be approached with the wisdom of an Elf rather than the enthusiasm of a Took.

El Beso remains one of my favorite taverns in all my travels—not merely for its excellent food and drink, but for its spirit. It somehow captures both the colorful delight of a bustling restaurant and bar and the warmth of being welcomed into a family celebration.

There is life within these walls. Music. Laughter. Generosity. Good food passed around a table. And that wonderful sense that there is always room for one more traveler.

Should your road ever lead you past El Beso, do not simply pass it by.

Enter the hall. Join the feast. Raise your glass among strangers who may soon feel like friends.

“Watch your bill as they add on an automatic gratuity of 18% or so depending upon your bills total…and then when paying (electronically) you are asked to TIP AGAIN! BE AWARE!!!“

“Went for there 11-4pm special. Attendants at the front were pleasant and service at the bar was efficient and polite. Additionally, the tables, including the one I spent several hours on, all appeared to be in impeccable condition. Absolutely fantastic value for the money if you have a weekday off and I definitely plan on returning a regular basis.“

“I ordered an Al Pastor Torta. Lovely, it fits my expectations of a torta; a bollillo stuffed with re-fried beans, lettuce, onions, avocado, white cheese, and of course al pastor. It was not overfilled with mayonnaise, or cream, or soggy and falling apart from juices or fat, nor dry. It was well put together. My only critique is the choice of cheese, I prefer Queso fresco than the solid hard cheese, but I understand if they need to change cheeses due to economic reasons and if their audience prefers this cheese. Overall a good solid torta, they deserve this review and I hope this incentivizes others to go to their business.“

“I visited this location for the first time because I always thought it looked pretty nice from the outside. It has a really nice patio and it’s looks newer.

I walked inside and ordered a bowl. After a very long day of work I think a bowl it’s the way to go.

This location looked really clean and it wasn’t busy at the time. The food bar was clean, refilled, and all ingredients looked fresh.

I ordered the chicken with white rice, black beans, fajitas, corn, mild salsa, Pico de Gallo, lettuce, and Guacamole. Yum!

I truly appreciate Guacamole is included in the price and does not count as an extra! ;)“

“The food here is the same as the other qdobas, meaning it's good. I really enjoy being able to just sit down and eat food and have an actual healthy selection. Out of all the Qdobas in Wisconsin this is one of the calmest, but I do believe it's because the mall is right across the street and takes 90% of the crowd. But overall I say this Qdoba gets a 7.5/10“

“The food is authentic Mexican, delicious and reasonably priced. The dining room is small, nicely decorated and clean. I had a Mexican style pastor taco with pineapple and a pork tamale with red sauce. My companion had enchiladas w/ green sauce, rice and beans. Complimentary chips and salsa are brought to your table. You order and pay at a counter, and bottled and canned beverages are available to purchase in a frig there. If you're eating on site your food is delivered to the adjacent dining room when it's ready (along with 2 squeeze bottles of red and green sauce). It appears that the majority of their business is take out. They don't have a liquor license so sadly we couldn't have cervezas with our lunch but that won't keep us away. We'll definitely be back ~ thank you!“

So, instead of charging us the dinner price we got À la carte price, three tacos without rice and beans $2-3 more expensive than the dinner. I had #16! The white rice and beans, with the chicharrones, a thinly cut steak, a sausage chorizo, salad, plantains, and a taste of the yuca frita. OH MY OH MY OH MY!!! My hope really is that this place makes it for years to come and expands to other parts of the city! The design of the place has a vibe that invites you in to stay awhile. To enjoy the flavors of the food entries offered. Each one I have to imagine just as good as what I had. This being my first time there I left with a happy heart and a happy tummy! “Last night we had a large party for a 60th birthday. The food and drinks where delicious as always. Especially the seafood enchilada and mango margarita!! Our server, Madison, was absolutely outstanding. She handled our party of 22 like a pro. Everything went like clockwork and she was attentive, anticipatory and really friendly. She is a TRUE asset to your restaurant. Especially because she handled it all by herself!! The food runner was also courteous and efficient, quickly getting everyone their dishes. And the fact that your kitchen can get that many orders spot on, without error, and out all at once is amazing. Our running group loves your restaurant so much.
