“My job was going to take me to Bay Minette and I decided I would get some seafood. I researched a few places the night before and learned that the Shrimp Basket offered a free starter in their app.
That sounded like a winner to me, although you had to dine in to use the reward. I usually grab chicken tenders and eat on the road as I have limited time. I was concerned about dining in.

When I arrived around 2 pm, 4 tables were in use and two hadn't received their food yet. The waitress pointed out a small table to me and I sat down noticing it hadn't been cleaned. She came over, noticed and cleaned it. She took my drink order and I asked if service was fast as I had a limited amount of time. I was planning on 30-45 minutes. She said it depends on what I order. When I replied shrimp, she said it wouldn't be long. She left the menu and I made my choices.

I was still waiting for my tea when the only other waitress came over and asked what I was drinking. My tea finally came out. She placed it on the table and left to take another order. I had been ready to order. She finally came back.

It took her longer than I expected and she didn't move with any urgency. I placed my order and said I'd also like a slice of key lime pie. I figured if I ordered it now I wouldn't have to wait. I thought wrong.

I thought maybe I am trying to be in too much of a hurry. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be on vacation. The waitress kept stopping to chat with some customers. I figured they must be regulars and I can understand a hometown vibe, but I had mentioned it was my first time there and in a hurry. I would think a good first impression would be a goal.

Finally, the food came out, but no fries. Since they weren't cooked I told her nevermind. And I didn't see the pie. I probably should have said something then, but I figured it would be out in her next run.

She never checked on me or asked about refills. But she did spend a lot of time in the kitchen and chatting. I was done with my meal before I saw her again and could ask about my pie. It apparently takes awhile to get a slice of pie out of the fridge. It was good, as was the rest of my meal, but the pie was pretty cold. I began wondering if it was store bought and had been in the freezer. I can't imagine a fridge keeping food that cold.

When she brought the pie, I had my credit card on the table, hoping to signal that I was ready for the check. It didn't work. When she did bring the check, I had been charged for my free starter. She had to fix that. I did hang into my card to make sure the charges were correct knowing that would cause her to make another trip and increase my time there.

When she brought the check, she did ask if I wanted a drink to go. My quick meal took just over an hour. Longer than I wanted. The food was good, the waitress polite, but I didn't really feel any hometown welcome. I was a bit disappointed as sitting down for a meal was to be a treat for me.“
