“Stopped in for lunch with my toddler and sat outside. Staff was super friendly and welcoming, which was a nice start. Food-wise…it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but definitely not the worst either. I’d eat here again.

The kid’s corn dogs were a hit and my daughter devoured them. Fries were very salty (which I actually love), but a bit much for my toddler, so I kept those to myself. The egg rolls were just okay, like a 3/5. They needed a better dipping sauce…. not sure what exactly, but the ones that came with it were kinda blah.

Wings had good flavor, but they had that weird fridge taste… might’ve just been me. I took them home, tossed them in some hot BBQ sauce, hit them with the air fryer, and they turned out pretty tasty.

Sitting outside was fine, but a few patio fans would’ve helped with the heat. There were a lot of flies, but hey….. that’s just outdoor dining sometimes.

Oh and when it’s time to pay, you have to pay on their handheld device and it’s just annoying to me. It’s 2025, just give me a receipt with a QR Code to scan (with exception of paying cash).

“This past Saturday, I treated myself to a me date a day dedicated entirely to myself. After indulging in a relaxing one-hour massage, I found myself absolutely starving. Wanting to try something new, I continued my exploration of Homewood’s restaurant scene and landed on The Battery. I met my aunt there for lunch, and as soon as we arrived, I knew we were in for a treat. The place was packed inside and out which is usually a great sign. After about a 15 minute wait, we were seated. The interior had a modern, inviting atmosphere, and the service was excellent. Our waiter was incredibly kind, answered all of my questions, and I never once had to ask for a refill. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was impressively quick, and every dish arrived hot. Appetizers Buffalo Wings – The wings were well-sauced and smoked to perfection, with the meat falling off the bone effortlessly. However, the biggest letdown was the lack of seasoning. While the smoky flavor was great, the wings themselves needed more depth. 7.9/10 (With proper seasoning, this would easily be in the high 8s or even a 9). Queso & Chips – The chips were fresh, crunchy, and unseasoned but still did the job. The queso had potential, but it lacked the bold flavors needed to truly stand out. It wasn’t bad, but it could have been much better. 6/10 Entrées & Sides Wedge Salad – The salad itself was solid, but the bacon was a miss. It had an overpowering liquid smoke taste, leaving a strange aftertaste and smell. 7/10 Fries – These were outstanding hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. I also appreciated the variety of cuts and shapes. 8.5/10 Smash Burger – A well-executed smash burger with that signature crispy edge and juicy interior. However, the meat itself wasn’t seasoned, which held it back from being exceptional. 8/10 Final Thoughts Overall, The Battery was a great experience, and I’d happily return. The biggest downside was the lack of seasoning across multiple dishes. If they improved that, their food would easily score even higher. That said, I still highly recommend trying this place. Final Rating: 8/10 Service: 10/10 – Absolutely fantastic staff! Would I go back? Without a doubt.”

My entire family (5 & 8 year old) both loved their meals, along with my husband and I. The staff was so accommodating and helpful, and just went the extra mile to make sure my one daughter was happy. The owner ( I think it was the owner--it was very loud and I couldn't hear him, but he appeared at our table of six at least twice) was super attentive and has a kind demeanor. I will be back.”

“I couldn’t wait to get home to give this place one star. I was under the impression by some of the pics that the fried rice came with some type of veggie like peas and carrots . Just onion and the greens onions they had to add after the fact . However, my attitude changed once I tasted the food ! I was surprised at how good it taste . Veggies were cooked very well and everything overall had a great taste . I don’t even eat the brown sauce that came with it but as I type I’m tearing it up! Lol Not my first choice for Chinese just due to personal preference (I like my veggies in my friend rice!) . Also I’m use to a larger portion size for what I paid (a little over $16 ) but this was definitely a hit ! The front lady was every patient cause I knew she could tell I was disappointed. I did not try to hide . I will be back to try some other items now that I l now what to expect ! By the way I got the house friend rice and steam veggie plate.”

“Casual comfort food. The chicken kabob and gyro plate are excellent , good portions and a quality meal. I love the big baker for nights when you need a hug…simple goodness and I like to add gyro meat. Burgers, Gyros and fries are solid and the chick in a sack is a family favorite. Pita and hummus are delicious and the mint iced tea is a treat. This is a great meal in a chill environment.”

“I was genuinely excited to try this restaurant after passing by it so many times while traveling through Downtown Homewood. Unfortunately, my experience was a bit of a letdown. That said, it wasn’t terrible by any means, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. A friend and I dined here together as most of my readers know, I often bring someone along for reviews to offer more than just my own perspective. Appetizer: We started with the Tallulah Wings, opting for the Sweet Heat Dry Rub with Alabama White BBQ sauce. The first surprise was that the wings arrived already coated in the sauce. In my opinion, when a sauce is meant as a dip, it’s best served on the side, not as a coating. Unfortunately, the wings themselves were quite underseasoned it reminded me of drinking a LaCroix, with just a faint whisper of the sweet heat flavor. That said, the little flavor I could taste had a nostalgic charm, reminiscent of Golden Flake potato chips and those are undeniably delicious. I just wish the wings had packed more of a punch. Entrée: Next, we tried the Social Stack, essentially their version of a McDonald's Big Mac. I have to say, it was significantly better than a Big Mac. The sauce was flavorful, the patties were fresh and well-seasoned, and everything came together beautifully. It’s a rich burger, but the crispy, seasoned fries helped balance that richness. The freshness and flavor made this burger a standout I’d absolutely order it again. If it weren’t for the disappointing wings, this meal would have earned a solid 4 out of 5 stars. As it stands, I’m giving it 3 out of 5. However, I do plan to return and explore more of their menu. I believe there’s potential here, and I’m hopeful my next visit will be a more satisfying experience.”

“I visited Neighbor’s today with three kids that I babysit after a trip to the park across the street. We had visited a few times before, so I recognized the man working behind the counter. He greeted us kindly and got the kids their ice creams. When it came time to pay, I went to tap and my card declined. This is where Neighbors stands out. The young man behind the counter said it was okay, and to just repay them when I returned. I definitely should have planned better and brought cash, but the kindness that he demonstrated is what makes Neighbors stay true to their name. (I did return and pay not even 20 minutes later with some cash I had in my car)”

“Okay as someone who LOVES acai bowls and have had them at multiple different places in different cities, I must admit that Farm Bowl and Juice Company has the best and cutest açaí bowls I've ever had! I've been twice so far since the opening and it taste amazing, I wish I could afford to eat it every single day! I love the atmosphere as well. I normally go to other juice bars and açaí places in Tuscaloosa, but Farm Bowls is so much closer to my home. So between it being close to home, the best açaí bowls ever, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere, I am SOLD!”

“My family has been ordering petit fours from Savages for as long as I can remember. We've had them at every baby shower, and wedding tea. I'm very sad to hear they are shutting the doors!
Is it wrong of me to ask about the recipe? Does it have almond extract in just the coating or both the cake and coating? Or do they use almond bark in the coating? Enquiring minds want to know! Very tender greens seasoned with light garlic sauce. Love loved the greens. I also ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. Very tasty lightly spiced with, peanuts, mushrooms and zucchini in a light sauce. All Came with 2 orders of steamed rice and was packaged to go, as I was traveling back to MS. I enjoyed a chicken egg roll that was fresh and filled with lots of chicken in a crispy roll and was hot. Could have ate a second one. Everything was remarkably delicious and the young lady who took my order was patient and explained the different dishes. This was my second time to order from Mr. Chen’s. I dined in the first time. The Restaurant is tastefully decorated and is uniquely located inside the Homewood Chinese Grocery Store. Next time I go to Birmingham I want to purchase some of the produce and other items that appeared fresh and healthy from the store, which had an abundance and variety of items not found in your typical grocery store. Well worth making a stop.”

“We didnt dine in. We stayed at a hotel close by (walking distance) I was so hungry after surgery. I got the club. My husband the Rubin. His only issue was it wasnt saucey enough but he really liked it. We also got soup. My only complaint was the bacon should be a little more crispy. He loved is broccoli cheddar soup.. otherwise....so so good. And the price was shocking. 2 sandwiches and 2 cups of soup ..less than 40.00...yes please!”

“Had a great meal: I had the three-hander and my friend and I split an order of half fries half onion petals. This was the way to go as both the fries and onion petals are great. The burger was also excellent. It does go to a bit loud in there, the acoustics seem a bit off, but other than that we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The bar tender that we had was super friendly and also great with suggestions from the menu. We will definitely visit again.”
