“Creamiest ice cream I've had in a long time. Cute store, lots of nostalgic candies, they have bubble gum candy machines in the back. Of course, we had to get quarters to buy those 5 secon flavour bubble gums that you can only blow a few bubbles before it gets so hard it locks your jawsRum & raisin was my poison of choice ?”
“Very nice spot with top notch service and excellent food. Very pleased with the meal we had there, the chicken and duck confit dishes we're prepared perfectly and presented with very tasty sides. A lovely little spot with a great view onto the bay.Parking: There are a number of parking spots immediately in front of and beside the restaurant, which is very handy since on-street parking can be very tight in that area.”
“So good! This is a walk up window with an outdoor seating area in front. It is a tiny mom and pop place, so it takes a little while but oh so worth it! Fresh and delicious. We had grilled halibut that was just perfect, mine on a yummy salad and hubby's on a sandwich with generous fries. Just fyi, there are picnic tables behind the marine museum a short walk from this place that are more spacious.”
“Because we are lucky enough to live in the beautiful Cowichan Valley we are at the Leeward Cafe on an almost weekly basis. The food is always scrumptious and the staff welcoming, friendly and courteous. We love the ambience of dining in the clean and cozy cafe but in fair weather we bring our own mugs, which the staff happily fill, and we sit on the quaint benches out back and enjoy the boats and birds. The Leeward Cafe and its sister business True Grain Bakery are delightful!”
“The chef prepares excellent meals with high quality ingredients. The menu is varied and one can't go wrong. Seafood is a highlight but the lamb, beef or chicken dishes are also excellent. The prices are very reasonable and overall it is hard to believe this quality is available in such a small centre off the beaten path. I might add the service was excellent also.Kid-friendliness: In the summer the outdoor patio dining is open with a chance for younger children to stretch their legs. Staff are very easy and friendly. Menu tends toward adult choices but there are some for kids.”
“Been quite awhile since I've been to a restaurant where I've left saying I would 100% return! And we would here!Food was delicious, the drinks were so good. And the waitress for our table was amazing! We will totally return and I highly recommend!”
“Great place, great food but if you get Mel as your server, ask for someone else. 0 personality, 0 sense of humour, 0 customer service. Get a job you like lady, seriously…not my first time with her as my server either…others are great though, just a heads up!”
“Aloha bowl I get the one that's with Avocado and extra veggies outstanding bowl and Ryan who manages it is impeccable with customer service a must if your in downtown Duncan !”
“I was very disappointed with my visit. I did not feel welcome the guy that was working had a bad attitude and seemed like he didn't want to be there. I would like to visit again on days he is not working.”
“It was a pleasant surprise to find such a nice Indian restuarant in Duncan of all places. Being an Indian, living in Surrey, I generally avoid eating Indian food when I come to the Island. However this time my buddies were craving Indian food, so we decided to give this place a try. Safe to say, this food can put most of the Surrey restaurants to shame! The food was fresh, homely and the staff were friendly. I recommend the goat curry which was really tender and well cooked. The prices were very reasonable too. If you are passing through Duncan, please give this place a try!”
“Just went with a group of people (to the Victoria Loacation), I had the Big Kahuna Burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had.I was hesitant about the Mango Ketchup but it was tasty. Will definitely go back and try more.Staff was friendly and even gave me a little tutorial on how to eat the burger as it is bigger than normal, the "burger bag" was a game changer.Go there, eat it. Be happy.”
“Great place.Jian’s sandwich’s are always excellent. The new benchmark for island service and food quality. Much more than just a bakery.. Particularly fond of the savoury scones, and miso cookies.. high quality bread, great crust and crumb. .”
“We were visiting from Victoria and grabbed a quick bite at the urban bistro. They have great choices for vegetarian and non vegetarian, perfect for us!We'll be back for sure! Thanks, J&”
“Well done Lum Lum It was great Yum Yum for my Tum Tum. I bet you’ll get that a lot lol?. The restaurant smelt amazing bathroom was clean!!! Also, the lady behind the front desk had a beautiful smile. Welcome to downtown Duncan!!! ?????”
“Perfect latte - not too sweet. Zero bitterness. 10/10. They get 5 stars just because it’s so hard to find a good latte. But ALSO their carrot cake scone was DIVINE.”
“Tucked away on Kenneth St down town Duncan. Such a quiet, calm, relaxing atmosphere, well decorated in cafe style with sufficient seating inside & out.An abundance of delicious fresh baked treats, breads, drinks & much more.Quality is superb & pricing is very fair. The gentleman & lady that served me were friendly throughout. This is a must visit if your wandering in town or just want to sip coffee & relax”
“Gluten free household here! We've tried every gluten-free pizza in this town and hands down, this crust was so good, we worried we got the wrong pizza! Created our own BBQ chicken with that garlic pizza sauce ... speechless. Price comparable to anywhere else you'd get a dry, thin, from-frozen GF crust at $26 before taxes and delivery fees. I can only assume it was made from scratch in-house - doughy, soft, crispy, and holds shape even with loaded toppings. Only waited probably half an hour for it to arrive through Door Dash. Y'all doing the Lord's work for Duncan's gluten-sensitive! I'd give it 10 stars if I could - we'll be ordering again for sure!Dietary restrictions: (See above) - gluten-free crust available in 12" size, which is more than enough for two people.”
“The Old Firehouse continues to be an amazing place with creative cocktails and delicious food! This community-minded business is well worth the visit, as always. Great for drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), appetizers, and gourmet meals of various sizes. Friendly, enthusiastic staff. Check it out!”
“Love the beers and their quaint little tasting room. We came during the winter, but would love to see it during summer. Even better was that it was walking distance from our AirBnB that we were staying at.”
“Crystal & her staff have an amazing little cafe. They are very personable & make you feel welcomed. The food is always packed with flavor & It’s never a disappointment when we get lunch or snacks. The price is very well worth what you get. I would suggest this place to anyone wanting real food with sustenance & made with passion/love.Great job ladies & thank you for being here for the community”
“Some of the best bread I've had recently, and their sandwiches are always delectable (although often large enough to send me into a food coma afterwards.) Good coffee, too.”
“Great beer made by passionate and creative brewmasters. The food is really delicious and the prices reflect their desire to make their warm and comfortable atmosphere inviting to everyone. The whole family is always welcome, even your pooch can tag along and enjoy their pet-popular patio. They even have cards, books and board games for those who are so inclined. All of the Red Arrow family I have met thus far have embraced me with a refreshingly thoughtful and friendly demeanour. Each and every one of them have proven time and again their willingness to go out of their way to appease and provide the best experience for me and my friends.Today I witnessed ‘Big Dog’ go the extra mile and then some - when he didn’t even blink at a customers request to bring one of the books home to finish. As I said, the Red Arrow is made up of a family of great people who are always going to put you first.”
“Excellent spot for really really good food. Burger was one of the best I’ve had and the Benny was delicious. Their side potatoes aren’t amazing so I’d skip those next time. The service isn’t fast (assuming because everything is made fresh and created with care) so don’t stop in if you’re in a big hurry. Heated patio and restaurant were full at 11am on a weekday so it’s a popular place. Turnover seems consistent though so not too long of a wait for a table. A definite must in Duncan as great food is hard to find there.”
“The food is always well prepared, service is always friendly and quick, and prices are quite reasonable. The steak fries and Coke really got rid of the grumpies today. Thank you!”
“I'll be honest, it took a few cups, but the unique flavor of Drum Roaster coffee has grown on me. I love sipping a a cup and sitting on their patio in the warmer months. A very community feeling atmosphere.”
“We hired Fresh Tandoori Indian Restaurant Royal Oak to do our event catering. They went above and beyond our expectations and the food was delicious the presentation of food was done very beautifully. I would highly recommend them for your next event big or small.”
“We had a delicious meal at the cafe this morning! The food was sooo tasty and made with fresh ingredients. The prices were very reasonable. Service was great and the atmosphere is funky! Love visiting this restaurant whenever we get over to the island for a visit?”
“Incredible experience!!! Such amazing staff!! Best crepes I’ve ever had!! They even split the sweet crepe without us even having to ask when the found out we were sharing it!!”
“Had a great breakfast this morn at this special café in the heart of Ganges. Chilaquiles and a deeeelicious (and quite pretty) latte. New owners José Barraza and family are working hard to diversify the menu con un sabor mexicano!”
“Happened to be in this area, and stopped by out of curiosity. Came in with no real expectations. I grabbed a breakfast sandwich, and it was truly one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve eaten. Everything from the toppings to the bun was on point. Will be back next time I’m in the area.”
