“Heard that the chef was from Miku. Some dishes resemble the dishes there, like oshi sushi & soba. Food is good especially the Soba Peperoncino. The citrus tone balances very well with the rest of the ingredients. Aburi chirashi tart is more for its presentation, not good for sharing. Clams are fresh. Prawns are standard.“

“Edomae sushi at a reasonable price. Popular sushi joint. Clean minimalist decor. 6pm reservation. My wife really enjoys coming here. I feel that they can better improve on their rice preparation as it's a bit gummy and mashed. It ought to be distinct, plump and glossy. The 90 minutes time limit is a bit tight but we happily oblige because we want to see this kind and hospitable husband and wife team succeed and serve more waiting customers.“

“Really enjoyed this Japanese spot!
The mentaiko udon was definitely my favorite – super rich and flavorful, and the little pops of roe in every bite were so satisfying. The noodles were chewy and cooked just right.
The chawanmushi (steamed egg) was amazing too – silky smooth with shrimp and salmon roe on top, which added a nice depth of flavor. So comforting when it’s warm!
The agedashi tofu had a great texture – they used firm tofu with a crispy outside and soft center, and the savory sauce brought everything together.
We also had the eel sushi roll, which was perfectly balanced – not too sweet, and the eel had a nice charred flavor.
And big shout-out to the staff – super kind and attentive. The whole dining experience felt cozy and welcoming. Definitely coming back!“

“Efficient service and great food! This was the perfect place to go on a cold day with a friend who we wanted to spend quality time with. The lack of noise meant we were able to have a good conversation and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Excellent value for the money. It's simple, solid, healthy and very clean. Loved the tempura, udon soup, teriyaki, sushi, sashimi and the big pot of tea!“

“We had a wonderful dining experience at this sushi bar. The food was exceptional, with incredibly fresh seafood that truly melts in your mouth. We ordered the sushi platter that came with an assortment of sushi and Chawammushi. The Chawanmushi was rich and comforting, and the uni was wonderfully fresh and delicate. The tempura was cooked to perfection—crispy yet light, not too greasy. Order the uni bombs to get the fresh uni in that light crispy tempura batter.
One standout dish was the slow-cooked braised beef, which was so tender it fell right off the bone. To finish the meal, the matcha crème brûlée was the perfect dessert—balanced, creamy, and not overly sweet.
Service was professional throughout the evening. One small note: cell service inside the restaurant is limited, so be sure to ask for the Wi-Fi password upon arrival.
Overall, this is a place we would happily return to and highly recommend for an elevated and memorable dining experience.“

“Really good aburi and special rolls!! Highly recommend the aburi tuna nigiri and try the other aburi nigiri to see which one you like the best. They have an awesome aburi platter as well. Special rolls are also really delicious, we've tried at least 6 of them and they never miss. Service was quick and attentive. The place feels like a premium hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant. Will be back for sure.“

“Tokyo Joe is one of my go-to sushi spots, and it never disappoints. I keep coming back because their sushi tastes truly authentic and reflects real Japanese quality. The ingredients are fresh, the rolls are well-balanced, and the flavors are consistently excellent.
On my most recent visit, I ordered one salmon avocado roll, two house rolls, two spicy salmon rolls, a dynamite roll, and an Alaska roll—all for just $65. That’s an amazing deal considering the quality and portion sizes.
The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which makes the dining experience even better. While the seating and service area is a bit tight, it doesn’t take away from the overall experience.
If you’re looking for authentic Japanese sushi at reasonable prices with great service, Tokyo Joe is definitely worth visiting.“

“My wife and I have eaten here frequently over the last 8 years or so. Despite likely changes in ownership the food has remained very good overall. Fish quality seems quite high and fresh. Their rolls are creative and there is an exhaustive menu of choices. Udon is comforting and their bentos are pretty good value with big portions. I often get the steveston Bento and it is ALOT of food but always very satiating. The last visit we had to the Richmond location was in early November 2025 and it was still very good. Will continue going here on our trips to the west coast.“

“Really enjoyed this sushi place. The food was very fresh and tasted great, especially the seafood. You can tell the quality is good and everything was prepared carefully.
The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, so it’s easy to relax and enjoy the meal. Service was friendly and attentive, and everything came out at a good pace.
Overall a great dining experience. Good food, good service, and a nice environment. Would definitely come back again.“
“I was surprised they did not have a lot of food items for “pick and go” like their store in Vancouver. This was my first time there so maybe this location just operates differently? We were there to pick up some rolls and sushi for lunch. Much smaller store than the one in Vancouver and staff were very nice and they did offer many other shelf-stable food items.“

“Absolutely sublime! The freshest sushi I've had in a long time, served with smiles and a bottomless pot of tasty green tea.
The spicy chopped scallop roll is to die for, totally delicious, but so is everything else we tried.
Blessings to all whom find themselves fortunate enough to land in this mini mecca of Steveston sushi greatness.“

“Ordered seafood salad and my gf loved it. Ordered a chicken teriyaki box for myself and the chicken came as fried. Weird. Never had teriyaki chicken this style before but I guess this might be a fusion attempt or something g. Just not used to it.“

“Tempera was very thick batter- not my preference so I would pass on the tempura.
The golden rule in California roll are delicious and generous in size and portion. I suggest the Macki combo great bang for your buck.
The tea they serve is quite weak, but I appreciate that it’s free of charge.“
