Inspired by the regional terroir and historic possibilities, Christian Schales planted his first vineyard in 1783 and started Weingut Schales. Fast forward to Bernd Schales and wife Stefanie whom directed a path over the pond and landed in the Okanagan in 2003. They purchased a small lot, grew grapes and produced for other wineries until they decided to acquire the Summerland acreage and facility to resume the Schales family legacy in Canada. “I know you are supposed to come to wineries for the wine and the wine at Dirty Laundry is delicious, we always buy a few to bring home BUT the food is phenomenal! I wanted to point this out because even if you don't like wine it is worth visiting for the food. Not all wineries have a great food options but Dirty Laundry is definitely one that does.

You just can't beat handmade pizza, amazing BBQ, wine and that view.

Dylan Roche (Burgundy, Chablis, New Zealand, Margaux) an avid cyclist wished to pursue becoming a cycle mechanic and tour guide in the idyllic countryside of Burgundy in 2000. Serendipitously, the alluring life of winemaking converted him to officially train in Beaune (2003). Pénélope Furt-Roche (6th generation Bordeaux winemaker of Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, Spain, New Zealand, Australia,Tasmania) grew up at the esteemed family estate in Bordeaux and at a young age learned the exquisite French tradition of winemaking with her Father Didier. The two merged paths in New Zealand whilst discovering Hawkes Bay during harvest and fell in love (original Hallmark story). “We were looking for a wine tasting in the region and this was the only winery we could find that was open (Dec 22nd 2025).
It was out first time here and no disappointment! The lady was really polite and kind. They charge $15 for a tasting of 5 wines or 4 sparkling wine. The good news is that they waive the tasting fee if you buy a bottle, which is a great deal.
Wines were good and tasting included a detailed explanation of each wine.
I recommend coming here for a great tasting!

“We visited Nichol Vineyard after a recommendation from a local. We had a lovely relaxed time, the manager/barman was excellent and down to earth. He was so kind he gave us a free bottle as it was our honeymoon!

“Stopped in for a tasting this past week and were quite impressed. Nicole did a great job of describing the flight of wines we were able to taste. We also enjoined meeting and chatting with a few of the owners who happened to be in the tasting room. Only suggestion is that it would be nice to be able to purchase a few simple nibbles to enjoy while tasting the wines. We did drive away with a selection of several bottles to enjoy with friends following our vacation.“

“We visited this winery 20 years ago when it just opened. We love the Boho, relaxed vibe back, then, and it endures still just like the VW van out front. Some very yummy wines to try in a relaxed manner. No tasting fee, which is nice. And if you decide not to buy a bottle, they encourage you to give a donation to the naramata school.
There are some nice outdoor tasting places and a little picnic area or you could bring some food and enjoy alongside their great wine.“

“Beautiful afternoon at Lake Breeze. The patio is stunning, with shaded seating, vineyard views, and a relaxed but polished atmosphere.

The food was excellent — especially the mussels, whipped feta, and chocolate dessert — and the Albariño was a perfect pairing. Warm service, gorgeous setting, and a very memorable Okanagan winery experience.“

“We went to Laughingstock for a wine tasting today. Our server, Vera, was lovely but so busy we didn't have a great experience. Apparently reservations are recommended. We walked in and were seated. Vera brought us our samples and then had to run to another table. We waited a long time for our next sample of mediocre wine. I'd rather they told us they were too busy to properly accommodate us. We could have spent out time at another winery that could give us their time and attention.“

“This place never disappoints in terms of the food and the patio. Pictured is the deconstructed blt- a featured starter and a chicken sandwich we split and they played separately for us without even asking. The view is kind of over there behind the sunflowers and you can see a sliver of lake back there somewhere - so don’t go for the lake view - there isn’t one - but if you want top end meal and a nice glass of wine then this is the place. Very popular on the wine tour circuit and they don’t take reservations unless for 8 or more so get there earlier than later for lunch and don’t be discouraged by the full parking lot - lots are only there for the tasting.“

“This is our favorite winery, whether it is celebrating a special occassion, looking for a great pizza and a glass of wine, or bringing guests for a wine tasting and some breathtaking photos. The wine is superb, some of the best in the Okanagan and the staff are incredibly well informed and work extremely hard to ensure you are having a fantastic experience. They have a restaurant on one side with fire grilled pizza, salads and casual dining and the wine tasting and patio. The view from Greata is the most beautiful part of the experience, there are many beautiful wineries but the unobstructed view while sitting out on the patio feels like you are at a private resort. Whether you are just staying for a tasting and a tour of the grounds or having lunch or dinner this is an unforgetable experience.“

We recently brought relatives here for a sit-down tasting experience, and Krista was our guide. She absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Krista curated thoughtful side-by-side comparisons that showcased the differences between vintage years, helping us appreciate the subtle nuances in each wine. She was incredibly engaging, sharing the background and history of the vineyard and winery with genuine enthusiasm. Her knowledge of the wines was impressive and added so much to the experience.

We love this winery’s story, their logo, and especially their motto: “Dreams don’t come true; dreams are made true.” It perfectly reflects the heart and effort behind everything they do.
