“Chef Jin is a master at his craft, blending traditional sushi with innovation and uniqueness, sharing with diners the rational for each dish. Dinner was full of surprises; hagashi otoro, madai in olive oil, sweet ensui Uni, and buttery-soft anago. Great ambiance and great food.“

“Are you looking for the best service, food, experience and want sushi? Well this place is by far the best sushi restaurant in BC I have ever had. The amount of stars I wish i could give this restaurant wont be enough compared to the night sky.
Firstly, I can't express how far and beyond they went to make us feel welcomed and treated us with professional services.
Secondly, the food. Where do I start... I was skeptical with the art sashimi where you decide how much you would like to pay for the chef to work with. I was speachless with what I got. A whole hobo fish sliced up with beautiful design and all the different Japanese and Canadian ingredients perfectly matched together. I appreciated the different plating too and including indigenous plates!
Lastly the price. Worth it. Don't be cheap. Spend it. Experience it. Stop spending $15 on your fast food restaurant and start saving for this experience.
Thank you to all the staff.
From Kelowna!“

“Beyond amazing really. Everything we ordered was off the scale in terms of taste, texture, temperature. One of the best meals we've had in the last 10 years. Can't recall what we ordered, but here are 2.
Nigiri set
King salmon (we had 2 of these..)
Countless other small bits and pieces.
The service was amazing, very Japanese, extremely friendly.
We left there elated, a complete food euphoria with tastes so amazing we talked about it for a while. One of the chefs my girlfriend reads up on says that he’s been following the Sushi Hill chef for a while and every time he eats there “my eyes roll into the back of my head”. We certainly had that feeling. Sadly we can now never again go to another sushi place in Vancouver lest we want to eat cold fish wrapped in rice and dead seaweed. But it’s a small price to pay. We’re already scheduled to go back April 12th.“

“I looked for new places to try on this trip to Vancouver. I usually end up at the same places every time so this time I decided to try new places. Sushi Okeya Kyujiro is a one-star Michelin restaurant, so I was eagerly looking forward to my visit.
Located in Yaletown on Mainland St, it is an intimate space with a small waiting area. The servers are dressed in kimono and greet you at the entrance. You are led into the U-shaped bar and there are black screens hiding the chefs and the workspace from the diners. Once all diners have been seated and served their choice of drinks, the screens rise, and the performance begins.
Lunch consists of fifteen courses for $180CAD. Dinner consists of twenty courses for $325CAD. I went for lunch as that was the only reservation I could secure on the desired date.
Each course is a piece of art, and you are requested to consume it within 10 seconds of it being presented to you. The servers explain each item as they are presented. There is a main chef and two subsidiary chefs working on the pieces of sushi.
The first course was a trio of appetizers, followed by chawanmushi, then eight pieces of nigiri sushi, a bowl of ikura and crabmeat, a bowl of soba with pieces of Wagyu, then a piece of maki sushi, and a slice of tamago. The finale was dessert consisting of red bean with mochi and a green tea ice cream sandwich.
I had two glasses of beer (one rice, the other yuzu) with my meal. Interestingly, there are no menus … The servers explain the five kinds of beer, and the different wines and sake available. The total came to $220.05CAD + tip. This was arguably the finest omakase I have experienced. I cannot wait to try dinner and there are locations in Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto so my next visit might be to Montreal.“

“We went to ASA sushi last year at the end of the day during the Canada Day long weekend. It was a delightful surprise! We’re visiting the city, and it was definitely the freshest and most delicious sashimi I’ve ever had. Everything was well-prepared and delicious. I always say that I want to go back someday when I’m in Vancouver again.“

“One of the best sushi spots in Vancouver! The fish is so fresh and love how they present the dishes. On top of presentation, the flavours were definitely there. My partner and I got the salmon hako and the black dragon roll. Very delicious and melts in your mouth. Overall amazing experience!“

“I came to Vancouver with family as a visitor on spring break, and one thing I really wanted to do was have sushi in this city. We decided to try out Sushi Howe, as it was walking distance from my hotel. We were not disappointed! This place is located beside the Tim Hortons on Davie St, so you can’t miss it.
As an appetizer, we ordered assorted tempura and sashimi.
As a meal, I ordered 8 dragon rolls for ~$16, and I could tell the ingredients were high quality. My dad got a bento box. It included 8 pieces of sushi, teriyaki beef, 2 spring rolls, a few pieces of tempura and salad, all for $16. Every bite of it was splendid. Even the salad dressing was amazing! My mom ordered two platters of spring rolls (about 12 in total). Again, it was amazing. I liked having some, and I’m not even big on spring rolls! We got one more plate of beef teriyaki as well.
The restaurant has a beautiful, cozy atmosphere. The staff are amazing people, and we felt at home the second we walked in.
In total, we spent $82 (Including taxes) and gave a 20% tip. I think we spent less than we would have if we ate at McDonald’s or Edo. The value we got for our buck is amazing, especially considering this place is in downtown Vancouver. We came home with 3 takeout plates, that’s how much food we had!
Don’t go to Edo, go to Sushi Howe!
Thanks for making our trip memorable!“

“Stopped by this place in Vancouver and seems like all the bad comments are just too old now. The restaurant might have gone through changes and they're positive. The food was fresh, clean, and delicious! You can tell it was very authentic too! The owner was very nice and the vibes felt like home. Thanks for the great food 😊“

“Excellent sushi, except they pre mix mayo in the real crab. I wanted a real crab California roll, no mayo, it ruins the taste of the sweet crab, and I'm allergic to eggs. 😊
Dietary restrictions: They do have GF soy sauce and can do egg and dairy allergies“

“After hearing about this place, I’ve wanted to visit, and I finally had the chance to do so. The owner and staff greeted me warmly, which made me feel comfortable.
The Miso Soup wasn’t too salty, which I liked, and the dressing on the fried chicken and vegetables complemented the dish really well, making it delicious.
The Salmon Aburi melted in my mouth as soon as I took a bite. It was so tender and flavorful.
Next time, I’d like to try the CUPBOP.
A note: The sign is small, so you might miss it if you’re not paying attention. It’s a good idea to keep your eyes open and look carefully when you’re nearby.“

“Pleasantly surprised at this accidental find when the place we were planning to go to was closed! Cozy space with tasty fresh food that was beautifully presented with good value and generous portions (had lots of leftovers). Highlights were the chicken karaage, which was super tender/moist (like Korean style) and the melt in your mouth fresh sockeye salmon sashimi. The pumpkin croquettes were perfectly crisp, but the pumpkin spice flavour was unexpected and while not unpleasant, a bit too dessert-like for my preference. Service was also outstanding... another pleasant surprise as it seems hit & miss elsewhere these days. Will definitely be back!“

“I was pleasantly surprised by this quaint small sushi restaurant on South Granville. In short, their sushi is amazingly good—great value for the price. They've also created some interesting types of sushi combinations (they are Korean-operated, not Japanese, and I find that Korean sushi is usually innovative). Service is decent; as it's a small restaurant, they do a lot of takeout and app delivery. I really recommend it; I can't wait to return.“

“Wonderful sushi. They had Uni Nigiri at a very reasonable price. Saba Nigiri had Yuzu leaves on the top (not just green onion pieces) - that was a nice touch. Also real crab meat California Roll was very tasty. In addition, each piece of Nigiri sushi had a bit of wasabi underneath. That was excellent. I love this sushi spot. I will be returning.“

“A small neighborhood restaurant run by a Japanese chef. The sashimi was fresh, and the miso soup was full of seaweed and not as salty as at many other restaurants. The Love Roll was nicely plated, aromatic, and lightly sour, perfect for summer. The skin of the BBQ salmon belly was crispy, and the fatty meat melted in my mouth. You can't resist the smell.“

“I come to this quaint little grocery store about once a week I love how they stock fun Japanese foods for my family and I. We also like the ready made foods most of the time. The best part of this place is not only how convenient it is, but also the friendly, happy and full of knowledge staff. One lady in particular really stands out. She seems to know everything and is always friendly and considerate. (More so then the other staff) Her name is Miki, its always a pleasure seeing her. I assumed she was the shop owner because of how she carries herself, Very good job Miki, and I recommend this shop due to her kindness and the good to go tasty food. I only wish there was Kaarage to go too. Maybe one day. Thanks!“

“Nice spot for takeout and a few well placed tables to dine in safely. I had the chef's special for lunch today. Teriyaki salmon with spicy tuna roll and miso soup. Yum.
Update: Grabbed some takeout last night and I think this is the best place for fresh sushi/sashimi in the neighbourhood. The best.
November 2024 update: Still the best, just had a delicious seafood salad and the sashimi was fresh and plentiful.“

“Very creative menu!! Would like to return to try other creations. Esp the sushi-hotdog?.
Quaint lil place! Friendly service.
I tried the 'sexy roll' i.e. avo, cream cheese, prawn tempura, yam flakes, blueberry sauce. Everything was fine, except I decided I personally prefer to keep sweet flavours separate from the saltier ones (yam is an exception).“

“The sashimi and OMG roll were mind blowingly good. I really prefer smaller places that feel worn in as opposed to too-bright chrome and glass, so this was a treat. If they pulled one of the tables for two out of the main room it would probably feel a lot better in there...Yep. Even so, I wish I were in town long enough to do a second visit.“

“Sushi was really fresh. Service was amazing. Felt like you were being cared for by a nice relative. I liked the green tea thermos right at the table for convenience. We had the rainbow roll, dynamite roll and assorted tempura. All were amazing. Lots of tobiko on the rainbow roll. Tempura was varied including long mushrooms which were delicious and new to me. The restaurant wasn’t super clean and needs an overhaul but lots of sushi places are like this and in terms of the tables and chairs and eating utensils all those things were clean. I would come here again!“
