“Highly recommend Avalon Grille at Catalina Island for anyone visiting the island. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is inviting, and the service is exceptional (our waitress Angelina is very sweet and thoughtful). I accidentally left my credit card there, and the manager went out of their way to bring it to me at the dock. Talk about rave service!“

“Excellent spot to spend a few hours and enjoy the sun when visiting Catalina Island. We got to the island in the morning and explored via the golf cart rental and after headed over to the beach club. Good vibe and music playing with very friendly staff. We had an issue with someone taking our chairs however the staff smoothened that over promptly so no issues for us.Useful tip: Book your seats in advance as it can get full fairly quickly in the weeks leading up to your planned trip. Will visit again when I go to Catalina Island.“

“Right on the shore. It’s fresh, made to order. The fish n chips and shrimp n chips are fresh and delicious. My friend did get a hot dog and they put a pickle on it, so if you hate pickles make sure to tell them no pickles. The tartar and cocktail sauce are delicious. Great atmosphere and they do have sitting outside to watch people and enjoy a nice lunch. They are tons of stuff on their menu.“

“I am usually very self conscious in a new restaurant due to my being a vegan goofball... I usually tend to simply go for a quick easy app as to not ask for too much manipulation of the menu items. But my co worker asked the gentleman serving us what kind of veggie/vegan foods they have on my behalf which made me blush. He perked up and went through the ingredients in his mind and offered such a beautiful idea and solution for a meal. I was TRULY grateful for their kindness and that FANTASTIC Fajitas burrito!Gahh... Covered in green sauce and avocado on top... Mmm... With SOOOOO much like!Tremendous adoration for this place!?“

“Didn't get food but my friends did. They enjoyed the breakfast burritos and sandwiches. The staff was also very friendly and very helpful. They went above and beyond when I needed help with something personal. The views are beautiful and the restrooms are nice and clean. The fireplace was welcoming and cozy. Cookies were not soft like I was hoping, but my friends still liked them.“

“My spouse and I decided to stop here for breakfast after our hour and a half boat ride on the Catalina Flyer around 10am. Food was fantastic. Definitely hit the spot after not eating all morning. Everything tasted fresh and made to order. However, the service was not so great. We felt very rushed and not personable. We were also shoved into a corner in a room that was very warm with no fresh air. And lastly, the price was a little too high for the quality of the experience. Otherwise, we would dine here again.“

“Marjorie, our server, was one of the best servers I've had...EVER. She was easy-going, friendly, flexible, attentive to both adults and kids. She made great suggestions for the food and drink. Can't wait to go back there on my next visit to Catalina Island.Kid-friendliness: Our server checked in with us before letting the kids order sodas and other un-healthy choices...I love that! Although this restaurant gives the upscale vibe, I thought my kids were treated great and most welcome to be there!“

“First time visiting the island and I read the Yelp reviews and decided this is where I wanted to go for a bite to eat before we rented a golf cart. My husband and I shared the ahi poke nachos since this is one of our favorites to order. The nachos were good. We only wish there was a bit more ahi and avocado to ensure each wonton chip had at least a piece of ahi and a piece of avocado on it. We would have also wanted a bit more heat like maybe a wasabi sauce or siracha. The restaurant is very small, mostly a small patio area seating with bar seating inside. Overall we really enjoyed our light lunch and the view and we will definitely return to try more eats on their menu.“

“Service was great , we were seated promptly without a reservation. The firecracker shrimp was delicious! Nicer seasoned with great flavors. The salmon was a great portion size along with the mashed potatoes, would have liked more broccoli but that’s my only negative criticism. The steak was cook really well, juicy ,succulent, and buttery taste. The piña colada had great balance of rum and coconut mix. Also everything was nicely priced for portions and taste.“

“To be clear, my visit was in the off-off season of post New Years Eve when there were only 2 or 3 restaurants open in all of Avalon after 4 pm. Larry's was the only thing open on the concourse except for a couple of take-out places.I understood from a local that, since Covid basically shut down the island's tourism, getting and keeping workers has been a huge challenge. Especially in the winter, when many return to their homes for holidays (taking 4-6 weeks off). This is not all that surprising given the high cost of living on the island when reduced hourly work might not pay the bills. So with that said, Luau Larry's was absolutely doing the best they could with only the cook, one waitress, and the bar tender. <nobody to clear tables, bar-back or even wash the dishes!>. So, I'm rating the service at 4* even though our experience was more like 2* because we totally understood they were doing a herculean effort to keep up. Even after 10 hours on the job (non-stop since lunch, she said), our server was friendly.Same with food. My coconut shrimp with Cole slaw was tasty enough (fairly standard bar fare) arrived cold, but the sweet potato fries were excellent. Their signature Buffalo Burger was a bit over cooked to my friend's taste but was good. The place is fun, I'm sure it's a lively place in season. There are a few large tables up front to accommodate groups and families, several tables in the back and a long bar (where you can order food) which seats 20 or so. Apparently the have have live music sometimes.I would go again, in better times; but if all the other places were open, it would be a second choice for supper. The place is certainly a 'feature' of the island, so do try it for a cold beer after the beach, or a burger when you are feeling it.“
