From the spicy edamame appetizer to the complimentary miso soup, every bite is spectacular. What stands out most is the consistency. We’ve been here at least 10 times, and each visit has delivered the same exceptional quality and flavor. That level of consistency is rare and something we truly appreciate.
The service is also unique in the best way. Servers seem to work as a team. You might not have the same person bring your food or check in, but someone is always taking care of you. It’s clear the focus is on making sure the customer is always attended to, and it works beautifully.
Huge shout out to the cooks! Their attention to flavor and quality shows in every dish. And equally important, the cleanliness of both the restaurant and the bathrooms is always top-notch. That says a lot about how the place is run.

The spicy level was perfect, made my lips and mouth tingle but didn't over power the sandwich, and slaw was cold and fresh. Large portion of fries with seasoning of some sort and they were delicious. You could probably split an order of fries because the sandwich is so big, you'll end up stuffed at the end if you finish both. I was kind of annoyed that they charge a $1 for a cup of sauce, but it didn't take away from everything else. House music type vibe inside, on the louder side but you can still have conversations at the tables. Overall I really enjoyed this place and would recommend it 👌”

“Stopped here while I'm visiting the town. I sampled their English Toffee ice cream. That's a winner if you can have nuts. Big chunks of toffee. Got a pint of that. They only sell pints in their special plastic containers so it's a bit pricey but you only live once. If I was going to eat it right away I would have just purchased a cone which seemed like the best deal. I also bought one of each flavor of chews they make. They do sell them individually. 8 in total. Though they do have 3 Sugar free ones too. I loved the Caramel and the Peanut Butter the best. Peppermint a close 3rd. Then, in their freezer section they do carry containers of half gallon ice cream but those do not fit in my RV freezer unfortunately, As well as, frozen bananas covered in chocolate and some in nuts and have Dubai Chocolate bars filled with Pistachio ice cream. Those sounded better than they were. The pistachio ice cream wasn't very flavorful. It's one of my favorite flavors of ice cream too so I had high expectations. And for $10.25. Just not worth it at all. So, that was a bummer. So all and all would recommend coming here for a cone or sundae and some chews if you're into that.”

Just add a bag of salad to the portion they gave you and you have a full meal for under $100 that feeds (8)!! The portions are so big and I had a ton of leftovers because I only fed (3). We ate on it all week!! Good choice and soooo delicious!”

“We celebrated my birthday on taco Tuesday & we also participated in the line dancing after dinner in their brand new venue. It was rustic with a timeless, vintage flair. The line dancing was family friendly and so much fun. I had the steak salad. It was solid! Good size steak medallions in a super fresh bed of lettuce and assorted veggies including tomatoes and beets with home made blue cheese dressing. Our daughter who almost never finishes any of her meals consumed most of her taco salad which was a generous serving. She couldn’t stop telling us how good it was! Papa had the very flavorful ground beef tacos with a side of perfectly seasoned potato salad. We ordered a side of carne asada tacos which were a little on the dry and salty side. Although the place was very busy our server was very attentive and recommended their Ribeye special on Thursdays…so, we made it out again tonight to celebrate our anniversary. We both had the amazing ribeye special and boy was it special! Salad was once again so fresh and tasty. The baked potato and sweet potato fries were melt in your mouth yum. The rolls were toasted yet so tender. The steaks were seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. No need for any condiments on these steaks. We thought it would be good but not that good! Salute to the outstanding chefs! Our server Jasmine was also very attentive and made us feel at home. We ate in the newly extended covered patio which was very inviting but could use better lighting on the outskirts of the patio. We are looking forward to trying the fish Friday specials including shrimp tacos next! Thank you Ethel’s for the outstanding service and for serving up heartwarming meals!”

“There are some really good things to share with you and unfortunately, quite a bit of bad. Starting with an awkward arrival process, service went downhill fast and stayed there - earning a 10% tip. Upon arrival, the hostess seemed flustered and instead of leading us to our table, she pointed where to go and said she would be there to bring "um, uh, umm" and I completed the sentence with - MENUS. "Yes, menus". They were brought promptly. Putting a drink order in......well, that wasn't so prompt. We both ordered iced tea, one regular and one raspberry. They were served to us reversed. Both of us got a surprise drink before swapping glasses. From time of order to food delivery was good and eggs were nice, hot and freshly cooked. Once the food was dropped off, we would never see our server again. There would be no checking to see if we needed anything or ask how the food tasted so far. We had to flag down another server for refills and to ask for butter. A third person handled the transaction with her iPad. She was walking by and noticed us sitting there with empty plates and glasses. Very disappointing service - start to finish. The Food: The chili verde omelette was fantastic and better than some of our other breakfast faves. The fruit was also very fresh. The chicken fried steak premade and fried - not dredged and breaded on premise. The hash browns are not made with fresh potatoes grated on premise like most top breakfast spots. These potatoes are rehydrated and fried. In an oddity, I chose a biscuit as my bread choice and that usually includes gravy. This was served as - just a biscuit. No jelly, no butter, no gravy. The food was good enough that we'll return and try again.”

The parking lot is well lit, and theres a Taco truck right outside with their own seating area, or you can take your food into the bar. The only downside is that it's kind of dated inside.”

I also enjoyed the brownie dessert that was topped with ice cream and scooped whipped cream. Oh my goodness gracious delectable. “We visited La Costa Mariscos and overall had a pleasant experience at first. The food was good, especially the steak fajitas, and the drinks were enjoyable as well. The live music was a lovely surprise; the gentleman playing guitar and singing romantic songs really added a sweet, charming atmosphere to our evening.
The service itself wasn’t bad, but I was expecting it to be faster and a bit more attentive. Even so, the good food and music initially made us consider giving the place a second chance.
However, after our visit, I decided to give them my feedback so I read more customer reviews and came across several comments from other guests mentioning sightings of roaches. Finding multiple reviews with similar concerns is very unsettling and disappointing. Because of that, we’ve decided not to give the restaurant a second opportunity. Cleanliness is extremely important, and it’s unfortunate to see repeated complaints about this issue.
I hope the restaurant addresses these concerns, because the food and atmosphere have a lot of potential—but cleanliness and proper maintenance are non-negotiable for us!”

They are not skimpy but generous to a fault in my opinion than most restaurants will offer and topped with ripe avocado slices! We were served both tostada style tortillas and saltine crackers and napkins and soup size spoons. The 32 oz tall cup was rimmed with Michelada Sal con Chile! PERFECTION in a cup. The proprietors are clean cut, nice uniforms and very accommodating and friendly and bilingual. We will return because there was nothing preventing us from becoming repeat loyal customers. The menu is extensive too! Bravo! Enthusiastic thumbs up! Well done! The 32 oz was large enough for 2 people to be satisfied (on this occasion). Try them once I guarantee you will be satisfied too”

“Just sharing a quick review of a new venue for us. Every town has their local gem whether it be a restaurant or a venue or even a park. We were invited to STARS, a local small dinner-theater in old downtown Bakersfield to see the production of, In The Heights. Think Lin-Manuel Miranda from Hamilton. Wow! They have a newly decorated bar & lounge where the vibe is spot-on 1930s style. The theater itself has various levels w/linen covered dining tables & everyone has a great view of the stage. The dinner: green salad, dinner rolls & nice entrées + yummy desserts. We chose tri-tip & it was very good. The service was exceptional. The production, all local talent, the singing, dancing & the acting …they did NOT disappoint. Some stood out with exceptional talent. Lin-Manuel Miranda would’ve been very proud of this production. The city of Bakersfield should be very proud of this local gem & I’m sure they are. We are definitely returning as the upcoming shows look to be equally delightful & entertaining. Sadly, not many dinner theaters around anymore. The band was so smooth even though you know they’re there, the meshing of the show numbers & the music was seamless. Met with smiles at the window, I had questions beyond my Spanish capabilities and the lovely woman’s english, yet the cook/owner/ man behind the counter was so descriptive and patient. Tuesday had tacos for a Buck!! So I ordered some carne asada and el pastor. I also needed to try the rice and beans, they tell a lot about a business. We added two canned Pepsis and for under $15 fed both of us well. The asada tacos were perfection!! Melt in your mouth perfection, the produce was fresh, the salsa was dynamite, and I could have put down a dozen. El Pastor was delicious only dimmed by the excellence of the asada. Then the tell all… the rice and beans l… they were done by a perfectionist taught by a grandmother, or Abuela in this case. Whole pinto “pot” beans were seasoned to perfection and the rice was what I’ve been searching for since my favorite restaurant closed a few years back. If you haven’t tried this truck, Do It! After hearing the love coming from the cook as he described what things were, I’m coming back, going back, may never leave. There’s so much more I need to experience. I’ll keep you posted. Our server, Maya, was absolutely fantastic; she genuinely cared about making sure we had a great time. Her attentive service when taking our orders, her knowledge of the menu, and quick drink refills truly showed her dedication. Mr. Nathaniel even stopped by our table to check on us, providing thoughtful and sincere service that added a personal, caring touch. While other staff members are likely to offer similar kindness, I especially recommend asking for Maya and Mr. Nathaniel for a truly memorable meal. Don’t forget to sign up for their rewards program, as Maya suggested—you can start earning rewards on your visit and use them right away! The atmosphere here is warm, friendly, and inviting, from the moment you park in a clean, well-lit parking lot to when you head to the clean, well-stocked bathroom. You could probably split an order of fries because the sandwich is so big, you'll end up stuffed at the end if you finish both. I was kind of annoyed that they charge a $1 for a cup of sauce, but it didn't take away from everything else. “Beat pizza place in Bakersfield I’ve been to. Noteworthy: nice counter girl, fantastic crispy pizza with even portioned toppings and not greasy, clean fun atmosphere, punching bag game. Will definitely go back and highly recommend the Mckinley Combo pizza and Mountain Fries (potato wedges). I like how they leave the boxes by the counter where u can grab one if needed.”
