“So bomb!!! Service is A+ and the food is delicious. Love stopping in for lunch during the week. Very affordable also...“
“No parking. No place to eat. Sushi isn't meant to be delivered in my opinion. You have to order online. Their QRcode on the door is outdated and doesn't actually take your order. Price doesn't really make sense when there is no dine in option...“

“It is rare that I would give a 5-star review to a restaurant that scores 4 on the food. However, I'm giving VK an exception. Yes, restaurants are about the food, but also the overall experience and the value.
VK has recently emerged in San Mateo and we visited for breakfast. This is not your high-end fancy breakfast place. This is a down-to-earth every day local eatery type of vibe. Of course not commercial as IHOP or Denny's and definitely a step above. It also isn't an Instagram shot type of a place. It truly exists to serve hearty food. And that's what it does.
The atmosphere again is a standard eatery. Sort of a diner, sort of a vanilla look & feel. I had the Steak Omelet and instant I could feel that this wasn't your commercial grade quality. The chef had used great ingredients and cooked it with care. Seasoned well, it was tasty. The side veggies also were done right. The pancakes were not top grade but could absolutely stand its own. The only reason why I retracted a star away was because it just missed border of being "special". Great food. Great taste. Just a bit too vanilla. Oh, and one of my pancakes still had a bit of runny batter in the middle, but that's okay.
Service was great. Coffee was bold and good, considering they brew these in pots.
All of the above, at a price point that is surprisingly equal or just slightly above IHOP.
VK's is absolutely a solid addition to the neighborhood. It isn't a place you come for. It is a place you go because you can rely on it. It is a working class, every day type of spot. And they are not shy about it. Will absolutely return.
Parking: Plenty of parking in the plaza.“

“So many veggie options! They have a large section of vegetarian sushi, some of the best I’ve had. Very creative! Nice fusion dishes too like sushi tacos!! We ordered several veggie dishes and all of them were excellent. Casual atmosphere, friendly staff, and easy parking too.“

“My brother and I were in from out of town trying to decide between a few restaurants, and were both SUPER glad we chose Sushi Kuu. We each got Curry Ramen (pork and chicken katsu) and split a NewNew Roll. The roll was awesome, perfect balance of flavors. But the ramen absolutely stole the show. The curry broth was insanely delicious. I would consider flying across the country again to get a quart container of it. HIGHLY recommend this spot.“

“I think it must take a lot of effort to source the ingredients to be able to serve sushi of this caliber in San Francisco. It's a great honor to be a fishmonger.‼️“

“Sushi was delicious and service was great! Not a romantic spot though because it’s loud but fun if your going with family and friends. Music is good!!“

“The Omakase is always great there, my favorite from the 8 course was the anago. They always update the menu based on seasonal availability of the fish, so its very good. It’s more of an eclectic style of sushi but still enjoyable if that is your style. We also had these fried greeneyed fishes that were stellar. They were incredibly well seasoned and perfectly crispy. The wagyu-tacos are also a must get everytime I go. I got a snow crab handroll that wasn’t quite what I expected but the salmon truffle handroll is amazing. We got the green tea ice cream for dessert and they also gave us a yuzu cheesecake that was delicious. It somehow tasted like passionfruit and yuzu. I’d go back again for that cheesecake!“

“One of the best sushi/sashimi place in Bay Area. Their Ankomo is of best quality and best value. Also don’t miss out their gorgeous sashimi. Their sesame creme brûlée is also a must-order for me each time when I visit. Just off the Burlingame Ave, very convenient.“

“Cozy little Japanese restaurant with super friendly servers. The owner works at the counter. I come for Ishiyaki Hitsumamushi (Stone Bowl Seafood Rice) which I don’t think is served anywhere else. I also had tuna bone marrow for appetitzer and black sesame cheesecake for dessert. So many other dishes I want to try so will be back.“

They are always friendly I'm willing to do whatever you ask to you're liking to accommodate your sushi experience! At this spot I always get the most sushi rolls for what my money is worth!! You can order ahead of time so you can come by in and pick up your food when ready! “The food tastes great! There are a lot of options, so even if you don't like sushi there's plenty of options, like miso and udon. The staff are always patient and attentive. There are many affordable roll options, and the menu is decently priced for the area as well. Great place to go with a partner or a group of friends.“

“Kamu Sushi in South San Francisco is a cozy, small gem that really makes every visit special. Their beer and sake is top-notch and pairs beautifully with the meal. The extra spicy edamame is a fiery delight, while the seafood options like lobster and mussels are impeccably fresh. The nigiri and Spicy Spider Roll round out an unforgettable culinary experience. A must-visit for an intimate evening of great food and drink. Cheers!“

“My family visited last night around 5:30 and our chef (right most from the counter) was super nice and food was amazing. My wife and my son were very happy with it. It will be our family's favorite restaurant in Bay Area. Thanks a lot having great restaurants nearby.“
“Great omakase, dry age sushi is a unique experience in the Bay Area and I’d say in the US in general. The dry age lean blue fin tuna was an amazing experience. The sake pairing was very good as well and was enjoyable as I slowly went through my course. I got to sit counter side with the chef and had a wonderful time with my friends. Very imitate lighting in the space and an experience. My friends and I noted the music played is interesting choice but amusing for us as we were having a good time“

Service was quick for it being a busy lunch spot. Staff is super nice. Definitely check out next time in Palo Alto. I'm addicted to sushi. Cheers!“

“Absolutely love Tomokazu! Every dish is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The sashimi is top quality, and the rolls are always creative and delicious. The beef short rib and shioyaki saba were also amazing, even though I didn’t get a photo! The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and this place never disappoints. One of the best Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area! 🍣✨“

“I’m happy to support The Backhouse. I’ve ordered from them twice now, the $450 deluxe platter, and both times were excellent. You can tell the owner takes pride in her preparation, selects high quality fish, and the rice is cooked and proportioned perfectly. Most importantly, you get to enjoy delicious meal in the comforts of your own home.
Ordering through their website may seem daunting, but it’s actually pretty straight forward. They are also accommodating as I selected the wrong date and corrected with a link they provided. I didn’t have to call or speak to anyone. Their ordering website is intuitive and well designed.“

“MJ sushi is surprisingly affordable and thereby amazing for families! My surprise favorite was the TAKOYAKI. Primarily appetizers and rolls here, plus 3 rice bento selections, so you're not going to find udon or nabes. The rolls were great with fresh tasting fish, while the chicken and salmon teriyaki were very understated in flavor but add some soy sauce and you're good to go. Food arrives really fast and it's a huge restaurant so usually no wait to get a table. There were a lot of groups and families eating here, so we fit right in.“

“We stopped by Owada for a late lunch and found plenty of open seating. Service was prompt and friendly. We shared the Moro Tempura—crisp prawn tempura with assorted vegetables—and both ordered the beef udon. The broth was rich with umami from the bonito, the beef was thinly sliced and tender, and the noodles had a perfect bouncy chew. Overall, a great experience—we’d definitely recommend Owada and look forward to coming back to try more of the menu.“

“Not my usual sushi diner, but we wanted to try out a new place. This restaurant has 2 stories with a staircase.
The service was average. The serving staff couldn’t speak English. We didn’t know Spanish so we had to communicate with body language to ask for some water. The staff that actually took our orders knew English, but he was missing the first 10 minutes, counting from when we finished scanning the menu.
The food was very good. Fresh sashimi and sushi rolls. The only thing that could be improved was the plain udon. As far as I know, even Japanese plain udon contains seaweed, fish cakes and tempura crumbs. This one had none. Literally, just udon and broth, not even chopped green onions.
Vegetarian options: They have veggie dishes, look for the descriptions.
Parking: Free parking after 6pm
Kid-friendliness: Kid’s high chairs and plastic utensils
Wheelchair accessibility: I think first floor dining area is for disabilities and elders.“

“Vegetarian reviewer: I've been to this place and a few times and it's been a delight every time!
They have plenty of veggie options, along with sake and tempura. All the dishes are interesting and very flavorful, service is pretty quick as well.
I've tried the Veggie Tempura and Agedashi Tofu from the bites section. Both are delicious even though these are fairly simple dishes, as expected. Tempura is oily as expected and is something which I skipped the next time to try some of the many nicer items on the menu.
All the vegan sushis are awesome and I especially liked their Veggie Tiger Roll and spicy veggie roll. None of the ingredients, like cream cheese overpower the flavors - everything is well balanced and each ingredient stands out on its own. Yum!
It's a cute and small restaurant and they do not take reservations- only walk-ins. So I'd suggest going with some time in hand or going at an odd time. It wasn't too busy around 1:30 pm and we got a table for us pretty quickly.“

“Family run spot in San Bruno. Located on El Camino Real, it's easy to miss if you drive by.
The restaurant itself isn't too large, but there's seating for groups of all sizes. The menu is pretty extensive and has a good variety. We ended up getting a sashimi combo, one roll, and the lamb appetizer.
The sashimi itself was pretty tasty with no fishy smell. We got a good variety of sashimi, but my favorite was the salmon. The lamb was delicious as well and we're a good size.
Service is good and the staff is nice. We got our drinks refilled often without us asking.“

“From the warm greeting everyone receives when walking through the door to the attentive and super friendly service, this place is amazing! “I had pretty low expectations for a sushi place attached to a La Quinta, but this place was spectacular. The fish was fresh and prepared well, the presentation was very nice, and sitting at the sushi bar was a cool experience. Service was a little slow, but they were absolutely packed with customers. It's not hard to see why. I've paid twice as much for sushi half as good. This place was excellent.“

“So give this place five stars. I also read all of the reviews. Some reviews were negative one stated food took too long but they must have been slammed, the other reviews seemed to be mired with personal issues. One guy had a seemingly decent review about the chirashi, however I found this to be amiss. One photo showed food but it must have been chewed. It was not an accurate or good review. The rice was firm but not mushy. They had a decent amount of portions on par with pricing. So in all they had great service and great food. Some of the other reviews may have been biased by competition or lack of education.
They earned my review for an order on takeout. Well put together everything was there not any headaches or bs.
They got their five stars today. 🙏“
