“Consistent, quick and delicious. I dined in restaurant when they first opened and the service was great. Since then I regularly order take out from here either for pick up or delivery. It’s always reliably good. My favorite is the MJ Roll, and the deluxe hand roll when I’m feeling like treating myself.“

“I think it must take a lot of effort to source the ingredients to be able to serve sushi of this caliber in San Francisco. It's a great honor to be a fishmonger.‼️“

“Excellent meal here. The miso sea bass was delicious, and the nigiri in the seasonal omakase was great. Wagyu nigiri was a standout. Our waitress/server was fantastic also! one of the best sushi/omakases in san mateo in my opinion! pricing is absolutely reasonable too.“

“Sushi was delicious and service was great! Not a romantic spot though because it’s loud but fun if your going with family and friends. Music is good!!“

“The best sushi place in SF…I am a sushi lover. The fish there are so fresh and the Uni are premium. From the sashimi to the Kobe beef, everything is top. Their pricing is also very reasonable. Eric and Phoebe are very nice and provide excellent service.“

“We love going here - it's sort of tucked away giving it a hidden gem feeling. The staff is warm, friendly and attentive. Sashimi is delicious and wonderfully presented. It was pricier than we expected but one wonderful thing they did for us was deep fry some of the decorations on the premium sashimi plate (the shrimp heads and the mackerel bones) - it was delicious and a nice, fun finish to the meal.“

“Easily the best sushi in the area. The fish selection is seasonal. The preparation is thoughtful and appealing.
The restaurant is tiny and seats 12 patrons. The decorations are a little kitschy but the food is worth it. This is one of the few sushi restaurants I keep coming back to.“

“Daigo’s food is absolutely delicious. The ji kimedai was outstanding, and the Homemade ice cream dessert (MUST TRY!!) at the end was the perfect finish. It’s easily one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve had in the Bay Area in this price range.“

“Amazing sushi! Easily one of the best we’ve had in a while — everything was so fresh and flavorful. I love the idea of half rolls; it’s such a great way to try more kinds of sushi. The staff were super attentive and efficient. We’ll definitely be coming back!“

“Cozy little Japanese restaurant with super friendly servers. The owner works at the counter. I come for Ishiyaki Hitsumamushi (Stone Bowl Seafood Rice) which I don’t think is served anywhere else. I also had tuna bone marrow for appetitzer and black sesame cheesecake for dessert. So many other dishes I want to try so will be back.“

“Absolutely love Tomokazu! Every dish is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The sashimi is top quality, and the rolls are always creative and delicious. The beef short rib and shioyaki saba were also amazing, even though I didn’t get a photo! The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and this place never disappoints. One of the best Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area! 🍣✨“

“Great staff my friends often come here to get food and the workers are really kind and always greet them. It gives the sense of community and they genuinely love doing their jobs. I recently went for the first time and ordered their teriyaki chicken bowl. It’s really affordable and it taste good and there’s a lot of protein in it. Fast service, friendly staff.“
“Great omakase, dry age sushi is a unique experience in the Bay Area and I’d say in the US in general. The dry age lean blue fin tuna was an amazing experience. The sake pairing was very good as well and was enjoyable as I slowly went through my course. I got to sit counter side with the chef and had a wonderful time with my friends. Very imitate lighting in the space and an experience. My friends and I noted the music played is interesting choice but amusing for us as we were having a good time“

“Kamu Sushi in South San Francisco is a cozy, small gem that really makes every visit special. Their beer and sake is top-notch and pairs beautifully with the meal. The extra spicy edamame is a fiery delight, while the seafood options like lobster and mussels are impeccably fresh. The nigiri and Spicy Spider Roll round out an unforgettable culinary experience. A must-visit for an intimate evening of great food and drink. Cheers!“

“Great sushi place! The fish was very fresh and every dish was well prepared. Good sized servings too. There was a bit of a wait on Friday night string 7pm but no more than 20 minutes as the service is quite and the tables turn over pretty quickly. Will definitely come back.“

“One of my top 10 restaurants. Love the interior decorating, and of course the food is incredible and creative. It's created and delivered with the upmost of care.
I like the concept of pay-what-you-want, we got the middle tier-ish and had a lot of really unique and fresh food. Dishes include uni from Hokkaido and Santa Barbara, triggerfish, scallops, band many others.
Almost everything about this restaurant was perfect. My only change would be the music, it was fun but didn't seem to match the mood. Not a deal breaker though.“

“I’m happy to support The Backhouse. I’ve ordered from them twice now, the $450 deluxe platter, and both times were excellent. You can tell the owner takes pride in her preparation, selects high quality fish, and the rice is cooked and proportioned perfectly. Most importantly, you get to enjoy delicious meal in the comforts of your own home.
Ordering through their website may seem daunting, but it’s actually pretty straight forward. They are also accommodating as I selected the wrong date and corrected with a link they provided. I didn’t have to call or speak to anyone. Their ordering website is intuitive and well designed.“

“We stopped by Owada for a late lunch and found plenty of open seating. Service was prompt and friendly. We shared the Moro Tempura—crisp prawn tempura with assorted vegetables—and both ordered the beef udon. The broth was rich with umami from the bonito, the beef was thinly sliced and tender, and the noodles had a perfect bouncy chew. Overall, a great experience—we’d definitely recommend Owada and look forward to coming back to try more of the menu.“

“No parking. No place to eat. Sushi isn't meant to be delivered in my opinion. You have to order online. Their QRcode on the door is outdated and doesn't actually take your order. Price doesn't really make sense when there is no dine in option...“

“From the warm greeting everyone receives when walking through the door to the attentive and super friendly service, this place is amazing! The sushi was outstanding… hands down the best sushi I’ve ever had! The texture, taste and presentation was top notch. Wish there was a location on the east coast!“

“Great time! We went in about 45 mins before close on a Friday night and there was no wait. There are mostly fancy rolls here, not so much the staples/simple stuff, but we especially loved the Veggie Tiger. And their salmon was delicious. Air was a bit chilly but the service and food was great. We'll be returning!“

“This place is a hidden gem! The rolls are HUGE! They use real crab inside their rolls and the fish is SO GOOD! I wish this place was closer to where I live, I'd go every day! The prices are extremely reasonable, even cheaper than the average. How this place only has 4 stars is beyond me. This place deserves 5 stars easily! We had the tempura chicken bento box, rainbow roll, Spicey tuna roll, Lion King roll, 2pc sashimi salmon & 2pc yellow tail. Everything was AMAZING QUALITY!“

“Unexpectedly good. Excellent nigiri. Hand rolls just right. Balance of fish and flavor. They have the basics and I’d love to see them venture to other kinds of fish like mackerel and sardine. If I lived locally I’d come here again and again. Nice Japanese music. Easy atmosphere. Enjoyable for a long meal.“

“Family run spot in San Bruno. Located on El Camino Real, it's easy to miss if you drive by.
The restaurant itself isn't too large, but there's seating for groups of all sizes. The menu is pretty extensive and has a good variety. We ended up getting a sashimi combo, one roll, and the lamb appetizer.
The sashimi itself was pretty tasty with no fishy smell. We got a good variety of sashimi, but my favorite was the salmon. The lamb was delicious as well and we're a good size.
Service is good and the staff is nice. We got our drinks refilled often without us asking.“

“Definitely a hidden gem! Got salmon nigiri and Curry Katsu. The salmon slice was thick, we were pleasantly surprised by the amount and quality. Katsu had a nice subtle crisp to it even covered in curry. Beef yaki udon was really really good, Highly recommend and worth it. We will be back :)“
